After a steady rise to the top and claiming the spot for 2 weeks, THE PACIFIER has been dethroned by Nicole Kidman's language skills in THE INTERPRETER. The Sydney Pollack directed thriller lost only 21% of its interest over the weekend, to jump up one spot to the top with $1,317,374, sending the film to a total of $3,644,236 (US $41,901,964). Vin Diesel's dometic ways dropped 40% for a good hold at #2 with a 5 week total of $9,582,191 (US $110,177,450), now the third highest grossing film of the year. Entering at #3 was the well publicised and reviewed comedy/drama IN GOOD COMPANY, which picked up a neat $993,441 (US $11,422,731). Horror outing THE AMITYVILLE HORROR saw a relatively low drop of only 24% in its second week as it held in the Top 5 with a further $763,630, taking the Ryan Reynolds flick to $2,186,595 (US $25,141,792). SAHARA continues to hold well for McConaughey and co. as it slipped a minor 23% this week. After 3 weeks in play the adventure has accumulated $4,178,549 (US $48,045,574). Unsurprisingly, the Michael Keaton thriller WHITE NOISE made little impact in the charts, debuting at #7 with an underwhelming $669,266 (US $7,695,319). Another new entry failing to make waves was the Aussie comedy THE EXTRA which continued the tradition of under-performing local made productions. Starring comedian Jimoein and super-model Kristy Hinze, it scooped up $344,953 (US $3,966,320). Proving to be a bigger hit downunder than in the states, but still not even coming close to taking over the original, MISS CONGENIALITY 2: ARMED AND FABULOUS left the Top 10 this week after a 4 week stay. The Sandra Bullock lead comedy has scored a healthy $7,799,793 (US $89,683,174). The war drama DOWNFALL, the family comedy FAT ALBERT and the Aussie drama THREE DOLLARS all followed each other debuting at #12, #13 and #14 respectively, however it's Albert that flopped the hardest as the other productions didn't open as wide. The Cosby creation was dismissed with $185,157 (US $2,128,962) on its 121 screens, whilst, on 22 and 15 screens, respectively, Downfall ended up with $262,143 (US $3,014,159), and Three Dollars with $169,076 (US $1,944,060). Bringing their time on the charts to an end this week were Will Smith and Naomi Watts who simultaneously dipped 55% with their respective vehicles HITCH and THE RING TWO. The romantic comedy, which has enjoyed 8 weeks in play, will bow out with a stellar $14,016,222 (US $161,160,594), whilst the horror sequel sits comfortable with $5,306,210 (US $61,011,587) after 5 weeks.

THIS WEEK (April 28th): Kidman conceives controversy; We read the essential universal handbook; and Ice Cube picks up from where Vin Diesel left off.
