Dennis Miller's Rant Series.

Has anybody else read any of Dennis Miller's three Rant books?

Brilliant. Scathing. Funny. Dead on, most of them.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

I've read a few rants from his first two books, America The Touchy is by far my favorite one.

Greb, you have impeccable taste here. Dennis Miller is one of the best stand up comedians around, and his rant series of books is A-One. I have The Rant Zone and I can never get enough. He's smart, funny and abrasive. He spouts his opinion and he realizes not everyone is going to agree, but that's the point at times...

At least that's just my opinion, I could be wrong

Good call, Greb!

I have two of them. He's brilliant, I actually laughed out loud reading them. A very smart, witty and hilarious read.

I own all three, and actually re-read them often.

90% of the time, he says what I wish I could articulate.

More people should read them. Especially the kind of people he rants about.

Dennis Miller is also one of my favorite comedians. While some of his jokes are a tad obscure (his metaphors aren't always easy-to-understand), the topics he criticizes about are very dead-on. The man has a strong opinion and he uses his great jokes to sugarcoat them. Great, great books.

Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

One of the things I like about Miller is that he refuses to dumb down his material for an audience.

I actually thought he was quite good on MNF, but the beer swilling morons who watch couldn't make heads nor tails of a "Tigris and Euphrates" reference.

So now we're stuck with that bloated tub of shit, John Madden.

Ugh.

I remember the simpsons referencing this, saying 1 in 1,000,000 people understand something, and they call it the "Dennis Miller ratio".

I usually agree with him, and even when I don't he's usually hilarious - he does a better job of recovering from screwups then anyone else. The one rant of his that did really bug me was about global warming - he basically says it won't effect him in his life, so who gives a shit?

I might pick up that book one of these days, but I'm not sure if it will carry the same weight without his brilliant delivery behind it.

BTW, one thing vaguely related...

There was an episode of Dennis Miller Live that was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen on TV.

He's talking about how this 45 year old guy was being arrested for having sex with his 14 (or 12? I don't remember) niece. He doesn't quite get to the punchline (which was weak) and then this guy in the back of the audience goes "YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!" really loud. It was just so out there and bizzare no one (myself included) could stop laughing for like two minutes... The guy did that one other time, and Miller said something like "Wow, never been saved so many times by the same asshole". I want a copy of that whole episode...

I own and have read Miller's "Ranting Again" a couple times now. Hilarious man, indeed. I miss his show, but at least I have a couple HBO specials taped and ready to watch anytime.
