Hostel? that's cake compared to other 70's Italian stuff.

I'd say either:
Salo
Cannibal Holocaust
or....
'The Grim Reaper' (uncut)

The Ebola Syndrome is supposed to be fucking ridiculous in the gore department. Check out the screens in this review. It's a Category III flick, and it's a black comedy. It's only ten bucks on Deep Discount DVD, and mine's on the way. Anyway, in terms of sheer brutality, I'd have to say Cannibal Holocaust. The spike scene gives me chills whenever I see it.

*edit*

Can't forget to mention the Guinea Pig flicks. I've never seen any, but I've heard they're pretty nasty. I want to box set, but I'm not sure if I want to plunk down the money. And I downloaded Shogun's Sadism last night (which I hear is pretty nasty), and I'm going to give it a watch tonight.

*edit 2*

Gah. Forgot to mention Kichiku Dai Enkai. It didn't live up the hype, but it's still pretty nasty. The highlight is when the main girl gets a shotgun blast RIGHT in her cooch.

Wow! I wanna see the Ebola Syndrome. Looks insanely gory and it features Anthony Wong I love this actor !!

I suggest another asian import Riki-Oh :The Story of Ricky. Really cheesy & funny prison gore fest that's more in the style of Toxic Avenger and Braindead.

The Guinea Pig series are a good suggestion. My recommendations for those (as far as gore is concerned) is probably "The Flower Of Flesh and Blood" or "Mermaid In A Manhole".

"The Flower..." has fantastic dissection scenes that don't cue the camera away for a second, and "Mermaid" has some of the best festering boils I've ever seen.

And as Dirtyfrog mentioned, Riki-Oh :The Story of Ricky is also another great one.

Oh, and did you guys really think Cannibal Holocaust was that gorey? I mean I love the movie...but I don't like when they show you awkward camera angles to hide some of the FX flaws and such (for instance the whole butchering scene at the end...I suppose I just wish they would have had a better close up for that).

I haven't watched it for awhile though. I may just have to give it another view, maybe my opinion will change.

Kichiku: Banquet of the Beasts or Naked Blood. The Asians can really make 'em nice and juicy.

however...

The ultimate 'nasty' in my opinion is Subconscious Cruelty. This movie seems to have only been created to mar the soul with sequence after sequence of 'What the f***!' images. I paid over $100 for my copy and it is extremely rare. I showed it to a friend of mine who is a hardcore gorehound and after viewing it he said he wished he hadn't seen it. It's truly messed up. One sequence involves Christ being raped and killed by demons.
You see it, and you're damned.

yeah. I've got a real flair for the melodramatic. It's serious stuff, though. The August Underground stuff is pretty sick, too. The thing with Subconscious Cruelty, is that it's really hard to imagine what the film's going for. I imagine it's just trying to be the most blasphemous thing ever committed to film. In that, it may have succeeded.

I remember having a discussion about "Subconsious Cruelty" on the "upcoming Horror" section of the boards and the members had quite the debate.
I also remember reading an interview by the director and he came off like the most pretentious man to ever direct film. "The eloquence of the movie is the hatred within man's soul while the evil allows despair... yadda yadda yadda". He talked that way for the whole interview.

From what I have seen it may be Lucio Fulci's beyond. It definitley has the most REAL looking effects. It's just about the only movie I look at where I am convinced the gore could have actually happened. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Das Komabrutale Duell is getting a DVD release from Unearthed Films soon. The same guys who put out the Guinea Pigs, Aftermath, and Red Room.

As for Subconcious Cruelty, I liked it. I felt as if I was watching somebody's nightmare that had somehow been captured to film. It really has that dreamlike feel to it.

Planet Terror & Haute Tension

So far I have watched his:

The Great Yokai War (2005)
Three Extremes (2004)
Ichi the Killer (2001)
Visitor Q (2001)
Audition (1999)

I thought Audition and Ichi the Killer were the goriest, especially the original Japan version.

I think Bijo no harawata (aka Entrails of a Beautiful Woman or Guts of a Virgin 2) is supposed to be in the list.

With lots of sex-related gore turning my stomach inside out, the Japanese flick included a huge penis that has sharp teech which really reminded me of Alien's tougue (there was also a similar scene with chest buster scene).

It's almost unfair to list some of the newer CGI stuff, so I'll keep my list organic:
Braindead is the king.
Premutos is an awful awful movie, but there's quite a bit of organic gore.
The Beyond / City of the Living Dead - So much good stuff between these two.

I dont see how Hostel is not gory, but it is almost nothing compared to Italian horror/splatter flicks like House by the cemetery or Cannibal Ferox.

SPOILERS for House by the cemetery

The neck impalement of the realtor chick in HBTC was gruesome as fuck, you see a spear twisting around her throat with blood squirting out in full view. Pretty nasty the double murder of Bobs parents at the end is pretty brutal too

from what i understand it was done intentionally so that while the amount of gore onscreen was completely over the top it never actually looks real

House by the Cemetery was pretty damn gory, i could never get past the oh so very fucking annoying kid though, all i could think about during that film was how enjoyable it would be to strangle it

Miike is awesome!!

Audition (uncut) & Ichi the Killer were great. There's also another flick called Living Hell, directed by Shugo Fujii. It's not really gore, more like a torture flick similar to Audition.

While I didn't care for Audition as a whole, yes, the infamous ending scenes are great. Skip everything else and go to the ending!

I highly recommend The Red Shoes. Gore from the start and all through the movie. Plus it's a terrific movie in of itself. Also, Bloody Reunion is a good one.

God I hated that kid... And every time you thought he would die...

For gore? Any Fulci, Ricki-Oh, BasketCase, Gore-Gore Girls(or any Lewis flick)

And the gore in Ichi the Killer? CGI Blood in some scenes, most unfortunate.

Mucha sangre.

There's a scene in that movie that involves a chainsaw and an alien that can regenerate its limbs. Similar to Dead-Alive but with a bit more gore.

One of these below...

Salo or 120 Days of Sodum
or...
Cannibal Holocaust
or...
Cannibal Ferox
or...
Zombi 2 (Its really called Zombie but they re-released it so they're both the same film)

Thats all I have so far. Personally I have no idea why people think Hostel is so gory. It's actually hardley gorey at all.
