The Invisible Man is the film adaptation of H.G. Well's classic horror/sci-fi novel. On a snowey night in the British country, a strange man who's wrapped in bandages arrives in a Bar/Inn requesting a room. They let him in, but the owner becomes angry when he finds the man performing experiments in the room. It turns out that the man's name is Griffin, and he's a scientist. While working on an expirment, he turned himself invisible, hence all the bandages. Once the townsfolk find out about him, he goes on a murderous rampage.
Now this is a classic film! The Invisible Man is perfect in every sence of the word. The acting, the script, the directing, all flawless! First, the acting. Claude Rains is absolutly brilliant as mad scientist Griffin. He can go from nice and calm to psychopathic in seconds! He was the perfect choice to play the role. The script is another great aspect of the film. The script plays homage to the novel, and it defanilty helped the film. It can also be very funny at times, such as when the inn keepers wife is scared shitless by Griffin. James Whale presents the film with such a great atmosphere. The scenes where Griffin is fully invisible, and talking to his scientsit friend are so suspencefull , becase you don't know if Griffin is going to kill him, or if he is truly his friend.
Once again, this is a horror/sci-fi classic, plain and simple. If you read the book, and have not yet seen the film, you will not be dissapointed, in fact, I believe that the film is much better than the book! Exellent leading man, great script, and awesome directing by Whale make this film completly flawless. Another Universal masterpiece!
