Babies and kids in the theaters
I'm sure this has been stated before - and probably better than I will here, but I have to say it.
What the hell is wrong with these horrible parents that bring babies and small children to movies with them? There are few things that get under my skin more than this. Is there anything in the theater that can ruin movies more than this? Aside from a massive chemical attack I can't thnk of a thing. They are loud, annoying and they don't even want to be there. I like kids, have two myself, so this is not a kid hating thing. But when I take my kids to a movie it is to an age appropriate movie and they behave. Too many disgraceful parents drag their children to a movie that the kid doesn't want to see or SHOULD NOT see, just because they are too lazy or cheap to get a babysitter. They figure that THEY want to see the movie and thier child oisn't going to keep them from doing anything they want to do even if they have to make the kid and evryone else in the theater miserable. These people should have their children taken from them and given to someone that will appreciate them and not put their own desires ahead of the child's and the general public's. Just off the top of my head I can remember small children in the theaters over the past year for the following movies: SAW The Punisher Dawn of the Dead The Forgotten Shaun of the Dead A Dirty Shame I, Robot There's more, bu tI'm drawing a blank. What the fucking hell is wrong with these people?! Some of these kids wouldn't be old enough to see a Teletubbies movie in the theater, much less anything else. They cry, they whine, they bounce, kick and move constantly and generally make everyone miserable. Everyone except for the self-centered peice of shit parent of theirs that couldn't give a shit that their child is unhappy just as long as they see what they want to see. |

One more thing to add.
Why don't movie theaters refuse admittance to small children in adult movies? Stupid question I know. They can make an extra copuple of bucks per showing by pissing everyone else off. When I saw Return of the King some dumb bitch behind me had three kids with her. I'm guessing they were between 4 and 8. They were literally rolling up and down the aisles, running up the steps, climbing on the seats and talking loudly to each other. I turned around and looked at her a few times, attempting to gently let her know that this was a problem. Everytime she looked away. So I went to the lobby and told an usher. When I came back she had them all sittng still for the first time. The usher followed me and told her that they received a complaint about the kids. She said they weren't doing anything. After he left she yelled at them and told them: "See, I told you someone would complain!" like I was the asshole! I turned around and told her that she was damn right I complained. Shortly after that she drug the kids out and left. I don't blame the kids at all. They re doing what they do. Its the stupid assholes that take them to movies in the first place that should be beaten. |

True Story:
I went to see SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER AND UNCUT with a friend. We sat down in the middle of the theater and waited for the trailers to start, when this guy walks in with three kids. THREE of them! Must have been around ages 8, 6, and 4. The entire theater went off on him. He left pretty shortly thereafter with his kids. The problem with parenting is that any idiot with the ability to procreate will do so, but they won't learn responsibility in the time of it. And the big kicker is that nobody can tell them they are wrong except DFS ( the government), which is a mess anyway. Last edited by jeo4; 12-30-2004 at 04:09 PM.. |

I'm curious how a kid got into A Dirty Shame since its rated NC-17. NC-17 is strictly enforced at every theater in my area. if you are under 17, you do not get in, no matter what.

It was a little kid (in A Dirty Shame) like less than a year. I guess the asswads at the theater figured the kid wouldn't get it anyway so they let them in. I love how these people don't give a damn about pissing everyone off in the theater just so they don't offend one douche bag.
jeo4, that reminds me, I forgot to mention the six and eight year olds (I'm guessing here, I didn' t ask) in attendance when I saw Team America. Everyone looked at the guy that brought them in and he was completely oblivious. They stayed for the whole thing. |

Yeah really young loud kids can be pretty annoying. I mean christ what are trash cans in the lobby for? Stick your kids in there where they belong. Or pinch them between the street fighter machine and the wall and come pick them up after the movie.

there is a theater not too far from where I live that has free child care during movies. Not sure how much I'd trust it though. And THIS was the place where some dumb bitch brought her little kid to see "Saw"!
There is another theater that wil not allow ANY children under 5 in for any feature. No exceptions. Its an old movie house built in the 30s with only one screen. Obviously they don't show many kids movies, but they do show all the Harry Potter movies and no one under 5 for those either. Its a great place, but no stadium seating. |

I was just thinking that child care would be a good idea, but I, too, have my doubts that it could be trusted.
Pay the girl next door ten bucks to watch your stinky kid for a few hours. |

I really do not know how to justify the past from the present, but times have changed and there are some children who are the exception and can watch these movies as well as behave while watching them. I only find myself annoyed by the ones who bring infants or the screaming squirmers. If I do see a well behaved child of a young age (which is rare) in a R rated movie it does not outrage me or make me shake my head.
I really could not ever do that. I have one of the best mothers on the planet, smart, loving and unconditional with her support and every Saturday she took me to see horror movies starting at the age of 3. I never misbehaved or got major night terrors and she never was looked at as horrible or abusive and anyone who would, I would have to yell at. Those Saturdays will forever be cherished memories for me and she was choosy. She did not take me to too many slashers. It depends on the situation I guess. |

I don't have a problem with 5-year-olds being taken to a movie like Saw.
I do have a problem with 5-year-olds being taken to a movie like Saw if they are shrieking through the whole thing. Parents: you know what your kid can and can't stand with a movie, and you also know if they are shrieky. If they won't be able to stand a movie like Saw, don't bring them, especially if they shriek. If they shriek in any movie, period, don't take them until they friggin' grow out of it! |

AAAAAAAAAAHHH!! LIttle kids piss me off when they do stuff like this. At movies, weddings, plays, performances, etc., little kids always decide its a good time to scream and it pisses me off!!! I totally agree with all the rest of you guys.

I would still take a theater full of 8 year olds over a handful of teens in a movie though.....at least the kids will shut up eventually (more so often then the teens seem to)

I remember seeing a sign outside an Orlando theater saying "parents the passion of the christ is rated R for STRONG GRAPHIC VIOLENCE AND GORE! please consider this before bringing in your 5 year old children" im not kidding thats exacly how the sign was printed. I dont care how religous you are, you should no way in hell take your kid to a movie were a guy gets his side ripped off by a cat-of-nine-tails i dont care if it was jesus or you just wanted to see Jim Cavezial get the shit beaton out of him. that shit WILL tramatize a child!!!!

I once had a guy my age with 2 kids obviously 8 or under in a movie. Now I don't remember what movie because I see so many. But I do remember it was packed and his kids wouldn't shut up or stop moving. Now I normally can control my anger but this time I let myself go. After having them act up for over an hour with nobody having the balls the actually say anything, and numerous looks from me which I know he saw and ignored I finally turned and said.... "I didn't pay 20 dollars for myself and my fiance to listen to your fucking kids for 2 hours." I know it might seem a little harsh, but it was all the anger that had been building for an hour. He didn't say anything and it was pretty awkward sitting next to him the rest of the movie, but inside I felt so much better, and he kept his kids quiet the rest of the time. Probably not so much because I yelled at him as he realized that they were probably not only disturbing me but numerous other people as well. After the movie I thought maybe he'd say something to me or meet me in the parking lot to discuss what happened, but he promptly shooed his kids out of the theatre obviously embarassed by their behavior. The sad part is he should have been embaressed that he brought them in the first place.

I don't have a problem with a parent wanting to take the kids to see a family movie, but too young is too young. If they can't sit still and watch the movie, then don't bring them until they are older. It's not only good parenting to prepare for this event, it's also common courtesy. It seems to be dying a painful death. And when people are smart mouthed about what they are doing wrong instead of patient and courteous, it only pisses me off more. Kids don't deserve to run ahead and save a spot for mommy and daddy. They can all walk in together and stay together. They don't need to be at an R-rated film. The content is inappropriate for children. And they sure as hell don't need to be at a 3-hour epic where they can/will certainly get bored and uncomfortable. As kids get older, maybe (just maybe) they can handle a little more responsibility and more grown up content. It's one thing to see a movie with a few dirty words and comic moments in it. But to take them to see some gangland movie with murder and excessive violence is every bit as irresponsible as taking them to see porn. It's not appropriate.

When I was a kid, I went to the theater owned by the local parish.
They never showed "bad movies" and even when you were old enough to watch the show, the priest "patrolled" the place to see if there was someone too young of if couple were kissing. Better than every rating system. ![]() |

We have a different rating system to you guys up in the States but it is still possible for adults to get their kids into movies that they really shouldnt be seeing. However i get so frustrated when u go to see a flick and you are stuck between kids that just dont shutup or stop eating the whole time...

I went to see The Incredibles, and boy oh boy.
Here in Iceland we dub animated films in Icelandic for the kids, and also show them in English. I went to see the movie at 20.00, and the icelandic version of the same movie was showing at the same time. I thought that would guarantee me a room that didn't have little kids talking out loud about what the hell happened to them in kindergardten. Plus those son of a bitch parents that just let the kid ramble on forever. Bastards |

i went to a very fancy one screen theater a week ago (its about 15 a person) and when i walked i saw 5 seats incased in glass with toys in it. the glass was soundproof and it had what looked like home theater speakers in there. now why cant other theaters do the same thing? i mean how expensive could it really be?

The pines theater in houghton lake michigan. its completely made out of pine and next to the screen are two beutiful nature paintings. that are lit before the show and turn off during the show. the sorround sound in that theater seams to be better then any other theater i have been in. the whole theme to the theater is nature and the great outdoors. only problem is that its not stadium seeting but im tall so that doesnt bother me. for more info check out this link.
