Plot - Capturing the essence of the Halloween Carnival, 'Hellbent' follows four young men through a night where flamboyant costumes, beautiful people, drugs, music, dancing and sex are everywhere. Authentic footage from the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival lets filmgoers experience the most exciting night of the year.
MPAA Rating - Not Rated Running Time - 85 minutes Genre - Suspense/Horror and Thriller Rotten Tomato Critic Quotes (Average 55%): Because more time is dedicated to crafting authentic, sympathetic characters than the average horror movie, it's easier to overlook the film's often-corny dialogue and so-so special effects. "What you might not expect is that this queer-slanted slasher flick is actually pretty good." -- Chuck Wilson, L.A. WEEKLY "Aa hard-charging horror movie with a clever gay twist." -- Kevin Thomas, LOS ANGELES TIMES "Given HellBent's excellent characters, good scares, and irresistible energy, it's bound to entertain whether your date is of the same sex or otherwise." -- Brian Juergens, BLOODY DISGUSTING "Has both novelty and back-to-basics ingenuity in its favor, along with memorable characters and the deft combination of gory shocks and comic relief that's essential to the genre." -- Jeff Shannon, SEATTLE TIMES "[A] handsomely styled horror picture, which also makes a good-faith effort to differentiate among the victims-to-be before it starts picking them off." -- Maitland McDonagh, TV GUIDE'S MOVIE GUIDE "It's gore that gives more." -- E! ONLINE "HellBent is frank enough in its depiction of gay male sexuality to make many in the general moviegoing audience squirm and just self-mocking enough to make its target audience laugh." -- Jan Stuart, NEWSDAY I think this looks really quite good. I'm bisexual so the whole gay thing definetely doesn't bother me, it's kind of interesting, I wonder what they're going to do with it. It's been getting great reviews for a horror movie as well. This isn't going to be coming near me but I'll be checking it out on DVD for sure the day it's out! |

. . .even so, I don't see the harm in not wanting to see men kiss, if at the end of the day, it's just taking away from your personal entertainment (blood, naked chicks). In that case, doesn't sound like anything homophobic.
![]() Anyways, I'm glad a new thread on this was opened, because although the reviews aren't all sparkling, it's enough to interest me. Not to check it out, but to read more into it. Are there any schmoes that are going to be able to check it out and post their reviews? In the other thread arrow said he wasn't much interested, so I guess he's out of the running. |

The trailer made it look really cheesy and stupid, but not in a good way.
Still, I laugh at this part I read in Moviefan's post "Because more time is dedicated to crafting authentic, sympathetic characters than the average horror movie..." Runtime: 85 minutes Must spend a long time then huh ![]() |

I'm totally up for watching this. It looks absolutely cool!!!
(brief rant mode after reading other Hellbent sites) I find it sad that in such a relatively modern age, people feel the need to posture and pose in an attempt to try and promote heterosexuality. Its just a tiny bit sad that people'll watch films were heads are pulled off, people are assaulted and all manner of disgusting, horrific events are visited upon them - and yet they find two men kissing a far greater evil. If that isn't indicative of some deeply rooted insecurities, then I don't know what is... Maybe people like to moan, I just don't know. Why not judge the film based on the scriptwriting, camera work and all the other stuff that actually MAKES a good film. So what if some guys kiss? That's only a part of the movie - and I doubt all 85 minutes is crotch-grinding gay porn. (Lol, I so never envisaged my day ending with typing that sentence) I just don't get the machismo behind "Hohoho, boobs and lesbians" making a good film. I'm all for personal preference, but I'm totally lost when it comes to sub-par IQ cave-man syndrome... Later dudes! |
