Band Of Brothers

I just joined this site and so far I'm really enjoying this site.

With that said, what I want to know is what are your thoughts on Band Of Brothers?

I absolutely think this is a great mini-series. From the sets, to the dialouge, actors, the way it was directed to the total feel of the whole damn movie..lol

It's 1 of those series where you can watch them over and over again and always see something new every time you watch it.

I GIVE IT A 10/10

Directed by
David Frankel (parts 7 "The Breaking Point" and 9 "Why We Fight")
Tom Hanks (part 5 "Crossroads")
David Leland (part 6 "Bastogne")

David Nutter (part 4 "Replacements")
Phil Alden Robinson (part 1 "Currahee")
Mikael Salomon (parts 3 "Carentan" and 10 "Points")
Tony To (segment 8 "The Last Patrol")

I've only seen half an episode, and always wondered if it the whole series is worth watching.

What a question, X-Ray. I don't understand how from the half and episode you have seen you failed to conclude for yourself that the whole series is worth watching. I can say with utmost confidence that Band of Brothers is one of the most monumental cinematic achivements of recent times. The series is absolutely FASCINATING - of course its cinematic value is unprecedented, but also its historical and dramatic value as well. If the word "flawless" has ever been appliable to anything in the world, it is appliable to Band of Brothers. The most unbelievable masterpiece I've ever seen.

10/10.

It was very well done and I admire it but I couldn't fully get into it. Like a lot of war movies with a huge cast, I couldn't tell who was who part of the time and made it harder to connect with them. It was a good series though

I agree this show is basically flawless. I felt that all the love that Saving Private Ryan got really should have been showered on Band of Brothers. Its everything you could want in a war movie, and its everything you could want in a miniseries. I say go rent it if you haven't seen it yet, and you'll be happy you did.

I own the DVD and I absolutely love the show. I make all my friends watch it. I've seen all 10 episodes probably 15 to 20 times each.

10/10 for sure.

I agree with that sentiment. It was everything SPR was trying to be, and it succeeded flawlessly at it. A full roster of dynamic characters supported by some brilliant performances. Gripping storylines and breathtaking cinematography mixed with heart-pounding action.

I recommend it to everyone on the highest level.

Agreed, and I own it, too. I'd say that the first part of the the first episode may not grab some people, but keep stay with it and it'll reward you 10 fold.

It's based on a Stephen Ambrose book, about a real paratrooper company, and all the characters depicted are the real people who went through it all, many of them still alive. They saw nearly every major batle of the northern theatre of WWII, and it's extremely well depicted in the mini-series. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I can't speak for the series but I read in the epilogue of the book that the beginning of the story was told in erratic fashion to give a kind of feel for what the soldiers were going though in boot camp and advanced training.

The fast, chaotic pace of combat training, meeting all the new faces and trying to learn their names, being transfered meeting more new faces and struggling to become familiar with your new environment.

At the risk of sounding cliche'-ish Band of Brothers is amazing because it's true. The average age of those men was around 21, they survived some of the most rigorous training the Army had to offer and were sent off half way around the world to fight a war they didn't start.

It's awe inspiring to me because of how unselfishly these men acted. As a matter of fact the only thing I can say bad about the series is that it makes me feel guilty when I place myself in the shadow of those men.

Some interesting facts off the top of my head:

* The "real life" Cpt. Richard Winters lives only about 45 minutes from me and is alive well at age 89.

* The "real life" Capt Sobel died in 1987, none of the men from the 101st attended his funeral

That's all I can think of at the moment, been almost a year since I've read the book.
