Lucky Louie
Anyone else watching this? It's a 'sitcom' on HBO, with just a few differences from what we normally see on regular sitcoms. The sets are deliberately stripped down and cheesy looking, it's shot on videotape instead of film and all the laughs are organic meaning there are no touch ups or laugh tracks put in at all. In fact, with most sitcoms the audience is 'barricaded' from the sets, put in their own separate track to not mess up the mics of the actors when they say their lines but Lucky Louie doesn't do any of that.
It's just a way for Louis CK (the comedian who stars, writes and produces the show) to preserve the feeling from the older sitcoms. The show is also more adult in its content since it is HBO after all, but they just use it to show how the way that actual families are. It'll have the typical sitcom plots, jokes, etc. but hopefully with a little more realism to it in the content. HBO claims that it's the 'death of the sitcom' but it's not, so don't go watching the show believing that. It's actually a pretty funny sitcom that aimed towards adults instead of families. The major reaction to the show is split, the main complaint being that it's just nothing more than being vulgar, but there is a lot of great stuff. At least I'll appreciate the show for attempting to try out something different with the boring sitcom format we've been having for years. I hope that the show does last though, most sitcoms have a rocky start and this one is too but it has a ton of potential to become great. |

I support anything with Jim Norton, and this is no different. The Sets maybe cheesy, but the actors themselves offers up the most cheddar... Especially CK who looks uncomfortable during applause and laughter breaks. Surely worth checking out though as a fine "middle man," between Entourage and Tourgasm (Bobby Kelly shines).

The pilot episode's jokes all came from some of Louis CK old material...i cant wait for him to actually start writing. He really is one of the funniest comedians working today.

Dane Cook is aparently coming out with a sitcom on HBO too called 'Cooked'. HBO pretty much owns Dane, Tourgasm, and HBO stand-up special (which was shot in boston and I was actually there), and this Cooked deal.

i liked the first two episodes, altho yes a little vulgar, it was still funny, and i dont get how these sets are 'stripped down' they just remind me of sitcoms from the early 80s like home improvement, roseanne, cosby etc....just feels more real.
ill keep watching |

I caught half an episode of this and it was definitely funny. I will have to check out future episodes. A sitcom that says the "f" word...brillant!
