Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation - 3/10
Who the hell thought up the idea to make Leatherface dress up in drag??? For me it just so totally ruined any type of fear or respect I had for the character. |

Training Day - 7/10 ...Denzel impresses and it's gritty as hell

Being Halloween it's only fitting there be horror movies on the menu...
What Lies Beneath Intriguing, suspenseful thriller moves along a little slow sometimes but offers good tension, an against type Harrison Ford and the always solid and beautiful Michelle Pfeiffer. 8/10 Ghosts Of Mars Silly, but entertaining horror/action has good gore, Natasha Henstridge looking fine, Jason Statham charming it up and a good atmosphere. The script is a little weak, and it isn't about ghosts exactly, but you could do worse. 6/10 A Nightmare On Elm St. Part 2 Pretty bad...that's all i'm saying. Okay gore, but blah. 2/10 I also checked out True Romance You can't go wrong with a QT script, lotsa violence, Christian Slater, an insanely cute Partricia Arquette, Christopher Walken and Gary Oldman doing what the do best in extended cameos, a stoned out Brad Pitt, and sex, drugs and laughs on the side. Where was Val Kilmer in this though? 9/10 |

On a **** scale:
THE NIGHTMARE ROOM: CAMP NOWHERE - no grade Can't really grade it, since it's just a collection of four episodes from the short-lived TV series based upon the R.L. Stine books. Your basic pre-teen "safe" horror, with some interesting twists but an overall production quality that causes one to yearn for the good ol' days of the "Goosebumps" show. DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME: THE STEVE-O VIDEO - VOL. 2: THE TOUR - no grade Keeping in with the horror theme, I subjected myself to another hour's worth of Steve-O smoking his own pubic hair, setting fire to a woman's breasts, and watching a guy dip his jewels in rum and setting them on fire. The best and the brightest, I tell ya. THE AMERICAN NIGHTMARE - *** This time, I watched an actual movie, a pretty fascinating documentary about horror filmmakers of the '60s and '70s and how the events of the time helped shape their films. The subjects include George A. Romero, Tobe Hooper, Wes Craven, John Carpenter, and David Cronenberg, all of whom share intelligent commentary on the underlying themes of their films and what they mean to them. It's pretty talky and leaves some tie-in's loose (the doc was pretty unclear on what relevance HALLOWEEN had, though it did talk about being "puritanical" and such), but it's a solid piece that comments on an intriguing genre. |

Sleepy Hollow - My favorite Tim Burton movie. Based on one of my favorite horror stories, this bad boy has amazing cinematography, top notch directing, a solid script, great set and costume design, some great beheadings, and a fantastic performance from my favorite actor/chameleon Johnny Depp. This is the perfect flick to bust out on Halloween. Loved it the first time, and I still do.

Rob Schmidt's WRONG TURN 6/10
Entertaining - with a few cool parts - but forgettable horrorflick. Hardly deserves some of the praise that I've seen it been getting when you consider that the acting blows and the cannibals are hardly that great looking (look more like secondhand Uruk-Hai's). |

Whale Rider: 7/10. A little too predictable/ slow/ frustrating/ depressing for my taste, but in spite of all that, it was a decent movie. The lead actress put in a very good performance.

Soles (Lynda), Charles Cyphers (Sheriff Brackett), Brian Andrews (Tommy Doyle) Haven't seen it in a while, but I watch it every Halloween. Adam J. locked me away in his basement and fed me with fishbones while I had to watch every Roger Corman flicks and the BEETHOVEN movies endless times. 'Twas quite a torture, my friend. I finally managed to escape when he loosened my ties for a sec to manicure my fingernails.
Uh... movie-related, you say? Well... Thirteen pretty much sucked. At least I didn't have to pay for the tickets ![]() |
