33rd Annual Razzie Awards

The 33rd annual Razzie Nominations have been announced. In case you've been living under a rock, the parodic award ceremony (dis)honors the worst films each year, usually just a few days before the Academy Award nominations are announced. This year is no different and "Twilight" fans will be receiving a little painful raspberry in the eye. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II" has been nominated in every single categories. The Bill Condon-directed film even managed the feat of 11 nominations in only 10 categories, including Worst Picture, Director, Lead Actress, Lead Male and, well,... every other category.

Trailing not far behind are Adam Sandler's "That's My Boy" with 8 nominations and "Battleship" with 7 nominations. They should just change the name of this to the "Celebrities We Hate" Award.

That's what i'd vote for ... based on movies I have seen ( didn't watch any of the Twilight movies btw ).

Worst actor : Nicolas Cage in Ghostrider 2 was a close 2nd ... but the movie got so many problems and Nic isn't the worst of them whereas That's My Boy could have been a better movie but Adam Sandler is clearly phoning it in.

Worst supporting actor : While Piranha 3DD and That's my Boy are terrible movies , i think the Hoff and Vanilla Ice were redeeming cameo appearances. Nick Swardson gets on my nerve even worst than in Just Go With It.

Worst screen ensemble : Battleship easy. Liam is on-screen for 5 minutes but gets top-billing , Rihanna says like 42 words in the whole movie ( most of them being WOAH! , FIRE ! & FUCK YEAH ! ) and the rest was more awful to comment on it. WTF was Peter MacNicol doing in this movie ? I like this guy but not in this movie.

Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel: Piranha 3DD .... it's not only that the movie was terribad but it's the fact that it's only like 70 minutes long padded with a 10 minutes gag reel. Sorry , the joke is not on me. Anything not featuring the Hoff was bad , the Hoff does know how to wear shame with pride !

Indeed. They are celebrating obvious and famous mediocrity, not the worst of the year.

Breaking Dawn Part 2 was kind of decent.

The thing that bugs me about the Razzies is that they never take risks with their nominations like they used to. Although most people would balk at the thought of these decisions today, back in the 80's the Razzie committee made some pretty bold choices, particularly by nominating both Stanley Kubrick for The Shining and Brian De Palma for Scarface for Worst Director in their respective years. Again, the majority of people on this forum would find either of those nominations absurd, but at least contrarian decisions like those got people talking.

Nowadays they just go for the easy targets. Was it really necessary to nominate Twilight again? By now, I think they've clearly made their point that they hate the series. And even though I'm not a fan of the series either, I sometimes feel like it's become a punching bag for people who seem far too desperate to be seen as sophisticated, to the point that it's really just the cinematic equivalent of bullying now.

And The Oogieloves? Really? Didn't that movie get punished enough by being the biggest box office bomb in history? Nominating here is just kicking it while it's down.

I'd also recommend that they retire Nicolas Cage as a Razzie nominee. Again, WE GET IT. You don't like him. Save his perennial spot for someone who hasn't been beaten to death with criticism yet.

If they really wanted to make a somewhat controversial decision that could have sparked some sort of debate, they would have nominated, say, Prometheus for something. Worst Director, perhaps. I'm not saying I'd agree with it, but it's something they should have considered. Or better yet, how about The Dark Knight Rises for Worst Remake/Rip-Off/Sequel? I mean, if you're an organization devoted to criticizing movies, at least tip some sacred cows. Don't just go for the things that more or less everyone agrees on, because then you're just being bullies.

Adam Sandler is the Meryl Streep of the Razzies. They just fucking love him to death, and That's My Boy wasn't even the worst reviewed movie of the year, unlike some of his previous films.

The razzies stopped being relevant years ago. Now they are a joke.

Breaking Dawn Part 2 is far from the worst film of the year. They just voted for it because it's Twilight, and it's in to hate on Twilight.

Yet, take away the red carpet fashion and the star gawking and NO ONE would watch the Oscars either. The Razzies as an award are about as relevant as the Oscars when you think about it. It's sad how far the Oscars have fallen.

Argo will get a rental bump to be sure but not much else matters.

I love the Oscars. Always have, always will.

The razzies are a different story.

I've thought about it.

Still don't see your point.
