![]() *WARNING! May contain spoilers!* With the release of Clerks II, I decided to watch all of Kevin Smith's films over again. While "Clerks" is my favorite, one stands out as the best. That would be "Chasing Amy". This movie is so good it hurts. Simple plot synopsis, co-creater of the Bluntman and Chronic comic book Holden falls in love with Alyssa Jones, who just happens to be a lesbian. At first, the plot may seem a bit... strange, but this turns out to be a great, beautiful (yes i said beautiful) story. It's quite clear Holden's got a challenge a head of him (this will be explained later in the film when Alyssa's past "exploits" are revealed). Ben Affleck (Holden) owns the film. Great job man! The scene where he revelas his love for Alyssia is totally believeable. Unlike a lot of romantic comides, this film dosent make anything look cheasey. That scene especailly seems very real. Joey Lauren Adams does great as Alyssa. Along with Affleck, she's great with the emotional scenes. Jason Lee is alway a joy to watch, and Bankey is a perfect charecter for him. Then of course, there's Jay and Silent Bob! Who only appear on screen for one (but important) 10 minute scene. It is in this scene, Silent Bob gives the reason for the movies title. I liked the ending of the film. To quote Dante Hicks, it kinda ends on a bit of a "down note" (but this all depends on who you ask). Chasing Amy is a wonderful, extremly well written, and at times touching film. Couldn't ask for anything more in a movie. Truly one of the best ever made. 10/10 Last edited by HannibalGuy; 08-02-2006 at 11:32 PM.. |

I consider Chasing Amy to be one of the three best KS films
1- CLERKS, according to most people. 2- Chasing Amy 3_- CLERKS 2. But that pretty subjective anyway... I first read the script a couple of months ago and I though (and still do) to be the best one I've read. Anyway, wind up seeing the movie a couple of weeks ago and is very good... like POWERFUL and REAL. I couldn't help but to relate to so many of the issues presented in the movie... be it sex, one's sexual past, prejudice, misunderstandings, maturity, etc... There's a lot of very deep things in this movie, and they are presented in a very honest way that I really connected to. The acting is superb, great use of music, and... I don't know... it all feels very personal. I believe I'm a different person after I watched this movie... and is all for the best... I recommend it to everyone, especially those who like to question and think after they see a movie... 9/10 "In the end, it's comprehension of the past not condemnation what matters" "You have to put the individual ahead of their actions" PS: Favorite scene: The discussion outside the hockey rink... HEARTWRENCHING... And the scene with JAY and SILENT BOB... I had to put it. Truly a classic. |
