mischief.mayhem.bollywood.
First it was oldboy.
Now it's... FIGHT CLUB !!!!!!!!! Fight Club goes bollywood. yes...and what is it called? ---> FIGHT CLUB! I was laughing when i saw the trailer. Just couldn't believe my eyes. I think it's just plain stupid. I'm not sure how similar the movie is going to be to the original classic, but from the looks of it, it has THE fight club which was the fulcrum of the original. And you can hear the words "WELCOME TO FIGHT CLUB". That kinda got my blood boilin'. The worst part is that the site where i found this following article, acts as though it's never heard of the original. They seem all excited about the movie. anywayz...i would absolutely love to hear from all o y'all at Joblo's...cuz...well, i think Fincher's Fight Club has 'bout a few handful of fans here. Click HERE ...for the article and trailer. Last edited by < a c e >; 12-15-2005 at 01:28 PM.. |

I wish the internet had existed in Japan when The Magnifiscent Seven had come out.
It's fucking India, man. India! I wish I could read Japanese just so I could cruise over to a fan site for The Grudge or The Ring or Dark Water just to see if there are people over there freaking out because they have this stark concern for the American movie market. And just another comment - But I think most people agree that THE fight club had very little to do with what made that movie so cool. For all we know, this new movie will just be a bunch of eastern Indians beating the hell out of each other, and nothing else. I seemed to miss the parts in the trailer that mimicked the root of Fincher's FC. |

meh, this idea is just as retarded as all these American remakes of classics and reamkes of recent Japanese/Korean/French/Chinese (etc) films.....they all pale im comparison to the originals and were not needed except for the lazy people who cant be bothered or just cant read subtitles

I totally understood and loved the deeper layers of fight club but i think the club had a vital role. Isn't it quite obvious? or have i not comprehended your statement? anywayz While i totally dug Pahlanuik's take on the 90s, I was very much attracted to the whole secret underground club thingy too. Besides, if the club had very little to do with what made the movie so cool, why would they name it "FIGHT CLUB"? |

It would be like if they remade a movie called POLICE ACADEMY, but there was no goofy characters or guy making noises with his mouth. It's a movie about a POLICE ACADEMY, but it's not the same. Palanchuck has stated himself that there were fight clubs in existance before he wrote the book, but maintains that this wasn't inspiration for the book, but actually the inspiration came from a series of fights he got into himself. Then when you search a bit for this Bollywood version, you find this kind of stuff - "Fight Club (2006) is an action comedy. It doesn't have actors bashing people with baseball bats every other moment. People related it to Hollywood's Fight Club when there is no relation between the two." http://www.hindu.com/mp/2005/03/23/s...2300940400.htm My whole stance on it, though, is that - Even if it was a remake... Who cares if India remakes one of our movies? Their culture is so different, but they do respect American films a lot. To me, there is nothing wrong with a culture opting a story as their own. America does it all the time, and some of our most loved were remakes of foreign films. |

After reading the article on your (bubba's) link, it seems as though there aren't many similarities. But the trailer was a little misleading, I think i'm gonna watch this space. I'm still a little skeptical about it. Anyways, let's see.

if you can stomach song/dance sequences: LAGAAN (oscar nominee for best pic in a foreign language) COMPANY(<--based on a true story...only 1 bar-song sequence) DIL CHAHTA HAI(<--a cool contemporary movie) SWADES(<---from the director of LAGAAN) SARKAR (inspired by The Godfather...but very much Indianised) LAKSHYA "D"(<--no songs) PAGE 3 BLACK(<--no songs...inspired by the helen keller story...a MUST WATCH) NOTE: BOLLYWOOD is an acquired taste. NOT suitable for all. There is this misconception that bollywood IS the Indian film Industry, but it's not true. There are more than 10 industries in India classified under different languages and territories. I suggest you watch it in this order: BLACK COMPANY SARKAR D LAKSHYA DIL CHAHTA HAI LAGAAN SWADES PAGE 3 |

Thres a pretty big difference between Bollywood remakes and The Magnificent Seven. Plus, Kurosawa was a big fan of The Magnificent Seven. |

just to add:
Correct me if I'm wrong...when hollywood studios remake foreign movies, they buy the rights. I don't think that the remake of 'oldboy' in bollywood (ZINDA) is a legal copy. Ofcourse I'm not gonna talk about the the bollywood fight club as it seems to be a little different. By the way, a few more bollywood copies: ek ajnabee - man on fire meri yaar ki shaadi - my best friend's wedding hum tum - when harry met sally |

Don't get me wrong - I totally know what you are getting at, but I don't know if you know what I'm getting at. Just because Indians like their movies singing and dancing, and Americans like their movies set in the old west - I don't see how it matters if a movie is adapted to fit another culture. Quote:
Thanks for the recommendations, first off. I don't know about the buying of the rights. Like I said, I'm not even that knowledgable about Indian movies, I'm just going by how I few remakes into other cultures, and little more. To me, if it's good enough for one place to do it, it should be good enough for somewhere else -- even if that somewhere else makes it... Well, I've seen The Simpsons lampoon Bollywood, so I know that much. It would be good for all filmmakers to get approval from their inspiration - no doubt I agree with that. |
