King Kong Extended Edition

From DVDActive:

Title: King Kong
Starring: Naomi Watts
Released: 14th November 2006
SRP: $34.98 & $79.98

Further Details:
Universal has announced a new deluxe extended edition of the Peter Jackson directed King Kong which stars Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody. The three-disc package will be available to own from the 14th November this year, and should set you back around $34.98. A limited edition giftset will also be available from the 14th - and this should retail at around $79.98. We're not sure what this will include yet, although it's a safe bet that it will be a statue of some kind! Further details should follow later in the day.

Personally, I thought Kong was just average despite it's great FX. This will be a rental for me as I'm curious what was cut.

Can't wait! Some of the things left out of the movie were in the original trailer, so can't wait to see how it all plays out... by far one of my favourite movies...

BYAAH!!

</davechappelle>

I knew not getting the first dvd would have paid off. I'll definitely be picking this up.

Peter Jackson should put a little intermission thing in the middle of the movie...just a thought.

The main flaw of the film as it is is that it is waaaay too long. Now they're adding MORE to it?! Count me out.

Agreed.

I think I'm in the minority in thinking that this was really not worth the hype surrounding it, or the time it took to watch it all. Glaringly self-indulgent twaddle.

Oh, I'm right there with ya, buddy. And I know for a fact that there were at least a few other people around these boards who didn't like the film that much either...

I heard rumors of this extended version even before it's release so I held off buying King Kong even though it was my favorite movie of '05. I'll be picking this up the second it comes out.

I don't know why but the time just flew by for me. I do agree with Double-Oh and the rest that it is a little long for sure but I was never bored for a second.

Agreed fellas. Petey needs to learn how to pace his films. King Kong is twice as long as the original and doesn't add anything more substantial, unless you care about Jimmy's reading material and what zoo animal he breast fed from. The last thing I want to do is be forced to watch an even longer cut of an already dried out film.

If you dig it, cool, but count me out of the Kong hype. I don't buy it.

The one tiny, itty-bitty, little thing I disagree with you on the adding something substantial to the new one is that Kong and Anne have a relationship in the new one. In the original, she can't wait for the thing to die off, but in this one she befriends him and doesn't want anything to happen to him. It's one of the things that I really liked about the movie. That's just me though.

I think Jackson will omit a lot of the TC and reinforce new material.
He might even delete the Jimmy crap for all we know - directors have been known to can scenes in their director cuts.
Or is this not one?

It's being touted as an extended edition. I think he'll just be adding stuff.

True that. You got me! lol

That was one angle i dug with the new film too, and I'll admit I really enjoyed the ice sequence. That was the only real addition, as far as new scenes go, that enriched the story. Unfortunately for me it wasn't enough to save it from being too long, too hokey and too bland.

If they do take away enough of theJimmy qngle, and some other bits, i may pick it up, but Peter Jackson has made a career out of giving his fans everything and then some. The chances of this taking the Alexander approach are slim.

i believe theres only 13 min. of new stuff, but he's adding another 40 min. of more deleted scenes, so i'm sure were gonna get everything we could want

I'm mixed on this, the set sounds awesome and I'd love to have the commentary and all the extras, and the fact that they aren't doubling up on the production diaries means I don't mind double dipping too much.

After all Kong was one of my favourite films of last year, but I liked the film pretty much as it was. I thought it was bordering on too long, I found the length about perfect, but even 13 mins added might make a difference and it makes me hesitant as I think I will prefer the original, it's not like Lord of the Rings where they had to cram loads of material into the time and so an extended edition helped the story.

Even so I will probably get it for the extras and to check out the deleted scenes and added scenes, after all one of things that annoyed me on the first version extras was because they were the produection diaries they couldn't talk about specifics on the film because they came out before it's release so it would be nice to see some extras for some of the end sequences and such. Plus if I don't prefer the film I can always watch the original version!

It does kind of annoy me though pourely because I don't think this version is necessarily PJ's idea, it seems like after lord of the rings the studio were expecting an extended version and it allows them to make a bit more money by holding out on extras to re-release a film that didn't really need anything adding to it.

Fuck. I was about to go on this huge rant about how they shouldn't have released a 2-disc version if they were gonna release a 3-disc one and blah blah blah, and how I wasn't gonna buy this, but.... goddamn it. I know I'm gonna fuckin buy this. I'm such a damn pussy.
