A Streetcar Named Desire 9/10
For those of you that don't know, A Streetcar Named Desire is the movie where the man yells Stella!! Which is probably known as the most famous part of the movie. That man is Stanley played by Marlon Brando. This is Brando's second movie. It also stars Vivien Leigh as Blanch and Kim Hunter as Stella. It's from Elia Kazan the director of On The Water Front. A Streetcar Named Desire is about Blanch(Leigh) going to see her sister Stella(Hunter) in New Orleans. Brando plays Stella's husband. His performance is best described in the movie Reservoir Dogs, naturally. I suppose the film was trying to show how people change after you haven't seen them after a while. Sure A Streetcar Named Desire was a little boring at parts, but it mainly reminded me just how beautiful movies can be.

I still like On the Waterfront better as a movie. But 'Streetcar' is an ugly movie, not beautiful but ugly how Kowalski played with 'what's her name's' mind. That was terrible. I saw this over a year ago, so it is kind of blurry in my mind but I'd give it 8/10 until I further decide after future viewings.

STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE (9.5/10) A true masterpiece.
Tennesee Williams has a profound gift for dialogue, Brando is god and the cinematography and musical score are hauntingly cool. PS- Check out Tennese William's CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF and SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH both with Paul Newman for more of the same. |
