Kicking last week's Top 4 players down 3 places each were all of this week's new releases, which all earned respectable first week figures. Topping the charts was the always reliable Tom Cruise in his acclaimed thriller COLLATERAL. The Jamie Foxx-accompanied film scored $2,461,760 (US $25,290,155), securing it as the 21st Highest Opening Weekend total of the year, and for Cruise it was his 7th Highest. In second place was the sweet romance of Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in THE NOTEBOOK which launched its first national week with $1,066,923, however all together it has managed $1,368,170 (US $14,055,485), taking its Advance Screenings last week into account. The well promoted reality/horror flick OPEN WATER scared its audience out of a neat $1,004,570 (US $10,320,149), marking it at #3. Thanks to this trio, last week's Top 4 all dipped rather heavily. SHARK TALE was off 50% in this, its 4th week of release, but it doesn't have too much to worry about with its total currently sitting at $13,261,022 (US $136,233,143), sitting it at #12 on the Highest Grossing films of 2004. This week it crept past The Last Samurai ($12,698,904), Van Helsing ($12,778,880) and I, Robot ($13,117,596), and has a little under $400,000 to make to break the Top 10. The romantic comedy WIMBLEDON lost some steam after its last two rather solid weeks. This week it dipped 48%, and has collected a respectable $4,685,481 (US $48,134,887) in its 3 weeks. Creature features ANACONDAS and ALIEN VS. PREDATOR sloped 53% and 56% respectively over the weekend, their 2nd and 3rd in release. The Johnny Messner lead sequel has collected an unfancy $1,835,481 (US $18,856,265), whilst the villainous battle up is fairing better with $5,609,890 (US $57,631,527). Lasting in the Top 10 alot longer than I would've expected and breaking considerable bank is the family comedy GARFIELD which sits just on the edge of the Top 10. After 5 weeks it has collected an impressive $10,081,515 (US $103,569,429), marking it as the 17th Highest Grossing film of 2004. It has pushed past similarly targeted The Cat In The Hat ($9,879,054), and is underneath Scooby Doo 2 ($10,747,878). After a 7 week run, Matt Damon drops out of the Top 10 with his thriller THE BOURNE SUPREMACY. All up it has managed a cool $15,417,670 (US $158,388,822), making it the 7th Highest Grossing film of the year, and the third Highest for Damon, behind Saving Private Ryan ($24,172,708) and Ocean's Eleven ($22,234,443). After sitting outside the Top 20 for 2 weeks, THE WEEPING CAMEL broke in this week with $87,286, taking the doco/drama's total to $359,558 (US $3,693,811), similarly, the drama A TOUCH OF SPICE re-enters the charts this week, after briefly dropping out, it has re-entered with $71,974, increasing its total to $343,729 (US $3,531,197).

THIS WEEK (October 21st): Jennifer Lopez adds a spring to Richard Gere's step; Milla Jovovich goes sequel scary; and Will Ferrell is the anchorman we trust.
  • Shall We Dance?
  • RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE
  • ANCHORMAN: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

I also wanted to put down that though I don't put up the Aus Box Office solely for responses, most posts get a response or two and for about 3 months now there's been no responses on my Box Office posts. It would be nice to know at least one week if this still interests people. If it doesn't and these B.O posts are just wasting space, tell me, or if it does interest you and you like reading what I have to say on this topic, tell me as well. Not trying to bitch and complain about not receiving any responses, but if I know how some people feel about this I can know wether or not to continue with them. Thank you.

Thanks Unicron, good to hear from you again. No, haven't pulled the pin and won't be anytime soon as long as I know people like the thread.

Havn't had a big Box Office debut weekend since the likes of The Bourne Supremacy (Aug. 26th) which debuted with $4,880,391, I, Robot (July 22nd) with $4,638,348 and The Village (Sep. 2nd) with $3,117,621. AVP also scored a nice $3,042,854 a couple of weeks back.

Boxing Day is always the big draw weekend, and this will be the first LOTR-free weekend, so plenty of films to get their attention, but The Incredibles is the major release there. In the meantime, Bridget Jones 2, Ocean's Twelve and Lemony Snicket are in the cards to be big takers with possibilites in The Polar Express, Surviving Christmas and Team America: World Police. Plus Blade: Trinity and Meet The Fockers also could score decently, if they still stick to their Boxing Day release dates.

Team America: World Police is due for a MARCH 3rd release here!!!

It will be out on DVD in the States before then!

I,Robot i think i'll wait a few more weeks and get it on DVD. Looks like a sweet Movie ( directed by a Aussie )

Everthing Else will have to wait. The Village looks creepy. But with the amount of twists at the end everyones been telling me about, i think i'll again wait for DVD.

Watching RE:2 last night, Man it was packed! All the year 11 and 12's are out of school and bored! hehe

I saw RE: Apocalypse in a mid afternoon session on Thursday and it was surprisingly full, this could have a good weekend.

And Team America was set for March but has apparently been bumped forward to December, whilst Sky Captain..., another film that could've done well here, has been pushed back till Feb 2005.
