RISE (Gothika meets The Crow)

I got this news through Dark Horizons:

Dec. 02, 2003

'Rise' shines for Gutierrez, Senator Int'l

Sebastian Gutierrez has signed on to direct "Rise," an original thriller that he also wrote. Senator International will produce alongside Greg Shapiro of Kingsgate Films. "Rise" is a supernatural thriller in which a young female reporter wakes up in a morgue to discover that she is no longer among the living. She vows revenge against those responsible for putting her there and hunts them down. Casting for the lead will start immediately. Senator International will be fully financing the film and handling worldwide distribution. Nathan Kahane and Aubrey Henderson will oversee the project for Senator. Gutierrez wrote the Halle Berry starrer "Gothika" as well as the upcoming Elmore Leonard adaptation "The Big Bounce," starring Owen Wilson and Morgan Freeman. "Rise" will mark his third outing as writer-director. He handled double duty on "Judas Kiss," starring Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman, and HBO's "She Creature," starring Carla Gugino and Rufus Sewell. Shapiro produced the upcoming New Line release "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" for Senator International and produced last year's "The Rules of Attraction," directed by Roger Avary. Gutierrez is repped by WMA and Warren Dern of Offer, Weber and Dern. Kingsgate was repped by David Matlof of AHJTW. (Borys Kit)

Sounds cool to me! Could be good, as long as they don't go all mainstream on us like Gothika. Gothika sounded really promising when the plot came out, but then as things went ahead I kept losing more and more interest, and my expectations were really low when the trailer and then TV spots came out. This sounds like it has promise, and hopefully, they don't fuck it up. And I think it should star Jessica Biel in really tight clothes .

Forget really tight clothes I hope she goes the Mathilda May approach in Lifeforce and just gore bare. Sounds interesting though.

I'll accept this as the "female Crow" film that most of us have been pining for. If they keep things stark and moody, it should turn out well. Biel would be a fine casting choice, but I'd love to see an undead A.J. Chocula (Cook, for those not in the know) kicking a wide variety of ass.

I'm all for Mrs. Biel for this part. I can't wait to see her in Blade 3.

I second that. I wasn't the biggest fan of the first two, although I did like the second better. However, the third one sounds like it will easily be the best of the series, and I'm actually looking forward to it. Yes, a big part of why I'm looking forward to it is because it will have Jessica Biel in it, and she will most likely be in tight clothes. What's not to look forward to? If the movie sucked, she'd at least keep my eyes busy the whole time.

huh, didn't realise this was announced 4 years ago, having said that i've heard practically nothing about this anyway

just checked Rise: Blood Hunter out and was largely bored with it, Lucy Liu isn't a good leading lady imo, she doesn't have the acting ability to carry a film and gave me more laughs than anything else. i also didn't find the plot that interesting, more dull than anything else

5/10
