Extreme Makeover decides not to use woman for program, so Sis kills herself.

Texas Woman Sues 'Extreme Makeover' Sep 21, 9:50 AM EST The Associated Press LOS ANGELES -- A woman is suing ABC's reality show "Extreme Makeover" for unspecified damages, alleging its decision to cancel her appearance contributed to her sister's suicide. In a lawsuit filed Sept. 9 in Los Angeles Superior Court, Deleese Williams, 30, of Conroe, Texas, claimed the producers subjected her to needless humiliation and goaded her sister, Kellie McGee, into insulting her appearance. Williams says a psychologist and numerous doctors told her she needed an "eye lift, ears pulled back, chin implant and breast implants." She was also told she needed dental surgery to break and reset her jaw for a successful "makeover," the lawsuit said. Just hours before the dental surgery was to take place, Williams was told she was being dropped from the show because the recovery time wouldn't fit into the schedule, the lawsuit said. Williams said she returned to Texas devastated. Four months later, her sister killed herself. "She knew that they could drop her at anytime, but she didn't believe they would," Williams' Houston-based lawyer, Wesley Cordova, said Tuesday. The lawsuit said McGee suffered from bipolar disorder, but Cordova said the show drove Williams' sister to kill herself. Williams is suing ABC and its parent company, The Walt Disney Co., for alleged breach of contract, willful infliction of emotional distress and negligence. "The most tragic part is that Deleese is now too ashamed to even go out in public," Cordova said. ABC said Tuesday that all participants know in advance that their makeover may not happen. "The ABC Television Network wishes to express its sincere condolences to Deleese Williams and her family for the loss of Kellie McGee," the company said in a statement. "In regards to `Extreme Makeover,' all participants are made aware that if doctors or producers have any concerns about a procedure, the makeover will not go forward. ... The producers endeavor to handle each potential makeover participant with the utmost care." Williams said she applied to "Extreme Makeover" in December 2003 and was selected to meet with producers in Los Angeles. There, Williams was videotaped recounting the ridicule she suffered as a child and her years in an abusive marriage to an ex-husband. Her lawsuit alleges that her husband and sisters were also interviewed and encouraged to make disparaging comments about her looks. ======================================== Last edited by TheDeadWalk; 09-23-2005 at 02:35 PM.. |

Did you read the article?
SHE didn't commit suicide. Her sister did, apparently because the show forced her to say mean things about her sister. Because she had bi-polar disorder, and the fact that the surgery didn't got through, she felt so bad about what she had said about her sister that she killed herself. And now, the person who was GOING to be on the show is suing ABC. |

Yeah, those shows are pretty exploitive.
Anything that hurts a trash show like this gets my vote. I don't mind make-over shit - Queer Eye is cool, because it's about feeling better, not just *not* being ugly. I think any show that tells people they should go to an "extreme" to look better deserves to pay out the ass. |

A wiser person than myself once said "Don't say what you don't want repeated and don't write what you don't want published." Smart words, especially in this case.

I am a man that cannot stand these bullshit reality shows and I've said it numerous times in the past. This particular show, which I think is one of the most f**ked up of them all just goes to prove my point.
They felt that they needed to motivate a woman through insults so that they're show could film an episode. So let's see: They attack a woman's self worth, reel her sister into it and DON'T EVEN HAVE HER ON THE SHOW to correct the insults that sparked the whole thing! I think they have grounds to sue the f**k out of ABC and I hope they win. This is similar to that JENNY JONES episode a few years ago when they had that homosexual man that had a crush on his neighbor come on the show and profess his secret crush. They plied both of them with liquor and pumped both of them up, just to get some f**king ratings. After the show, the homosexual man kept trying to push up on the neighbor, who said he wasn't interested and it continued on to the point that the neighbor killed this guy. What's it worth? Are people not fragile enough in a world as screwed up as this one? I'm about two JLo movies away from climbing into a tower and picking people off myself, so hearing things like this just make me wonder. What will it take to remove shows like this AND producers like the ones on that show? |

Never seen extreme makeover, but it sounds like The Swan, which was . . . well. . .
Go get em' Willians. But it doesn't sound like she's going to win. After all, I'm sure they mentioned that not everyone is going to be chosen, so there's really nothing she can do. They didn't break the law, didn't mislead (misleading isn't even grounds enough, I don't think). Good luck anyways. |

I hate the damn show no matte what ther story is.
Be happy with who u are, and if u want to change it then get out and do so...but do it without surgery, ect, ect. It wont last and when it fades they will just feel like shit all over again, regain the weight due to never having earned its loss in the first place, or fall back into whatever rut they were in before. Vanity will kill em. |
