Usher Has Confession for Dimension

R&B superstar to make his feature leading debut in untitled drama project for Dimension Films.

Usher Raymond, known to the R&B world simply as Usher, has signed on to make his feature starring debut in an untitled drama for Dimension Films. Usher will also serve as an executive producer on the project, with Jonathan Prince and his producing partner Richard Cummings producing with Cecil Chambers and Releve Entertainment's Jonnetta Patton and Holly Davis Carter.
Prince, a showrunner on the NBC series American Dreams, is penning the project said to be in the vein of the Eminem vehicle 8 Mile. The 25-year-old Usher will star as a kid, growing up on the streets, who finds his way out of the 'hood through his music. While rap music was at the center of 8 Mile, the Usher project will focus on his R&B stylings.
The Usher project is now on the fast track at the studio. Dimension co-heads Andrew Rona and Brad Weston will oversee the development with executive Michael Curry.
Although this project will mark the leading debut of Usher, the singer has been seen on the big screen before. He had smaller roles in The Faculty, She's All That and Soul Food. In addition, Usher guest starred on the small screen on American Dreams as Marvin Gaye, which is when he met Prince. He's currently enjoying the success of his hit album Confessions.
