UNFAITHFUL review (Spoilers)
Just got through watching this movie. Didn't think I would like it...but man I did! Definately on my Top 5 for 2002. This is definately my favorite type of movie: very realstic.
Anyone who has ever been cheated on will understand this whole situation and the emotions that someone goes through when they have been cheated on, and might even have flashbacks.. Its a interesting view on just how much cheating goes on in the US. Diane Lane, an wonderful actress I really love from LONESOME DOVE, plays this role fantastic. I hope her career opens up and she gets a lot of good roles in good Hollywood down the road. She also is a very attractive lady as well. Her crying scenes are so powerful. Her love scenes also make the guys happy (least for me it did) *ahem* anyways... Richard Gere, who really hasn't caught my interest as an actor, surprises me and actually does a nice job playing the suspicious husband. SPOILER - - - - - - - - - The only downfall I felt from this film was the last 3 minutes at the red light. Right before that, when they were dancing, I felt was the perfect time to end the movie. The "going away" idea was a little too much. - - - - - - - END SPOILER There are a few twists and turns and you really shift gears of emotion. Sometimes you do not know whether to feel sorry for Diane's character because of her unhappiness in her marriage, or hate her for doing an awful thing. Same goes for Richard Gere's character, Edward, for what he does do towards the end. Won't say too much on that. As far as the DVD goes, very nice. A few extras in store, if you like watching how films are made. As well as some interviews with the stars of the film. * * * * out of * * * * * |

I just saw this movie today and I liked it a lot. Diane Lane gave great performance and the first half or so of the movie which concentrated on her character was the most gripping for me. Than when it takes the big turn about halfway through and starts focusing more on Gere for a while, it went a bit downhill. It probably has to do with the fact that I really dislike the guy, but I just didn’t find his character as engaging. As for the ending…
SPOILER I think it worked pretty well. It seemed pretty clear to me that he was going to turn him self in – not because of that police sign, but more because of that last scene in the car when they talk about going down to Mexico. From the looks on their faces and way they’re talking about it, it seems pretty obvious they realise this is never gonna happen. It’s like they wanted to sit there and pretend that everything would be alright for one last time. 7.5/10 |

I just finished watching UNFAITHFUL a little while ago. WOW---excellent film. Diane Lane gave a great performance, even Richard Gere did a very nice job. It's one of those movies where I have so much to say about it and I want to write a review for it but I always put it off because it would take forever to say everything I want to say. I do hope to write a review for it soon, but right now I'm tired and need to go to bed. So for now I'll just say 8/10 (B+).

I also dug Unfaithful, especially Lane's performance which should get her a oscar nod. Pretty solid flick, I would give it a 7.5/10.

I would buy the DVD just to watch Lane's quivering tummy scene.

![]() Rating: 3/10 I really hated this film. It is poorly made in every fashion. First, the acting sucks. Diane Lane is bland. She is a bad actress. She is so wooden it is not funny. Gere is also wooden. This film had no emotions. Purely boring. The writing is flat and the narrative flow is so predictable they eliminate excitement. The visuals are also boring. No real interesting shots. Point and shoot. Not worth the time of day. It sucks. When I went to see this, I should've bought a Spider-Man ticket instead. Now that is a great movie. A waste of film, IMO! |

Wow dh, you have the right to your opinion, but to call Lane "bland" and a "bad actress" is kind of insulting. She is easily one of the most underrated actresses around, and she was amazing in this one...but to each his or her own.

Unfaithful (2002)
Director: Adrian Lyne Screenwriter: Alvyn Sargent, William Broyles Cast: Diane Lane <Richard Gere Olivier Martinez Release date: May 8 2002 (LA/NY); May 10, 2002 (wide). Nominations for Academy Awards: None yet It isn't shocking, it isn't frightening, it isn't deafening, and it isn't perfect. But it's Adrian Lyne. Adrian Lyne, the one who gave the world Nine and a Half Weeks, Fatal Attraction, Lolita and Jacob's Ladder. The one who was the first to show us close relationships of woman and men. Unfaithful isn't an exception. Adrian Lyne never crosses his own line, his personal movie line. He always sticks to his own point, that's what he did in Unfaithful as well. A woman is in love, she's married to a good man and they have an 8-year old kid. But once things happen so that in the street she meets a Frenchman who lives in New York and makes his living by buying and then reselling books. She meets him once, twice and it devours her. Her husband first suspects something and then hires a detective to find everything out… The end can be predictable, but you still don't know for sure if it is what you think it is. Adrian Lyne usually films good actors and actresses in his movies, you can never complain on the cast. Nine and A Half Weeks - Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke, Fatal Attraction - Michael Douglas and Glenn Close, Lolita - Dominique Swaine, Jeremy Irons and Melanie Griffith. And in Unfaithful main roles belong to Diane Lane, Richard Gere and Olivier Martinez, they bring movie to life with such a passion; passion which can't be considered as overacting, no way, it must be considered as a wonderful play of every actor, they all do their own valuable contributions to this movie. Diane Lane creates her own world in the movie, her own atmosphere. Everyone seems like arranging with what she does. It's definitely not best Richard Gere's performance, though he seems like forever someone's husband in the movies. Olivier Martinez shows us his wonderful acting, he's being a sweet, charming and adorable, not because he wants to be such a person, but because his role tells him to be. That's the picture everyone will tell later about 'And remember he played in Unfaithful, it was one of his first roles? He did an amazing job.' You can identify Adrian Lyne's movie by its wonderful music. Just remember the main theme from Flashdance, You Can Leave Your Hat On, The Best Is Yet To Come from Nine and A Half Weeks, Ennio Morricone's melodies from Lolita. Jan Ap. Kaczmarek did music for this movie and it really helps you to feel the movie and to get into it. This erotic thriller amazes you and gives you goosebumps. It's definitely worth seeing it and enjoying it. 9/10 |

Side note] I rented this movie with Changing Lanes. Now that’s saying something right there. I actually had the balls to watch two wretched actors in one sitting (The two of course being Richard Gere and Ben “Mr. J-lo” Affleck). As I might be bored, I can’t see myself stooping to levels of renting The Master of Disguise or Serving Sara. I just may rent Swept Away (I have a soft spot for Madonna). I’ll be sure to review it.
Cast: Diane Lane- Connie Richard “fuckass” Gere- I forgot his name we’ll just call him the Antichrist Oliver Martinez- The hot foreign guy Some other people Plot- I think the title says it all Acting- I don’t care what anyone else says, Diane Lane totally rocks in this movie. She expresses the pain and anguish of having an affair like I have never seen before. She is certainly Oscar-worthy. Someone should ban Richard Gere from movies this instant. He has the nerve to actually appear alongside good actresses to make himself look credible ie- Laura Linney, Lane, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and so on.. Commentary- This movie reminded me of A Perfect Murder. It has the same things going for it (rich people running around having affairs and such). Someone usually finds out and there’s hell to pay. I really dug the first 2/3s of the movie. I mean the affair part was great. There are some interesting sex scenes (spoiler: she got it from behind). The last 1/3 of the movie is Gere’s unfortunately. Interpret that as you will. This movie had a really weak ending. The script was so-so. Let’s face it, this is pure Hollywood schlock. Rating- movie 5/10, Lane gets a 10 Oscar-worthy: Lane |
