Guillermo del Toro might direct Halo

From what I've read from rumors over at IGN Filmforce and AICN, del Toro is basically just a contract away from directing Halo, as he's been courted by Universal and Peter Jackson for about 2 months now.

To be honest I don't think it's a very good idea. His film roster includes Mimic, Blade 2, and Hellboy. Haven't seen Mimic, Blade 2 was a romping good time but I thought Hellboy was an underwhelming bore that could have been a lot better. The guy certainly has a great visual eye, so then again me might be good for the job if the script is good. But then again he wants to finish Hellboy 2 first before production even begins on Halo, which I think is stupid. Universal and Peter should find somebody else who's top priority doesn't consist of a sequal to one of the more bland comic-book movies that have come out in the past few years.

And is it just, or does Guillermo del Toro look like a cross between Michael Moore and Peter Jackson?

As it is, Hellboy was one of the more succesful and popular comic-book movies. I for one loved it, and I know alot of other people did too. I'd really rather he put a lot of time and effort into Hellboy 2 and utterly forget Halo. Although he might be able to turn it into a saving grace rather than another lame video-game movie, I just don't care enough about a movie being made about Halo. It has to stop somewhere and the most cinematic of games don't need movie adaptation.

If Guillermo does Halo I would be one happy guy. Hopefully he will make room for Hellboy 2 and Halo.

I enjoyed both Blade 2 and Hellboy. But I don't think he would be right for Halo.

Um, he also did The Devil's Backbone which is one of the more quality ghost story movies I've seen in quite sometime. He just finished production its sequel "The Labyrinth of Pan" which will be out sometime next year.

Labyrinth of Pan

Also he has much more interesting work than Halo after Hellboy 2. I believe he's doing the film adaptation of "At The Mountains of Madness" which I am PSYCHED about!

And I LURVED HELLBOY!

I have a great respect for Del Toro, he REALLY fucking loves the movies that he works on and I find it utterly moving. He's a geek in every sense of the word and that's a compliment.

I think if you got him and Peter Jackson into a room together it would be ELECTRIC!

The Devil's Backbone was really good but Pan's Labyrinth isn't a sequel.

I must be the only one who doesn't think this guy is a good director. Blade 2 and Hellboy where above average, but not by much. I thought The Devil's Backbone was extremely overrated and really not that great at all.

Halo isn't a horror movie, so I can't see him getting really that passionate about it, especially if he doesn't get a chance to addapt the screenplay.

I say get fucking Paul Verhoven.

He's alright, I guess. But I really want Peter Jackson to direct Halo. It would be amazing if he did.

If he could make this as much badass as Hellboy, then I will be first in line for it.

Am I the only who thought Hellboy was alright, but nowhere near as awsome as most people seem to think it is?

Sorry got over-zealous. I meant sequel in a more liberal sense, because it takes place after the Spanish Civil War and Devil's Backbone took place during it and there's sort of a carrying over of the whole "children meeting supernatural chracters" storyline.

He may do a third one of these, like his own series.

I like Del Toro, I think he knows his craft very well. I enjoyed Hellboy. Did I think some aspects could have been better? Of course, but on the whole it was great. I am just worried about this because the success rate of video games to film has not been very good. The best of all of them is probably...oh the first Mortal Kombat? That's all I can think of right now and it wasn't great, not even close. I hope Del Toro can make something of it as the games are tremendous.

I think most people do think Hellboy was merely ok. But all things considered thats not that bad of a feat. Especially with picky as hell fan boys.

James Cameron is my #1 pick.

But, he will not direct this. Because, he's got his own sci-fi 200 mil budget spectacle coming up which I simply cannot wait for.

Battle Angel

and after he is making Project 880

I'd prefer that he do H.P. Lovecraft's At The Mountains Of Madness.
