The Coolest Kickass Movie Women Tournament

It's time, once again, to give honor to the coolest women in the movies and to finally decide among ourselves which one is the best, the coolest, the strongest, the most courageous kick-ass woman of them all!

I've gathered a list of contenders that include a few unexpected characters just for the sake of fun. When I mean "kick-ass," I don't mean just women who can put up a good fight. (Let's face, not even a Mack truck can stop one of these, while a few others would be knocked out with a good back hand.)

What I mean is strong-willed, tough, smart, courageous women with the knack to survive just about anything thrown at them. It' s up to you to judge which of these women have the best of these characteristics in the matches.

Because so often once a tournament begins, a few schmoes will voice complaints that their favorite somebody or something wasn't included, I'll allow a few days for all interested participants to look over the list before I officially start this tournament.

If anyone thinks another female character deserves to be a contestant, 1) post a solid reason why that character should be listed. 2) decide which contestant on the list should be removed to make room for your addition and post a good reason why that contestant should be eliminated in favor of yours. 3) At least two other schmoes must agree with your addition and elimination request. Who knows, one of them might be me. And, of course, I have final decision on any changes to the original list.

A "solid reason" is not because "she's hot." We've got a thriving tournament going on about that subject already. A "solid reason" is not that you didn't like the movie the character appeared in or the actress who played her. We're here to only judge the merits of the characters themselves.

A solid reason for elimination is if you feel the character and movie she's in may be too obscure or too much of a flop for enough people to have seen it and be able to make sound decisions about her in the match-ups. Another is if you honestly feel one of the characters just doesn't deserve to be listed with the others.

This is your one-time opportunity to participate, even in this limited fashion, in the selection process of the contestants. I expect the tournament to begin on Tuesday morning, pacific time, barring any unforeseen problems.

A big thank you to Le_Big_Mac for his many contributions to this list and for helping me out in general!

I'm happy with the list. Interesting choices.

One thing, Charlie Baltimore was played by Geena Davis, not Sharon Stone.

Ok, others need to agree. Who should be eliminated to make room for Alice? I'm partial to your suggestion, but more depends on who you think needs to go.

Alice - in
Sorsha - out (anyone who falls for Kilmer is NOT kickass)

Lol! Interesting choice to give the boot, though I'm not sure you've given a solid enough reason (judge the character, not the actress.)

The problem with Alice is which Alice? (I'm posting pictures for the matches) Alice of Nightmare 3 - Kristen Clayton, or Alice of Nightmare 4 - Lisa Wilcox. Kind of a drag when two different actresses play the same role.

I'm digging the choices so far. How about the women from 'The Descent'?

I was actually referring to the character... Sorsha falling for Madmartigan's BS when the was under the influence was pretty sad.

I'd say Lisa Wilcox for Alice.

Alice Johnson was played by Lisa Wilcox and Lisa Wilcox only in Nightmare 4 and 5, and was NOT a character in 3. And yeah, she should be in...

Ok, I hear what you're saying about Sorsha, yeah.
Between you, me, and JJFlamingo, Alice - Lisa Wilcox - is in.

I need two schmoes to back up mrdeed's request to eliminate Sorsha - is this your way of doing so, Tagia_Romero?

About Descent, we already have Sarah and Juno as contestants, so I think I've got that one covered, unless you want to suggest another character from that movie.

Glad to see you got around to starting the tournament (I helped with some of the contestants).

Anyway, here are a few others:

Stevie Wayne (Adrienne Barbeau) - The Fog (1979)
Mei (Ziyi Zhang) - House of Flying Daggers
Jennifer Hills (Camille Keaton) - I Spit on Your Grave

- Priz (she didn't really do anything, just put up with shit; technically, she's not even a woman)
- Nancy Callahan (same as above minus the "not a woman" part; yes, I know I was the one who suggested her)
- Ana (she was kind of the leader of the group, but she didn't really do much ass-kicking as I recollect)

I was only messing around with mrdeed's comment, really. Let's just say I had a huge crush on Kilmer as a teen and I would have fallen for him easily with or without being under the influence. I have no argument with any of those on your list. It truly is a pity that you are focusing primarily on movie women rather than also branching into videogame territory because I find that Samus Aran and Jill Valentine from 'Metroid Prime' and 'Resident Evil' would have been worthy additions.

C'est la vie. But you have my support either way and I can't wait until this tournament gets it's show on the road, Kiki.

I know what you mean about the younger Val Kilmer As far as videogame, yikes! Well, I don't play them for one thing, but even if I did, it would have even harder to have come up with a list that's not too enormous!

Glad to have your support and looking forward to starting it off, as well. It'll mean that the majority of my work will be finished! Still figuring out good match-ups.

Can't back you about Stevie since she spent most of the movie giving weather up-dates and talking on the phone. What I know about I Spit on Your Grave makes me think Jennifer is probably appropriate, but I'll let two other schmoes help make that decision. I'll back up your suggestion of Mei, but we need another schmoe to agree with us.

As for Priz, I see your point (and technically, there are a few who aren't women or human on the list ) All things considered, she wasn't that strong in the survivability department, which is a major factor in how these women should be judged.

Nancy Callahan was a survivor, and when it came down to it, she didn't shrink away from fighting for her life. You're right about Ana being one of the leaders, but she did some literal zombie ass-kicking, and survived the ordeal. I think these two should stay.

However, if two ofther schmoes back you up, I'll have to give that fair consideration in the final decision.

As it stands now, Alice is in - except she can't be placed until one contestant is eliminated. So far suggestions for eliminations have been:

Sorsha
Priz
Nancy Callahan
Ana

I need one more schmoe vote to eliminate Priz; two votes to eliminate one of the others.

Le_Big_Mac needs two schmoe votes to add:

Stevie Waynes
Jennifer Hills

and one more schmoe vote to add Mei.

I hope this isn't too confusing!

Cool list! Since I usually catch these tournaments well after they've started, I'll be sure to keep an eye on this one, perhaps even participating. Just a couple of quick thoughts, in the vein of constructive criticism:

- Lucy McClane was played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, not a possible relative of Cary Grant's North By Northwest costar.

- Since you have on the list the same essential character played by two different actresses (Nikita/Maggie Hayward), what about Clarice Sterlings (Jodie Foster vs. Julianne Moore)?

- Some possible additions to the list:
Pearl - Payback (Lucy Liu - again)
Mace - Strange Days (Angela Bassett)
Ursa - Superman II (Sarah Douglas)
Katya - Die Hard: With A Vengeance (Sam Phillips)

That's all I've got. But I'll be sure to be around.

Okay, the list of contestants has been updated. Priz is out and Alice from Elm Street is in. And a good choice, too, considering she survived two Elm Street movies and had the smarts to leave that damned town afterwards and never come back.

I'm so glad I posted this list - just so people can point out my stupid goofs!

Gave that due consideration when compiling the list, but decided to only go with Foster. Imo, she's the better Clarice.

Thanks for the suggested additions. However, you haven't given me any solid reasons why they should be added. For instance, I haven't seen Payback in a long time, and I didn't like the movie. So my memory of it is vague. Since I have the final decision in this process, talk me into what you want - Convince Me! (This isn't directed soley at you, but to the thread as a whole.)

Please remember when you want additons that you need to select characters from the list to eliminate in order to make room for new additions. And that two other schmoes must agree with you. Otherwise, your favorite kickass characters will not be added. So, choose wisely.

So far, suggested eliminations are, each needing 2 schmoe "votes":

Sorsha
Nancy Callahan
Ana of Dawn of the Dead remake

Suggested additions are:

Stevie Waynes - The Fog (2 votes needed)
Jennifer Hills - I Spit on Your Grave (1 vote needed)
Mei - The House of Flying Daggers (1 vote needed)

(Come to think of it, Le_Big_Mac, you didn't give reasons for adding these ones, either.)

Don't know what you mean by "all of them." All around vote against additions except Stevie or all about vote for eliminations?

Going to rewatch The Fog, though, since we have a difference of opinion about Stevie. If I change my mind, I'll back you up. Haven't seen it in a while.

I vote for Jennifer Hills. Not for one SECOND did she comply, she fought them all the time and even tried to REASON with them when she was temporarily incapacitated. And that revenge... well, she wasn't doing that out of the kindness of her (allegedly) fairer sex heart, was she?

Not that they deserved it! Very cool - I was leaning towards her myself. Jennifer is in but can't be added until one of the other characters is eliminated. From the previous posted list, whom do you chose?

I argued against eliminating Nancy, but of all the Sin City women, she's the weakest (besides Becky, that is.) Between you and Le_Big_Mac, I'm taking her out to make way for Jennifer, a more worthy contender. Anyway, of the ones suggested for elimination, the only one I'll fight tooth and nail for is Ana. She's staying.

Does anyone want to back up Le_Big_Mac with his addition request of Stevie Waynes from the original The Fog? She does kickass in the last scenes - the only one in the movie who actually fights the "fog" creatures.

Of course, that means chosing someone to eliminate. I don't have a problem losing Sorsha.

Understandable. Stevie's pending (and I've got the pictures to prove it ) until another schmoe votes out Sorsha or nominates another character to be removed from the list and two other schmoes approves (who knows, one might be me.)

Hello and welcome to the first day of the Coolest Kickass Movie Women's Tournament!

There have been plenty of addition requests, but not enough elimination suggestions and votes needed to meet all the addition requests. Sorry, guys. But we did gain two worthy contenders over the past couple of days.

The usual tournament rules apply - 24 hours per round.

Remember, we're not just judging the contenders on their fighting abilities, but on their ability to survive, toughness, strength of will and courage, and that sort of thing.

Lets start with a couple of Kill Bill Deadly Vipers! It's:

Elle Driver

Vs
Gogo Yubari
