There was blood spilled at #1 this week as scare sequel SAW II took top honours with a middling $1,756,929 (US $20,201,429). The launch beat the $1.10m of the original, was the 22nd best opening for the month of November, and the 26th best for the year. Remaining relatively smooth in its Box Office flight, FLIGHTPLAN only dipped 37% in its second week, bringing the Jodie Foster thriller to a neat $4,338,142 (US $49,880,598), now the actresses 9th Highest Grossing film in Australia. A trio of new releases filled out the remainder of the Top 5. Leading the way was Tim Burton's acclaimed animated comedy CORPSE BRIDE, which with $933,904, was far off from the director's previous outing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with $6.99m. Taking last week's Advance Screenings into account, the Johnny Depp/Helena Bonham Carter voiced flick sits with $1,204,314 (US $13,847,380). At #4 sat Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep who in their PRIME earned $721,268 (US $8,293,246), whilst the team up of Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz managed $642,985 (US $7,393,136) at #5 with THE CONSTANT GARDENER. Outback chiller WOLF CREEK had another soft decline this week, despite a 4 place drop, with only a 35% loss. 3 weeks in and the Nathan Phillips lead thriller sits healthy on $4,000,032 (US $45,992,959). Still riding on its strong word of mouth, and remaining in the Top 10 for its 6th week, IN HER SHOES sat on the edge of the top half of the charts with an accumulative total of $7,439,633 (US $85,542,001), making the Cameron Diaz/Toni Collette chick flick the year's #26 Highest Grossing film. Paul Walker and Jessica Alba had a massive decline this week, 73% to be exact, as their dive INTO THE BLUE loses its air supply. After 5 weeks in release, the John Stockwell helmed actioner has managed $2,879,044 (US $33,103,674). Making little impact on audiences and critics was the Richard Gere drama BEE SEASON which placed at #19 with an underwhelming $30,938 (US $355,729).

Here's the Top 20 films sitting at the Australian Box Office for the weekend Thursday the 24th to Sunday the 27th of November 2005.

(5) (4) PRIME
(6) (5) THE CONSTANT GARDENER

(19) (14) THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE
(20) (Advance Screenings) SHOP GIRL

A rather slow week at the Box Office this week, as the inclusion of two new movies in the Top 10 left the slightest ripple effect for the other major players. A soft launch of $1,149,547 (US $13,217,661) was enough to grant THE BROTHERS GRIMM bragging rights as it lead the way at #1. Off 42%, SAW II settled for second place in its second week as the sequel added $1,019,533 to its total, which now comes to $3,421,517 (US $39,341,108). Last week's new release trio of CORPSE BRIDE, PRIME and THE CONSTANT GARDENER all saw soft declines, making the most of a slow week. The Tim Burton comedy dipped 29% to a $2,153,799 (US $24,764,699) total, Uma and Meryl lost a small 16% of their audience, which has awarded the romantic comedy $1,635,558 (US $18,805,887) so far, whilst the Ralph and Rachel drama was pipped by only 7%, bringing its total to $1,519,996 (US $17,477,138). The B-Grade antics of THE CAVE surfaced at #9 with an expected low opening of $285,121 (US $3,278,363). Thanks to the Australian Film Awards being held recently and the incessant praise THE PROPOSITION and LITTLE FISH recieved, the two aforementioned films saw considerable rises over the weekend. The former Guy Pearce lead outback drama increased a solid 83%, whilst the Cate Blanchett thriller rose 40%. On the total side of things they respectively sit with $1,927,944 (US $22,167,785) and $3,460,689 (US $39,791,514).
