Could you complain anymore?
This woman came in to the library last night to check out DVD's. She started off right away bitching to me that all of our movies are scratched and that she almost didnt want to rent any. At our checkout counter, where nothing moves quickly anyways, she stood there and opened every single case, inspected the DVD, breathed on it then wiped it off on her scarf and then put some back because they had some "Scratches on them" or "i can tell this has been cleaned by you guys, I dont want it." I just stared at her while she did all of this, then she tried to spin me a sob story about how a DVD of ours ruined her brand new DVD player. "I had just bought it, watched one movie on it, put in one from here, it played then messed up and my DVD play was broken ever since."
I explained to her, very nicely, that a DVD wouldnt break a DVD player. Its just not possible. It would have to be the most scratched up, unplayable movie ever for it to even cause a problem. I told her about how cheap DVD players dont last long, and that she simply got ripped off (she said she bought it at wal-mart, home of the most quality items on earth....not) and she got mad then and said "you're the second person in here thats called me a liar about this!" and I just smirked and checked out what few DVD's she chose and sent her on her way. People do this all the time though. They blame us, like the employees are the ones messing up DVD's. Its called the consumer, not the employee. We arent the ones that rent them and tear them up. We're the ones that check them in and out and make sure they are ok. If something doesnt work right, its not our fault. Dont complain to me about it and hold up my goddamn checkout line. There is nothing I can do about it. |

I think my favorite part was that she bitched because you cleaned them.

Some customers bitch at the closest individual to them. I've been on line in stores and some big mouth man/woman will get people all riled up about how "this" is wrong with this place or "these" things suck and this place should do "this" or "that". These people are simply fucking moronic and like to hear the sound of their own voice bitching, along with directing blame whether it has anything to do with you or not. I feel ya, brother. That's why they took my rubber mallet away from me at my job. Sometimes, I just wanted to take that mallet and.... |

Ok man, this is atleast you second rant about the dvd's in your library and it leads me to suggest you find somewhere else to work if for nothing else but your rising blood pressure from dealing with these fucking idiots and such lol.
But seriously, its a Library and not to say your is crapy or that you don't take care of stuff or anything but its a Library. I'm assuming the DvD rentals there are free so how can any sane person think they are in the right to bitch about ones that are scratched??? The part where she blames your DvD's for ruining her DvD player, even after admitting she bought it at Wally-fart, would have gotten me fired from your job for my reaction if i were in your shoes. CAN"T STAND BLATANTLY STOOPID PEOPLE!!!! And as for the part where she said "your the second person who's accused me of lying about this" i would have just responded "Gee.... you think theres a patern forming here?" I can't remeber who it was atm that had their rant of some woman coming into the Blockbuster they worked at and was a total tard and such but this rant totaly reminded me of it and reminded me why i have gone to great lengths to not have a job that deals with these fucking mouth breathers all day but to you my friend i wish you good luck and look forward to the day when i read hte headline "Library clerk was charged with Manlaughter today after choking the life out of a person in the Library" ![]() |

It's a library, and the movies are free. And then she tries to berate you based on the quality of what's available. Tell her to take her ass to Blockbuster if she wants less scratches.

I bought a $50 DIVX/DVD player from Wal-Mart 3 years ago, and it still works fine, 2 years longer than the POS Sony I spent $300 on at Circuit City. The lady was concerned about bringing home a bad disc - so what? Then the lady EXPLAINS to you why she is inspecting the DVDs, probably just out of respect, but it doesn't matter because you've already judged that she's a moron. And get the hell off it - its not YOUR LINE. It isn't like Ballbuster is going to take money from your pocket if you don't sell enough movies. WHAT? Is BB paying their clerks on commission. It's not like you're a cop, and that's your beat or something. You're running a fucking register, man. If there was a problem, you should have had a second line open up. I see people in line holding me up for all sorts of stupid shit, and never once have I thought any differently than it's the clerks fault for not calling for assistance, and sitting there trying to engage in battle of wits against invisible enemies. Right. Yeah! People are morons. There are some people who shop at BB who are morons. Okay. Great. I think it's getting close to time to hear some rants about condescending store clerks who hate their job. |

actually if someone is dumb enough to put a dvd in their player with enough (or large enough) debris to do something to it then they deserve to have to buy another one....simple.
which is what i told everyone...it wasnt our job to inspect them before you play them....consider that many people have had it before you so plan accordingly and my store would only allow 2 custs in line before someone better be helping out...i could care less about lines...i care about the retarded shit that came out of peoples mouths...and as i said before generally this wasnt the case but trust me....i managed several fucking stores and it is universal....since i was there 6 or 7 days a week (one reason i am not there among many) and the customer is always right unless they arent.... and yes i and my family/friends now have got many dvd players from cheap stores cause they last from 1 to 4 years fine and play everything....great if i read it right though jackson was at the freaking library....that junks free...and the library as nice as they are are not retail customer service driven establishments....they just dont have the money to hire tons of people for that...nothing against libraries....but come on at least they had a reason to check the discs and complain when paying for stuff...no problem....but when its free or on a pass (which basically means they get free dvds all month) and yes people are morons..... they want says and do the stupidest things...myself included kinda like the assholes who take a fing shopping cart through the self check out lane...... 12 items or less aint a suggestion its a rule fool |

Yeah, I know, but that's exactly what this lady was doing - making sure there's no debris. See, that's what's bugging me - it should be fuck whatever happened to this lady before, all she is now doing is trying to take more responsibility for her stuff, since apparently she feels Blockbuster isn't doing it for her. It's not her job to make sure there's no boogers on the disc, maybe her responsibility to her equipment, but its damn sure Blockbusters responsibility. If this lady had gotten home and found a dirty disc she shouldn't have to drive back to return it. That shit has happened to me, though not at Blobkbuster and it was just the *wrong* disc, but still how big of an asshole would have this lady been if she had to drive all the way back and disrupt Jackson's precious shift? Since when is it the customers burden to assume the merchandise they are renting has not been inspected to prevent damage?? Otherwise, the car rental industry would be on its head. "Oh sorry, Mr Ass Hole, you should have inspected the brakes before getting it out on the road!" And it doesn't have to be "large enough" either man, those components in a player are tiny, it really doesn't take much, and ironically the higher end players with more pin-point accurate parts are more susceptible. However, I do owe Jackson a major apology because I somehow forgot that he was working the library. Sorry Jackson! What can I say, you're a vortex of fury! |

yeah i hear ya
i would reccommend to my customers to check it first since we are right there at the store and plenty to go around....and yes in the rental business the customer does assume responsibility for correct play. since they go through hundred of players *unlike used cars* and yes the high end players are more susceptable...i always recommended to also that they spend the 30 bucks at walcrap or target or anywhere and i also agree with you on the point that it shouldnt be the customers responsibility to inspect...it should be bb...but ever since vhs went away (we always checked and rewound them cause no one was kind and rewound) but with dvds the volume coming in and out is just too much to check each one for damage....it wouldnt hae been hard but corporate deemed it not worth the time. and hey i hate blockbuster. i say use netflix or a hollywood box at cub or redbox anything but bb cause of their fuck you policy to employees and customers veiled in more for you ads but thats a whole nother rant the original rant and what i am quick to expound on is that these customers bitch about shit that is just common fucking sense...and i know cause every time they bitch i would go test the dvds....and they worked just fine 9 out of 10 times. |

I do have to say that I'm glad VHS is gone - those were the worst because you had foot after foot of tape, any place upon you could come across grape jelly or whatever. It's cool renting movies & stuff but its like movie prostitution and you don't know where that movie's been or what you'll catch.

I have seen a dvd ruin a dvd player but this was a rare crazy scenario on how it happened. You know those little black bars they put inside dvds for security so the doors will buzz when you walk out well somehow that little security strip got on the dvd itself and when they played it on their dvd player it ruined the player. It was a new dvd they had bought from us. Thats a crazy insane scenatio though. Scratches could never break a dvd player because the dvd never touches the lens, this was a foreign object that was magnetic, so its possible but highly unlikely.

Have you ever seen a 16 month old play with DVDs? I think that happens to rented discs more than we'll ever realize. Scratches are nothing. |

Yeah, normally I'd say that chick had a point, but not if she's renting from a damned library.

Ah, the old video store customer service days. I could share some stories. We could just pool all our experiences together and make a Clerks 3 movie.

That's technically true, but why would they even bother recommending that you clean your discs if there's no harm from using them? It's like the guns don't kill people argument, I guess. |

I used to work for BB over here in the UK, you get all kinds of shit. One woman tried to claim that she had a snapped DVD when she bought it and wanted her money back plus compensation, I was the one who sold it to her and it was fine when she bought it. I made her watch the CCTV which clearly showed me checking an unbroken disc. She still wouldn't take no for an answer so I managed to get her escorted off the premises by the police as she was a disruption to the other customers, i giggled my mutha fuckin ass off
