I'd like to BITCH about TV Propaganda NONSENSE!

So I'm at work having a discussion with a co-worker (who's a friend of mine too at work here) in regards to the city of Phoenix where I live, having this water crisis, where they're taking precautionary measures because they "say" it's contaminated because of the recent drought we've had, coupled with the most rain we've gotten in over 2 years... I'm not overly positive on all the details, but I was complaining to her that it's COMPLETELY asisine that our company here should haveta turn off the water, so they won't get their asses sued by a few no-life mother fuckers who have nothing better to do....

So that ultimately leads me to my point... I am SO fucking sick of how this gaddam country (america) enjoys SCARING the living HELL outta the mindless sheep that watch their TV news telecasts and what not... I NEVER watch the news, cuz it's never "new" and it's all negative (or at least 95% of it is) and I've got better things to do with my fuckin time than to digest the HORSE-SHIT that the media in this country tries to feed to the mindless hordes who tune-in each and every day... I was telling her that it's fuckin PATHETIC, and I KNOW that this "let's turn the water off" bullshit is only PRECAUTIONARY, to which my co-worker agreed "it's better to be safe than sorry"... Which I totally DISAGREE with... It's blowing it WAY outta proportion, which america and the news LOVES to do on a consistant basis... I told her I would rather take my chances and DRINK the fucking water, then haveta put up with this shit... To which she replied "Tell that to the parents of this young kid who died drinking bad water from a well" and I told her "see, you're just buying into the nonsensical fuckin propaganda that's been fed to you, thinking that ANYONE or EVERYONE who drinks the fucking water, will die, and it's BULLSHIT!"

This is when she got pissed off at me and said "don't tell me why I watch the news, you don't know why I watch it!" and then I posed this question to her: "Linda, if there was NOTHING but positive human interest stories on the news each day, would you watch it"? and her reply was "No!" and I said "I rest my case..." but then she stated that I was awfully cynical for a 22 yr old, to which I replied "Not cynical, realistic"... People WATCH the fucking news NOT because they wanna see some grandma who just turned 143 slop some fuckin baby food in her gullet at her birthday party, NO! They watch it cuz they want to hear the negative bullshit, they WANT to be scared... they WANT to see which colour the terrorist alert is at today! yippee!!

After I stated the REAL reason why people watch the news, she just turned around pissed off, KNOWING that what I said was correct... It's fucking NONSENSE, and I'm fuckin sick and tired of being fed empty bullshit propaganda like this, even when I'm NOT watching the news... Fuck the media, fuck the news, and fuck this place!

Well said. I agree with you, this was actually what my grade 12 speech topic was about.

I agree too. I havent watched the news in a loooong time because of it. I read the newspaper to get my news, or news updates on yahoo or whatnot. And even with those thats mainly negative news.

But yeah, I quit watching the news when they actually said one night "Tonight at 11, Something in your house right now may kill you, find out what." I said "alright, thats enough of this bullshit." and havent watched the news since.

I dont understand how they can get away with it.

Of course the news is negative and uses scare tactics. How else would it get ratings?

The point of ratings isn't relative really... I mean it's a given people wanna see death, destruction and be scared in this fuckin country... It just disgusts me that these hoardes of sheep gobble this shit up, and ask for fuckin seconds and thirds.... It's just the whole concept of negativity/news and it's affects on the masses in general, when you've got the sheep BEGGING to be slaughtered you know there's something REALLY fucked up going on... it's really fucking digusting...

I agree as well. But, the only real good side to the news (sort of veering alittle off topic) is one super hilarious news story. A man apparently came home to find a distraut, naked man in his house. He fucking vacated (the home owner that is) and called the cops. Cops had a K-9 unit with them and the man still couldnt be talked down, so they let the dog loose on him. The dog bit off the man's DICK AND ONE BALL. I got to see a news castor say "severe lacerations of the penis" and see the head line "man gets penis bitten off by police dog, more at 11". Other than that, the news is pretty much worthless, unless I need the lotto numbers.

i must admit when I first lived in the states for a while I was sitting watching fox news for an afternoon and had to phone my girlfriend at work to ask if it was real. i genuinely thought it was a spoof.

Its truly hilarious, but less funny when i realised that nobody else i spoke to seemed to see the joke.

god or freedom?

your kinda touching a huge problem, that's becoming a story here in america.

More or less the TV news decides what it shows you or what the associated press passes on. Many small stories of crime and other problems are squashed by local media, leading or reporting with stories that follow a accepted point of view. Movies are the same way.

the media can motivate you through showing one side of a story.

Good example is how Howard Stern came out hard against Bush in the last election, every news station covered it. The product being that christians in huge numbers came out to vote for Bush. Christian rights groups for years have banned and blacklisted companies that disagree to their moral standerds, and Howard Stern is on the top of their list.

Really it seems quite easy to see, the media brang out the devil to bring support to the opposition and manipulated everyone. Just proves to me that america is not a democratic society, just a kingdom under the chrurch. Isn't that what America fought so hard against, religious persecution?

I know I'm really off topic, but something i just wanted to add

I don't watch local news. I prefer national news. Even then, it's rather iffy at best. I can get weather on the Weather channel and news on stations like CNN, Fox News and MSNBC. And at least I don't have to hear how my home town is allegedly connected to the entire known universe.

GREAT RANT!

Jon Stewart did a segment on this just last week. It was hilarious.

Oh, the creme de la creme of sensationalized non-events...

Y2K, anyone?

I agree with you. But everyone in some way or another is influenced by the media, whether it be subtle or extreme. And while we'd all like to admit that's not true, it is. Even you with your profound "know it all" have been influenced by the media and you always will be.

This tactic of using fear, as well as many other tactics they use, is nothing new. They've been doing it for years and years now. My point basically is you call these people blind sheep when you're really no better. You shouldn't be so cynical about all this and begin name calling. Being cynical all the time will only lead to more problems. True, you can't trust what see or hear but that doesn't mean you should tune it out. And you surely shouldn't begin to think everything they say it total bullshit. You should simply question what they say, print and do. If you question it, you can uncover the truth, if you sit back and call bullshit 24/7 you're no better than the brainless sheep.

Does for me, but I certainly don't expect it to work for everyone. It's a personal choice I made after learning my lesson regarding all of the 9/11 coverage. Sure, 9/11 was (so far) the most important event of my life, but even psychologists have said that the amount and types of coverage that the masses were subjected to caused a lot of damage.

My family (Fox News addicts) told me when the Indonesian tsunami hit - they had coverage blaring out of their TV 24/7. Me, I went into NOAA's site and checked it out. I donated, then moved on. I feel bad for the victims, but I don't want to become one myself.

I totally understand your point. It is a personal desicion and I did it for a while myself but it never seemed to work with me (maybe cause I like to prove everyone wrong in regards to the media). And personally, I can't blame anyone for withdrawing from media.

Me, I can't ignore the news just because I work for a nationally broadcast TV station - and have for two years. Before this gig, I used to work for a local TV station in Virginia. I work in TV production, behind the scenes stuff.

While I'll agree that news media does tend to cover more violent and unpleasant stories of the world, there are other aspects to it: 1)general information: the station I used to work for covered stories such as pot holes in streets, what causes them and what it takes to fill them up, 2)the weather: if there's snow or ice coming my way, I'd like to know about it - TV news keeps those kind of reports up to date, 3)traffic jams - local stations go to great lengths to give up to date reports on what streets and highways are backed up during rush hours, 4)and TV news (local or national) is a great source for finding out what's going on in politics, the economy, social events, and even sports.

Hell, ESPN can be considered a news network. Sportscenter is more centralized in its news topic, but sure. It has covered sports violence (sports brawls) and sex (it ran pieces on the relationship between sex and sports for an entire week once).

Now, people in this forum are right - news stations do try to beat out their rivals in search of a "great story," and most of the time piss people off in the process. There are assholes in the business that think they're God's gift to reporting and are just looking for an Emmy and Pulitzer Prize. But they're not all or always like that.

And believe it or not, there are people who watch the news looking for the violence and to see who's been raped, killed, kidnapped, or abused. They're the same people that watch "Cops" and "Jerry Springer."

Give us a little credit, please. The stations I've worked for take themselves seriously in relating information to the public. Most of the time, the competition is how to relate that information. We do care about viewership because that's what gets us advertisers and that is what pays the bills. And as much as we try to avoid it, we can be biased - we're human, sue us.

(By the way, I do not watch the local news; I barely pay attention to what goes on at work. Most of the time, it just doesn't interest me.)

Funny that you say that, after hearing someone try to tell me about the book of Mathew. What i would say to you is to them, as i am just concerned for these christians. As they are lead by idiots...

says for everyone to hear that 'as a man you need not know the lord's work only have faith'. One thing some of the christians seem not to have especially the priests. Constantly questioning everthing and trying to place there own bigotry of gay as of recent, but sure they are not alone. noor are the ignorant ones to carry their swords

To the priiests in general:
if you don't like gays, aryans, or jews keep it to yourself and out of religion and don't bring everyone to down with you

I'm duckier with all my decisions in life... are you? cause maybe the priests should go to wearing the white cloaks instead of black

Here's a little defination of a Aryan for all the fockers priests:
Indo-Iranian
It is one of the ironies of history that Aryan, a word nowadays referring to the blond-haired, blue-eyed physical ideal of Nazi Germany, originally referred to a people who looked vastly different. Its history starts with the ancient Indo-Iranians

It's basically someone that is arabic and european decent

PS: most of these comments are at ignorants priests not you boombche_stum

I never said they were deviant. I just said they exist and watch the news to see who was killed and how.

And I'm currently working for the news organization.
