Question for the schmoes about Sergio Leone

Maybe you guys can help. Im currently ina film theory class and for a paper we ahve to pick a film and apply a theory to it. It occured to me I havent seen any Sergio films so I wanted to ask you guys.

Which of his film is not only the best but the most stylistic so I can have plenty of material to write a paper on. Any help would be appreciated.

With Leone, you can't go wrong, but my personal favorite movie of all time is The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. His others are great as well, especially Once Upon a ... West. Those should help you out!

I dunno for something like that the contrasts in the good, the bad, and the ugly may be a little too.....I'm thinking simple.......If i were you I'd go a little more epic, and a little more current with Once upon the time in America......He passed on the Godfather for this, and prolly meant more to him then any other film he did....I'd go with this.

thanks you guys that helps. I mean I would like to see a good movie but since Im doing a paper on it I want a Leone film that has the most aesthetic and structural things to discuss.

As as Once Upon A Time In America they realeased the full version on DVD right?

Yeah, the Once Upon A Time In America dvd is the 229 minute version, I believe. It's one of the best films ever, but still not as good as The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. While I do prefer the Eastwood flick, I think the De Niro one is more complex and more well-made. I'd go with Once Upon A Time In America.

I'd agree w/ others and pick Once Upon a Time in America. There's a lot of stylistic stuff to talk about it, and probably enough themes to fill the paper you need to write. It's also one of the few 3 hour plus movies I've seen that didn't feel like its length

Segio Leone was one of Italy's great directors. Unfortunately, he's been one of their last in memory.

I think it's time for Italy to churn out more epic directors.

ITALIA! ITALIA!

Sergio Leone made both the best western and the best gangster movie ever made. Be sure and see his movies.

These guys have it right with Once Upon a Time in America. I realize that I need to go out and buy it. I forgot to get it ages ago!

However, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is one of my most favorite movies of all time, and I also enjoy Once Upon a Time in the West almost as much.

There's enough material in all three of those movies to make an extensive report on.
I did a shot-by-shot rundown on the intro to ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST for a film class, and it was 15 pages long. About a page dedicated to each minute.

I would say you'd do well with any of them.
