Why Is "Constantine" An Oops!?!
Last week, I was watching the E! channel's 101 Even Bigger Celebrity Oops! countdown, which ranked the biggest celebrity flubs that... well, weren't on the last Biggest Celebrity Oops! countdown. So I wasn't really having a problem with it until I saw what they listed as number 57, which was none other than the Keanu Reeves movie Constantine.
Now, it's not just that I myself liked the movie. In fact, I think Constantine had more style, spirit and brains going for it than it should have and I truly respect that, even though the movie's logic is a bit hard to understand. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. But I'm also angry about it because of their research on it. They say that Constantine was one of those movies where everybody hated it while, in fact, the good reviews for the movie nearly become half of the entire amount of reviews, as it is seen on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer, where it reads at 44%. To say that compares with the other films on the list such as Elektra and The Stepford Wives (now they deserve to be on the list) shows that the people who made this list obviously only looked at the majority of opinion and didn't look hard enough into it. Plus, the people who were commenting on it (you know the usual bunch for these specials-comedians, fashionistas, C-level actors, etc.) didn't seem like they knew much about it either and it altogether just ticked me off. So I'm starting up this thread for some of your own opinions on Constantine and/or these countdown specials. Please share! |

I think constantine suffered because they changed a LOT from the comicbook there by pissing off it's fans into being negative about it on the net (although the key change- that the characters are no longer british and it isn't set in england are bearable imo)
I dunno it had some cool scenes but it didn't really make sense in the end. And god should never have allowed John into heaven. He is a terrible sinner. And I hate the fact the hunger demon who was genuinely scary in the books was reduced to a bad cgi effect. Am I coming over as a pissed off fanboy? Better quit while I'm behind. And before I even get started on V for Vendetta. Meh. Edit: Tho if you liked the movie I'd strongly recommend checking out some of the trade paperbacks. Ones written by garth ennis are a good place to start. Last edited by JCR; 07-06-2005 at 07:28 AM.. |

Actually I quite like the posters for V. Never the less I worry that adapting a book that was essentially a critique of 1980's british politics may not make the best 2005 hollywood movie, what with the pretentious brothers in charge and all. But I do hope it'll be great. Hope springs eternal! |

I thought that the 101 Even bigger celebrity oops speacial was pointless. All it had were stupid celebrity moves that happened in the past year since the first Oops special. These are all stories we know.
In the first one, they had a lot of celebrity mistakes that I never knew about because they took place a long time ago. I thought those were interesting. Right after Tom's Oprah appearance, the guys at E! probably said they had enough for another countdown. I hope they don't do another one cause it would just be stuff that would happen in the next year. They did the first one right after Gigli, which I believe was number 1. Just throwing in my two cents. |
