Long Weekend (1978)

This forgotten Australian gem see's a married couple who are struggling with their relationship go off into the bush to have some rest. After husband Peter gets mega-bitch wife Marcia there they litter and kill the wildlife. Freaky things start to happen as nature dicides that it has had enough of their crap and the fabric and past of their relationship unfolds and withers away. The film sometimes struggles with their location (Tasmanian Devils in the Victorian bush) and Marcia get very irritating but all in all this is a good little film from Down Under, and a few times it looks like Raimi watched this shortly before filming Evil Dead.

A very forgotten and underrated Gem!!!

The Long Weekend is a very rarely talked about brilliant horror masterpiece of human frailty. Though, in the 70's the concept of animals turning on man has been done numerous times. the reason in the Long Weekend for the retaliation is because of the carelessness of man. The finale is truly unforgettable and stays with you.

This IS manditory viewing for horror fans everywhere!

The carelessness of man!? What is it in people that they feel every movie carries some story of human failure in it? I bet if the directors for these movies were interviewed half of them would laugh at the idea that they actually had a "moral of the story" thing in their films. I mean that's like saying Halloween and Friday the 13th were made to promote abstinence and to finally get the message across to teens..."Just say no!"
