Thinning of the herd (And need your help)

With the birth of my first kid just days away (Due 4/8/07), last week I decided to sell a good portion of my DVD collection to help with bills. I also decided that I'm going to refine my buying habit a bit and only buy the movies that I really truly loved and know for sure I'll be watching again; most of the one's I'm selling are good movies but I probably should have just rented (that wasn't an easy realization).

So, here's my list of 300 movies I pulled from my collection (which was 1126), my wife agreed to part with some of hers too. With the announcement of the Sergio Leone Anthology the other day I'm putting my Man with No Name Trilogy set into the mix and resurrecting 3 films from this list. What 3 films are worthy of reclaiming? And, have any of you done something like this recently?

Yeah, those are good ones.
I remember loving Tron as a kid and I watch it again about a year ago just after I got that DVD (which I was totally stoked about, excellent features on the DVD) I realized how much it had aged. It was of course spectacular and awesome when it came out in '82 but now it's more of a 'great memory' type of movie for me.

Yeah, I'm hoping the do for the Muppets take Manhattan like they did for the Muppet Movie and Muppet Christmas and come out with a better release.

The Sinatra one was a definite hard choice, as I own a great deal of his records.

I'm also hoping for a better release of Wag the Dog, as it was one of the pre-2000 DVD releases...

Good choices...
Man, this may be a bit harder than I thought...

Are you really going to listen to these suggestions? I mean, are you going to tally the title with the most votes and save it from being sold?

I'd go with:

National Treasure
Scrooged
The X-files

All rewatchable, fun films.

Good question.

No, it's more of a "If this were YOUR collection and YOU could only save 3 of these movies which ones would YOU choose" sort of thing. I still haven't decided which ones I'M going to save, and they may be some of the ones other people would choose or maybe not. I'm just curious what other people would choose, and that will HELP ME with my decision. Because when someone else makes their choice for what they would save I will contemplate their choices for my own and then decide why I choose that movie to sell in the first place.

I'll be deciding which ones to save myself sometime this weekend and I will be posting my decision here, and we'll see how close my choices where to other peoples. I don't base my decisions on what other people think are good movies but it does help. That's one of the things that are so great about movies and sites like JoBlo. Everyone seems to like/dislike movies for different reasons and it's interesting when people have the same tastes. It's what brings us all here in the first place. And that's when the whole world exploded in one big orgasm of unity... sorry for the long answer but I felt that question deserved a good explanation.

I agree.

I thought National Treasure was much better than the expectations I had for it. With a National Treasure 2 in the works I'm expecting maybe a re-release of it with NT2 on DVD; and if it is just as good I might pick them up as a bundle.

Scrooged is one of my favorite movies so I'll be picking up the 'Yule Love It Edition' if that ever actually comes out...

Man, I do miss the X-Files TV show, I still need to get those Box Sets. I'm also hoping with another possible X-Files movie in the works that maybe we'll get a better release of this too.

As you can tell, I picked a lot of these DVD's to sell now because I'm hoping for better releases in the future and I knew I could get some $$$ for them now. I've been such a DVD fanatic the past few years that this really was a hard decision. But I did have to fess up with myself that the more DVD's I bought the harder it was becoming to find the time to watch ALL of them, which made it harder to justify my purchases. I also managed to convince my wife that part of our deal is that I get to rejoin Netfilx so we can rent more movies rather than me buying them all...

For enjoyment and rewatchability (is that even a word?) factors I kept:
In Good Company
Runaway Jury
And my wife decided to keep:
Empire Records

That was tough decision with some very good movies in this pile... Thanks to those who responded.

I'm going to try to sell this whole bundle of DVDs to one customer, hoping for about a $3 per/ DVD average... we'll see.
