Our Favorite SMALLVILLE Episodes

This is dedicated to all the Schmoes who can't get enough of Smallville or only have watched a few epsiodes, enjoying what they've seen. I'll start off with an episode and feel free to comment on it if you'd like. Feel free to talk about the episodes that left an impression on you as well. Fittingly, I'll start us off with the one that started it all...

PILOT
Original Airdate: October 16, 2001
Directed by David Nutter

In October of 1989, Smallville, Kansas was hit with a devastating meteor shower. The humble farm couple, Jonathan and Martha Kent, discover little Kal-El from Krypton after his ship crashes in a nearby field. During the chaos, Lana Lang see her parents die when a metoer crashes on them and Lex Luthor loses his bright red hair as a result of another metoer hit. Fast foward 12 years to 2001 and we see a young Clark Kent, freshman at Smallville High. We're introduced to Clark's friends Pete Ross (from the comics) and Chloe Sullivan as well as his infatuation with Lana Lang, head cheerleader. Clark can't get near Lana without feeling ill, perhaps it has something to do with a green necklace she wears. Destiny meets for the first time as Lex accidentally hits Clark with his Porche as they plummet to a river below where Clark rescues an unconscious Lex from a watery death. Jonathan decides to tell Clark how he really came into his adopted parents lives:
"I suppose you stahsed my spaceship in the attic."
"Actually, it's in the storm celler."

How it all began

"We didn't find him. He found us." Martha Kent

Clark can't believe he didn't die when Lex's car smashed into him on the bridge.

What we only saw for 20+ minutes in Richard Donner's classic, Miles Millar & Alfred Gough have expanded Superman's beginnings to an extent we have never seen before. PILOT starts off Smallville perfectly ...

Discuss this episode if you like and please post about your favorite episodes as well...

Red
Original Airdate: October 15, 2002 (Season 2)
Directed by Jeff Woolnough

Mild mannered farmboy Clark Kent is exposed to red Kryptonite. This particular piece of meteor makes Clark lose all of his inhibitions. Now, he's a smartass, wild, and horny for the babes: you know, your typical average American teenager. Clark meets Jessie, a new student at Smallville High, who is trying to run from her past. Seems this bad girl and her father have escaped to Smallville and try to get some bad guys off their trail. Clark also meets Lionel Luthor for the first time. Clark uses his powers in front of a blinded Lionel, which is the beginning of Lionel's obessesion with the mystery that is Clark Kent. Other highlights include Clark using his x-ray vision to scope out the good stuff on Lana and Chloe (Allison Mack is just amazingly wonderful and probably my favorite part of the entire series) and Clark dressed in leather and riding a motorcycle. Clark gets Lana to finally go on a date with him but he decides a dance with Jessie would be more fun. All is back to normal once Jonathan and Pete trick Clark and destroy the red Kryptonite class ring that had turned him to the dark side...

Hrm, I have recently started to watch the show. I caught all of last season and I have been watching reruns on other channels.

So far my fav episode is the one with the death of Johnathan Kent.

I did enjoy the episode where Clark movies to Metropolis while influenced by red kryptonite and becomes a thief. Rutger Hauer was in it so that is always a plus.

Those two stick out but the death of Johnathan Kent has been the best so far.

It was the most emotional and amazing episodes of the show.No one saw Mr.Kent leaving forever.I tear up everytime I hear the song "I Grieve" by Peter Gabriel because of the final scene of the episode, where Clark drops the dirt on his dad's grave. It's a powerful moment and arguably the most powerful moment in the series.

Seconded, but add this episode:

EPISODE 101: VENGEANCE

Still recovering from Jonathan Kent's untimely death, the family begins to pick up the pieces and move forward. Martha and Clark clean out older items of Jonathan's and Clark regrets giving up his watch. Lionel Luthor proposes that Martha take the senate position won by her husband. Martha heads into a slum in Metropolis to find some of Jonathans belongings and is attacked for her troubles. The watch is lost, but a mystery character saves Martha from the two bad guys.

In an attempt to regain the watch, Clark encounters this vigilante with seemingly the same powers as him. She almost convinces him to join her in her somewhat insane quest to punish bad guys everywhere. Clark declines, although a couple of bad guys still get a super ass kicking as he tries to deal with his anger.

Yet somehow, Clark manages to corral his temper and let his conscience lead him to do the right thing. He even saves Lionel from certain death at the hands of the vigilante. Best of all, the watch turns up again. In the end, he takes the watch home to his mother, who is watching home movies of Jonathan and Clark as young lad. Martha cautions him to be careful while riding a tractor around, but Jonathan says "He'll be fine...our son is going to be a man of steel," with the typical father's pride. As the two watch the film, Clark hands her the watch and falls to pieces. Martha holds him as he sobs uncontrollably, with his father waving into the camera in the background.

Pardon me while I go find a Kleenex now...

For those of you who don't know, the WB will be replaying Episode #100 RECKONING tonight (July 13th).

I told jeo4 that I have not seen Episode #101 yet and will post my thoughts next week if the WB replays the episode. They have been replaying Season 5 in order, but not every episode...so we'll see.

Also, KryptonSite has broke the news concerning the upcoming 6th Season:

Aaron Ashmore Joins The Cast Of Smallville
TV Guide's Michael Ausiello has revealed that Aaron Ashmore, possibly best known for playing "Troy Vandegraff" on Veronica Mars, will be joining the cast of Smallville in a very important new role - so important that, at least for now, we're not posting it on this main page because it's a big SPOILER!

Spoilers about 6th Season courtesy of KryptonSite: Go to News and it will be one of the first stories

Aaron's twin brother Shawn appeared on Smallville in Season One as Eric Summers in the episode "Leech." Interestingly, Shawn was at one time seriously rumored to be playing this very same role in Superman Returns.

Yes, I'll join everyone else in saying that this is easily one of the best shows in the entire series.

I did not see this coming at all

What a difference...

one Kryptonian crystal can make.

As usual, this episode delivers some truly memorable lines of dialogue. A few of my favorites:

"I guess it's just hard looking over at your son, and realizing you're talking to a man. A man who doesn't need his father's advice anymore." Jonathan
"I'm always gonna need you, dad." Clark

"I would be so lucky to end up with someone as honarable as Clark someday." Lois

"Alright, McFly. Do you wanna start with how or why?" Chloe

But my favorite line of the night is from Ms. Sullivan, who seems to always get THE best lines on the show, and one of the many reasons I love the character so much:
"Right. What did you do, spin the Earth backwards on its axis?"
That's a Hall of Fame quote, right there ladies and gentlemen.

The most emotional five minutes in the entire series:

P.S.

"I need a break." Lana
"From me?" Clark
"No. From us." Lana

Did anyone else besides me think of:

We were on a breeeeak!"

Sorry. Love me some FRIENDS too.

Edit: For those of you you didn't watch the show, Ross cheated on Rachel with a girl by the name of Chloe.

It is a small world, after all.

jeo4's description of the episode of few posts above really hit it home. I enjoyed this episode a lot and the last 3 minutes was really, really special. Here's some of my favorite dialogue:

"When he died, I really didn't know if I could keep the secret by myself. It's good to know you're here. Thank you." Martha
"He's gonna be OK. We won't let anything happen to him." Chloe

"You always change in a phone booth?" Clark
"The janitor was in the bathroom." Andrea

"I think Metroplis could really use someone like her right now. Do you think you could ever do what she did? Play the mild mannered reporter by day, and a crimefighter by night?" Chloe
"Honestly? I'm kinda hoping I can find a way to not have to hide who I really am." Clark

(Clark comes into the living room as Martha is watching old family movies on the TV)
"This young man is a man of steel. Look at him!
Clark, wave by to mommy, son.
(John Schneider looks right at the camera, smiling with that good ol' boy grin)
Bye bye." Jonathan Kent

Perfect ending. Jonathan was able to say goodbye to Martha and Clark.

My favorite Lex Luthor episode

Onyx
Original Aidate: April 13, 2005 (Season 4)
Directed by Terrence O'Hara

At LuthorCorp, Lex is working with Dr. Sinclair on a piece of green kryptonite. They initiate a thermal sequence to tap into its radiation and expose it to seeds. But the experiment goes awry and as the kryptonite blackens, it cracks and explodes. The blast devastates the lab and as Lex takes Sinclair to the hospital . . . another Lex crawls from the wreckage.

Clark and Chloe meet with Lex at the hospital and he offers to take Clark and show him the experiment. In Dr. Sinclair's room, Lex visits Sinclair and wants to know if the doctor saw anything . . . like him splitting in two. When Sinclair says he might have a way to reverse the process, "Lex" (henceforth referred to as Alexander) kills him with an air bubble to the intravenous. Chloe sees Alexander come out as the doctors rush to Sinclair's aid. At the lab, Lex reveals anything grown from the seeds turns rotten and Clark weakens from the nearby kryptonite. Alexander, secretly in the lab, sees the weakened Clark. At the manor, Lex meets Lionel and promises to show up at Lionel's charity benefit . . . in return for it being held at LuthorCorp Plaza in Metropolis. After Lionel leaves, Alexander shows up and knocks out Lex, putting him in the wine cellar.

It soon becomes clear that Alexander embodies Lex's evil impulses and that he won't kill Lex until he knows how that might affect him. Alexander puts an iron mask on Lex and leaves him there. Clark and Chloe compare notes and are puzzled by the fact they were both with Lex. While Chloe checks the hospital security tapes, Lana comes back to her apartment to find Alexander waiting for her after she called him to talk about Jason. Alexander starts putting the moves on her and Lana slaps him and tells him to get out. He does so . . . after saying he'll close the Talon. Later Lionel confronts Alexander when he cancels the fundraiser and Alexander agrees to let him have the fundraiser . . . if he sword-duels with him. He taunts Lionel into knocking him down and holding him at swordpoint, but his father can't bring himself to hurt him so Alexander scars him across the cheek.

Lana is at Clark's barn and briefs him on Alexander's activities, and Chloe confirms via the security tape that there are two Lexs. Clark goes to confront Alexander, who can answer his questions about the previous evening since he was secretly in the lab. Clark tells Alexander everything and Chloe and Clark meet him at the lab. He leaves them there and Clark finds a piece of the altered black kryptonite that hurts him, and a locker with an unconscious Lex in a security uniform. Alexander drops a girder on them, knocking Chloe out, but Clark breaks free, much toAlexander's surprise as he makes his escape.

Back at the Kent farm, Clark and Chloe have a moment and then Chloe goes to stay with Lois for her own protection. After warning Lana, Clark goes out to the barn where Alexander confronts him and offers him a place at his side. Clark refuses and he exposes Clark to a piece of green kryptonite mounted on a ring. Alexander pulls a gun on Martha and Jonathan as they rush in and shoots Jonathan to convince Clark to join with him.

After taking Jonathan to the hospital, Clark searches the manor and finds and frees Lex, but Alexander shows up with the kryptonite. As he prepares to kill Clark, Lex interrupts him and Clark uses his heat vision on the ring, turning it to black kryptonite and merging the two back together. Clark and Lex have a moment later and Lex admits he doesn't remember anything of his duplicate's experiences. Lex apologies to Lana and then meets with Lionel, who admits that Lex has shown him the "error of his ways" and he's closing down the foundation – it's their true nature as Luthors. *

"Hello, me.

Meet the real you."

"What do you want?"

"The world, Mrs. Kent!"

"You were right about me all along, Mr. Kent....

...

...I am the villian of the story." **

I did. Hellooooo - it's part of the Superman universe; he had to go sometime. I do like how John Schneider made a few cameos in later episodes (as Jonathan Kent or otherwise ) though. Still a great episode though.

One of my fave episodes is when Clark takes on the three prison escapees without his powers. Thought that was pretty cool.

Really? Overall, I'd say that the 4th Season is my favorite. We're introduced to Lois, we get a glimpse of the future evil Lex and Chloe dicovers Clark's secret. Not only that, but she goes out of his way to protect him, without him knowing that she knows. Ya know? The weak length of the Season were the 3 crystals, that were only shown for a few episodes but when the 3 became 1 at the Season finale, well...it fucking ruled. Jason Teague was also a weak point for the Season, but it could have been so much worse: Jensen Ackles was the runner-up to Tom Welling as Clark Kent when the show was originally cast.

One of my favorite Chloe Sullivan episodes

Blank
Original Airdate: April 27, 2005 (Season 4)
Directed by: Jeannot Szwarc

Lois is taking orders at the Talon when a boy, Kevin Grady, comes in and takes money from the wallet. He points at Lois when she confronts him and wipes her memory so she forgets what she saw. Clark and Chloe come in as Lois notices the missing money and Clark spots Kevin going out the back. Clark blocks him as he drives away but Kevin uses his powers. Chloe comes out to discover that Clark has no memory of who he is.

Chloe brings Clark back to the Kent farm but when he goes in he yanks the doors off its hinges, although Chloe of course isn't surprised, given her knowledge of Clark's powers. Chloe is forced to cover when Lois shows up and Clark's parents are in Metropolis for Jonathan's heart exam. Lana is greeted by Jason who lets her know she got an acceptance to Central College U but she's not sure if she's going. She's also unsure about their relationship given their secrets. Jason gets angry and asks her not to give up on him, and warns her that she's been protecting him.

Outside Chloe works with Clark to relearn his powers and explains the meteor shower and how it gives people super-powers. She also reveals that he didn't tell her but that she would never betray him. Back at the Torch, Chloe and Clark try to figure out the crime and Clark spots Kevin's day pass. He's tempted to reveal his powers but Chloe counsels him not to, but then he spots Lana and is instantly attracted to her . . . as his heat vision goes off.

Back at the barn, Clark goes through his personal life, including his private sketches from the cave, as Lois shows up and tells him to with his instincts. The next day, Clark goes to school and "introduces" himself to Lana, who knows about his amnesia but is taken aback by Clark's unabashed adoration for her and his invitation of a date. At home, Kevin's dad confronts him and Lois is taking orders at the Talon when a boy, Kevin Grady, comes in and takes money from the wallet. He points at Lois when she confronts him and wipes her memory so she forgets what she saw. Clark and Chloe come in as Lois notices the missing money and Clark spots Kevin going out the back. The next day, Clark goes to school and "introduces" himself to Lana, who knows about his amnesia but is taken aback by Clark's unabashed adoration for her and his invitation of a date. At home, Kevin's dad confronts him and tells him he has to go back somewhere for treatment but Kevin's afraid it turned him into a freak. Kevin then wipes his dad's memories and leaves, and Clark, Chloe, and Lois arrive shortly thereafter. Chloe figures out Kevin was at the Summerholt Institute – Mr. Grady reveals Kevin accidentally shot his brother Dylan and they turned to Summerholt to erase his memories. Clark hears Kevin fleeing on motorcycle and Chloe persuades him to catch him at superspeed. Inexperienced, Clark overruns and loses him.

Chloe and Clark go to Luthor Manor to ask Lex to use his contacts at Summerholt to find out more about the memory experiments (like those Lex underwent in "Memoria"). Lex asks for a moment alone with Clark and then tries to jog his memory by taking him to the caves. Clark recognizes the drawings from his pictures in the loft and Lex leads him on into revealing there's a secret room in the cave. Clark begins to suspect something and leaves him hanging.

Chloe breaks into Summerholt and searches a lab for information. She grabs a computer and sends a video file to Lois at the Torch, although she's grabbed seconds later. Clark meets with Lois and they see Kevin being given memories of killing his brother. Clark superspeeds off to the clearing where the "accident occurred and where he believes Kevin is. They meet and Kevin is puzzled by the fact his powers wiped Clark's entire life. But under Clark's prodding he remembers that it was his father who killed Dylan. Kevin says they need to break into Summerholt to get Clark's memories back.

Lois brings Sheriff Adams along to Summerholt and the latter bulls their way past the receptionist. Clark and Kevin break in with Clark secretly using his powers but there's kryptonite stored around and weakens. Kevin goes ahead while Mr. Grady prepares to wipe Chloe's memories as far back as he can. Kevin interrupts his father but is knocked ouit. Clark manages to knock over the shelf with the kryptonite and get to the lab and block the beam, which help shim recover his memories. Two electrical towers fall toward Chloe and Clark grabs them as Lois and Sheriff Adams look on, but Kevin wakes up and wipes their memories to protect his new friend. He also uses his powers on Chloe.

Clark doesn't seem to remember what happened while he had amnesia but his gut says to let Kevin go with a clean slate. Later Lex is at the Kent farm but doesn't say anything about what Clark said. Back at the manor, Lex reveals he grabbed the drawings from Clark's loft while Lana shows up for their date which Clark doesn't remember. She turns to go but Clark refuses to let her go this time and promises "this time" will be different. Does this mean that Clark will tell Lana about his powers, as he did in the comics?

Clark meets Chloe at the Torch and of course doesn't remember what she knows of his secret, but it becomes clear she still remembers what happened. *

"Who is that?"

...

"That is Lana Lang. The love of your life."

"You had a clean slate to start all over with. And you made all the same choices, except for one.""

"Chloe, I need you to be completely honest with me. What did I do?"

"You trusted me."

Among the top of my favorite episodes

Rosetta
Original Airdate: February 23, 2003 (Season 2)
Directed by: James Marshall

Clark has dreams of flying in the Indian cave ("Skinwalker") and inserting the octagonal key into a hole. As Dr. Walden ("Rush") tries to get a sample, the key summons Clark to the cave and places itself in the hole, activating lights and a beam that hits Clark. Later Clark's heat-vision activates on its own, burning a symbol into the barn – a symbol which Clark can translate (as "hope"). A Dr. Swann sees the photo of the barn that Chloe takes and contacts Clark using symbols from the mysterious language. Clark goes to visit him and finds out Swann received a signal on the day of the meteor shower using the same language with a mathematical key. The signal identifies Clark as "Kal-El" from the planet "Krypton" and Swann says Clark must find his destiny. Clark and his adopted parents open the ship with the key and insert the pad Jonathan found and Clark translates it as a message from his father telling him to rule over Earth.

Meanwhile, Walden finds the key left behind by Clark but gets mind-fried when he tries to use it in the cave due to an "information overload", leaving Lex with a few more suspicions. And Lana and Chloe have a fight when Lana snoops on Chloe's computer and finds pictures of Chloe and Clark – Lana starts to move out but they patch things up. *

Classic

"Hello, Clark. I've been expecting you."

"This is Kal-El from Kypton. Our infant son, our last hope. Please protect him and deliver him from evil."

"You must write your own destiny, Kal-El."

"On this third planet from this star...

...Sol, you will be a god among men.

They are a flawed race, rule them with strength. That is where your greatness lies."

Memoria
Original Airdate: April 28, 2004 (Season 3)
Directed by: Miles Millar

In flashback, we see a young Lex at the Excelsior Academy - Lionel comes to visit Lex who is out on a ledge claiming to be protecting his brother Julian. Lex is singing to a bundle and goes out on the edge – the bundle goes flying as Lex wakes up from where he is standing on a ledge as Lana pulls him back. When she goes to tell Clark he explains about Julian and goes to talk to Lex. Lex dismisses Clark's concerns and goes to visit Dr. Garner of the Sommerholt Institute and Clark secretly follows. Garner uses an experimental treatment to awaken Lex's lost memories and we see Lex's unattended 12th birthday party, where Lionel gave him the lead box he later gave to Clark.

Clark confronts Lex – when that doesn't work he goes to Lionel who doesn't seem concerned about Lex's missing memories and accuses Clark of not wanting Lex to regain his memories either (showing him the asylum tape). Lionel then goes to Lex and advises him to stop, triggering another flashback – Lex spying on his parents as Lillian reluctantly bonds over infant Julian despite her reservations about Lionel and his treatment of Lex. And then there's another flashback/memory of Lex apparently smothering Julian in his sleep.

Lionel comes to visit Clark and Martha and asks Clark to help him with Lex, who is supposedly accelerating the treatments. Clark confronts Garner, who is weakened by the kryptonite-augmented treatments – it's a set-up by Lionel, who is giving Clark to Garner in return for Garner discontinuing Lex's treatments. When Lex finds out his treatments have been cancelled, he lies and tells Lionel he's recovered his memories, provoking Lionel to confront him. Garner goes on with the treatments, probing Clark's memories.

In flashback we see two people, Jor-El and Lara, putting a baby Clark into a spaceship and sending him off. Then the system overloads, triggering an alarm and raising Lex's suspicions. He goes in and finds Garner in a coma, the facility in ruins, and Clark unconscious. Later Clark and Lex talk but Lex doesn't reveal his responsibility in Julian's death. And then Lex has another flashback, where he finally remembers seeing his disturbed mother smothering Julian, then taking the blame to protect her. Lex confronts Lionel again and tells him what he remembers - reluctantly Lionel believes him and regrets everything that might have been different. And Martha and Clark bond over his newfound knowledge of his biological mother. *

Lex recalling his 12 birthday and feeling all alone...

...until Lionel tells him a fascinating story of St. George, a dragon slayer.

Clark's first memory is of his parents...

...but has no idea why they sent him to Earth.

Lex will take the blame for Julian's death, to protect his mother.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scene is accompanied by "My Immortal" by Evanescence:

"Lara...is my biological mother's real name. When I was in the tank, I saw my earliest memory. She was putting me in the ship. Her only fear was that no one would love me. Because of Jor-El, I always thought that my biological parents were monsters, but she wasn't. I just can't believe I forgot about her."

"You didn't, Clark. Your first word was 'Lara.' Your father and I could never figure out what it meant. Now we know."

"I wish she could have met you. To see what a great mom I have."

"She knows, Clark. A mother's love never dies."

My favorite cliffhanger (Part 1)

Commencement
Original Airdate: May 18, 2005 (Season 4)
Directed by: Greg Beeman

Episode starts off with a recap of Season 4.

Lana arrives at her apartment to be greeted by Genevieve, who takes the gun from her at gunpoint. Lana tries to make a run for it but Genevieve grabs her and starts choking her . . . which brings back Isabelle, who easily throws her off. Isabelle uses the stone and stabs Genevieve in the heart with it, causing the tattoo on her back to disappear and Isabelle to disappear, apparently for good, with the completion of her desire to kill the Teagues. Lex arrives and sees everything.

At the Kent farm, Clark is awakened as all the machines start going haywire and Shelby starts pawing at the kitchen door. He opens it to a burst of light and he sees a glowing borealis over the caves. The light flows into a ball . . and Clark wakes up, yelling "It's coming. In space, a meteor splinters on its way toward Earth, with a clock indicating 14:19 until impact.

Lex gets a shocked Lana to the manor and vows to protect her from Genevieve's rich, powerful husband, using his own lawyers. Lana still has the stone, which Lex knows about. A security guard warns them that something has come up. At the Kent farm, Lois announces she's leaving to find her sister (along with her father). Lex goes back to Lana's apartment where Lionel is waiting and offers a deal – the stone in return for Lana's freedom. Lex tries to defend her but Lionel expects the stone tomorrow. The meteor shards impact over the Moon as they approach Earth, and Earth radar picks them up. 9:18 until impact.

Clark prepares for graduation with Lois' help. At the ceremony, Lana is missing as Clark goes up for his diploma. As they call Lana's name, the Army moves in sirens blaring and declare an emergency and evacuation in a 50-yard radius. They warn that in three hours a meteor shower will hit. Lois and Chloe insist on staying to find Lana. Clark goes to the farm, believing he's responsible in some manner. 2:21 until impact.

Clark grabs the hex key for the cave when Lex arrives to offer safe transport. Clark (rather awkwardly) declines his offer and Lex reveals that he knows about the inner chamber in the cave. Clark lies about his knowledge and Lex leaves. Clark goes to the cave's inner chamber and uses the key to call out to Jor-El. Jor-El reveals that the oncoming meteor shower is Clark's fault and the stones are only for him. When Clark denied his heritage, and the human blood stained the stone that Isabelle used, it set the meteor shower in motion. He warns the three stones must become one to save the Earth from annihilation, a disaster even he can't survive. 00:45 until impact.

The Kents are packed and ready to leave when Clark arrives to warn that he has to stay to find the two remaining stones. Jonathan and Martha accept his decision and head for safety. Clark finds Lana in the barn and she gives him her bloodstained stone. She refuses to explain where the blood came from, asking Clark to trust her and confesses her love for him, he admits his love, and they kiss. Then she leaves. 00:19 until impact.

Lana calls Chloe from Luthor Manor as Lex interrupts her call. She lies to him about where the stone is and refuses to give it to him for safekeeping. As the Kents and Shelby prepare to leave, a bloody Jason arrives with a shotgun and wants to know where Clark is. 00:14 until impact. Chloe and Lois try to get to Lana at the manor based on the call but the Army refuses to let them through. Chloe sneaks through anyway when Lois provides a distraction thanks to her father. Clark returns to the cave with the second stone while Lex confronts Lionel at the manor and lies about Lana's presence and that she has the stone. Lex offers Lionel the knowledge of the cave's hidden chamber in return for Lana's freedom. When Clark places the second stone, Lionel goes into convulsions – he has the stone on him. When Lex reaches for it he's blasted back, stunned. When he wakes up Lionel is comatose – Lex orders them to make Lionel comfortable and then takes the stone and heads for the cave.

Clark superspeeds to the manor following the screeching beacon noise, and finds the stone in the vault . . . but it's also filled with kryptonite relics. He manages to grab the third stone but collapses. 00:05 until impact.

Jason is holding the Kents at their house and obviously knows about the gaps in Clark's background. As he demands the stones, Lex gets Lana onto a helicopter to Metropolis but asks for the stone and gets violent when she refuses. Chloe gets to the manor and finds Clark, pulling him clear of the kryptonite. Lex arrives and observes the devastation but doesn't see Clark before he superspeeds away with the third stone. An increasingly angry Lex hauls Chloe along with him to the cave. 00:01 to impact.

Jonathan tells Martha to reveal where the stones are and Jonathan manages to get the drop on him. Jason manages to beat them in the fight but then the meteors hit and one slams directly into the house. More begin to strike as the Army and civilians look on in horror. Clark manages to save one little boy from a fatal impact. Lana's helicopter is caught in the storm and its tail assembly is knocked off and they plummet toward the ground.

Clark returns to the cave chamber with the third stone as Chloe and Lex get there and see the stones start to glow in the chamber. Lex starts to enter but Chloe shoves him into a wall and sees Clark reach out and grab the stone. Energy courses through him as back at the manor, Lionel's brain is overwhelmed by Kryptonian data. Lex manges to stagger in just as a blast of energy flares out . . . and he's in a vast field of snow.

Lois pulls up outside of town and surveys the devastated town. A badly injured Lana managed to survive the crash and pulls clear of the helicopter. She's near a meteor crater and pulls herself up to its edge . . . to see a large version of Clark's ship, which starts to open. In the snow fields, the crystal floats into the air and indicates Clark should throw it. Which he does. (to be continued) *

"Journalism. You ever thought about that? You wrote some half-decent artciles at the Torch."

"Kill me first. Even if I could spell, the last thing I'd do is spend my time in a newsroom. With my luck, I'd probably end up across the desk...from the most bumbling reporter on the masthead."

---------------------------------------

"Clark, I need you to know that whatever happens, I will never forget you."

"Lana, you're talking like we're never gonna see each other again."

"I love you."

" I love you too."

"Goodbye."

My favorite cliffhanger (Part 2)

Arrival
Original Airdate: September 29, 2005 (Season 5)
Directed by: James Marshall

Episode starts off with a recap of Season 4 and its Finale.

The stone spins through the aid and crashes into the snow, and the ground shakes. A huge crystalline fortress emerges from the ground. Clark enters and one small crystal floats up to him. Jor-El addresses him and warns him that a new journey is beginning.

At the crash site in Smallville, Lana looks on as a burst of light flares from the ship and two figures, a man and woman, emerge. They confront Lana but before she can do anything police arrive. Lana limps off as the newcomers use superpowers like Clark’s to take out the police. Afterward they say they must find Kal-El, and they have tattoos similar to the one Lana had on her.

Lois arrives at the Kent house which has been hit by a meteor, and helps Jonathan find an injured Martha and take her to the hospital. In the Indian cave, Lex wakes up and looks for Chloe, but only finds her phone. He also finds the secret chamber and the octagon key. He then turns and spots the two newcomers, who use x-ray vision to determine Lex has the key and then take it. They want to know if he’s Kal-El but determine he isn’t and toss him casually aside before superspeeding away.

Chloe wakes up in the Arctic as well and spots the fortress. Clark is speaking with Jor-El, who reveals the geography of Krypton has been replicated for his training. Jor-El warns that a dark force from Krypton poses a danger to everyone, and Clark must study to learn what he needs to save the planet. Chloe comes in and sees Clark, but a wind springs up and quickly freezes her as she calls out for Clark. Clark hears her and goes to her but Jor-El warns he cannot stop his studies. Jor-El agrees but warns Clark must return before the yellow sun sets or the consequences will be grave. Chloe wakes up enough to let Clark know she knows about his superpowers and he superspeed-runs her to a nearby hospital.

Lex is driving along and finds a shocked Lana, who warns him about the aliens and reveals they came out of a spaceship before collapsing. Chloe and Clark discuss how she knew about his powers, and he reveals he’s an alien. Clark hears a TV newscast about Smallville and a shot of his parents, and Chloe tells him he needs to go for them, which he does.

Lana wakes up at Lex’s mansion and finds Lionel drawing symbols on the floor. A seemingly blind Lionel speaks of the “disciples of Zod” and warns they can only be stopped by their home planet, which is poison. He points Lana toward the vault containing kryptonite. Martha wakes up at the hospital and Lois shows up, but they’re interrupted by explosions and the two aliens step in and demand Kal-El and know Jonathan knows of him. Lois intervenes and gets attacked, but Lana arrives and tells them Kal-El is at the mansion. They release Lois, release Lana, and leave.

Clark arrives at his house where Lex brings him up to speed then asks about Chloe. He claims that Clark was at the cave when the meteors hit but Clark denies it despite Lex’s asking for honesty. Afterward Clark meets Lois at the hospital and she warns him they were looking for Kal-El and went to the manor. At the manor, Lana leads them to the vault where they collapse but manage to stagger out and seal the door. They knock out Lana but Clark arrives and announces he’s Kal-El. They reveal they are the last survivors of Krypton and want him to join them in conquering the world. Clark refuses and the woman throws a bracelet-like device that creates some kind of portal to some kind of prison-dimension – the other one then knocks him into it but Clark manages to grab hold but is still slowly pulled in. When they turn away he manages to pull himself clear and throw them in. The portal-prison then turns into a rectangle and flies out the window, while Clark goes to help Lana as the sun sets. He spots the key but when he cuts his finger on glass he realizes he now powerless.

Martha and Jonathan return to the farm and Clark reveals he’s lost his powers, but that he’s happy he normal. Lex tracks Chloe down to the hospital in the Yukon and comes to take him home. Clark goes to visit Lana, who has received a message from Lex saying he covered up the deaths of Jason and his mother. Lana admits she meant it when she told him she loved him, and Clark reciprocates the feelings. Lana tells him about the spaceship and he goes to see it – it’s gone. At a LuthorCorp facility, the spaceship is in a secret hangar and is leaking a black oil. The oil streams away from the spaceship, and forms into a humanoid figure. *

Epic. Awesome. Classic. Or as Chloe calls it, the "40 story igloo."

------------------------

Chloe: "I wonder who is more freaked out right now? Me...knowing I'm in a hospital where they get the medicine via a dogsled. Or you? Finally finding out I know your secret."
Clark: "How long have you known?"
Chloe: "I guess I've always had my suspicions. The quick exits, the miraculous recoveries, the lame excues. But I think when I saw you catch a car like it was a beach ball, that kinda confirmed everything."
Clark: "You're a good friend, Chloe."
Chloe: "Clark, I think you're so amazing. You save people's lives and take zero credit for it. To me you're more than just a hero. You're a superhero."
