its 853 Dvds total, and wow how much did I think it cost me probably more than a new car thats for sure I used to be an assistant store manager for a blockbuster so a lot of them I got for free probably 200-300 as we would do contests where we would get store credit and we would order Dvds from our distributor and buy the dvds with our credits (i could figure it out since I always kept track in DVD profiler but it would probably take me an hour to figure it out) but still at 500 dvds with an average price of $15 thats $7,500 theh add in the 100 season dvds at average price of $30 thats another $3,000 so i'd say $10,000+ |

as of today I own 863 dvds, 204 of them were either gifts, bonuses from work, or my wifes dvds (she owned like 40 when we mingled our collections) so of the 659 dvds I actually paid for it cost me $9497.03 plus tax of course for a grand total of $10,090.59 which isn't too bad. %20 off discounts helped me keep it pretty low as well as buying a lot of previously viewed movies and always buying movies the first week to get the sale prices, |

I figure this is as good a place as anywhere to make a first post, considering how much money I've spent on these shiny lil discs over the years
Most of 'em have been brought between the start of 2000 and the end of 2005, 'cause since moving "into the real world" as the parents call it, my spending power has been somewhat eaten away, due to rent, council tax, utility payments etc.. Still at the moment I'm saving up for either the complete Buffy the Vampire Slayer collection, or the complete X-Files collection, so it aint all bad ![]() I suppose it goes without saying, based on these pics, but my digital camera is a old piece of garbage, which is why hardly any of the pictures come out any good - this one shows two of the "bigger" boxsets - the R1s of ET - The Ultimate Collection, and Spider-man 1, as well as my Harry Potter books, dvds and some other lil bits of memorabilia (I used to have quite a few Kubricks, but I sold 'em off to a friend not long after moving) The following images, are of my TV shows, and are all in the same bookcase The "blank" dvds, are shows that I've recorded off the tele (The first thing I brought once I'd cobbled a few pounds together after moving was a Panasonic DMR-EH50 HDD / DVD-Recorder, which has saved me a small fortune on dvd purchases) - on this particular image, the ones I've recorded are: - Extras Series 1&2, Entourage Series 1, The IT Crowd Series 1, Lost Series 1 & 2, My Name is Earl Series 1, Phoenix Nights Series 2, Max & Paddys Road to Nowhere. For some reason, it seemed important to keep all the Tv shows in alphabetical order, I think it's because it's easy enough to do it with the Tv shows - but way to much effort with the films - the recorded ones on this shelf are : - Sleeper Cell, Sugar Rush series 1 & 2, The OC Series 1 - 3, Smallville Series 5, The 4400 Series 1 & 2, The West Wing Series 7, Weeds Series 1, and the first 11 episodes of The War at Home, Series 1 |

Next, for the movie boxsets:
The sets next to the Rocky Anthology are The George Romero Trilogy of the Dead boxset, and The Godfather collection - both originals, they just haven't come out that well, because of teh suckiness of the camera. The reason that the Antoine Doinel boxset is set aside, is because it was originally on display, along with some of the other boxsets, and when I took the pics, I hadn't put it back with the other Criterions that I've got (Which are the only other parts of my collection that are displayed next to each other) The idea behind the tower was to keep my fav. films together in one display (DVDs that are missing from the picture, and which are at the bottom of the tower are : - Donnie Darko (Directors Cut), Pi, Good Will Hunting, American History X,Taxi Driver,Batman Begins, The Usual Suspects, Saved!, Fargo, The Rock and The King of Comedy. |

And again...
The following six pics show a work of engineering genius mascerading as a cheapo attempt to display around 170 dvds without forking out for any shelves
![]() The DVD-R on the far left of the image has got Gus Van Sants "Drugstore Cowboy", and "Whatever Happened to Harold Smith?", which were recorded off the television. The three on the right of the image, which are a bit faded, are The Woodsman, Lemony Snickets A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Laurence of Arabia (As with some of the boxsets, 'cause they've got dark coloured sleeves / artwork, they don't expose well with my camera) The DVD-R has got "High Fidelity", and "Pecker" on it, as with the DVD-R from a few pics ago, they were both recorded off the tele. Here's a pic of 'em all lined up together, from the top of the table they're on, to the top of the last dvd, it's around 140cm in height, I really can't line 'em up any higher, 'cause I'm only around 170cm in height myself ![]() ![]() |

And again...
These are the vast majority of my Warner Bros. "Snapper cases"
These are my Criterion Collection dvds Some of the Criterions shown in the previous pic, as well as a few other dvds that are also on that particular shelf, and which will have to be moved, once I put the Antoine Doinel boxset back amongst the other Criterions. I've had to take the remainder of these pics with my Mobile phone, as on my Digital Camera, you can't really see anything. On this pics there's the obligatory "ViewAskew DVDs" - I'm hoping to add Clerks 2 and An Evening with Kevin Smith 2, to that batch. The picture alsoshows the last remaining Warner Bros Snapper Cases. ![]() |

And finally...
At the moment I've only got two of the Lord of the Rings films - I'm hoping to get all of 'em in extended editions, for around £10 - Fellowship and Two Towers have so far cost me £6, thanks to the joy that is Cash Converters (In essence, a pawn shop). The 4 above the Rings films, are different Terminator films.
The two that are "tucked up the corner", after the R1 Forrest Gump, are "Linkin Park - Frat Party at The Pankake Festival", and The Unsaid. There's also another shelf, but because it's down towards the bottom of the bookcase, I can't get any decent images of it, because there isn't enough light. All in all there are 632 DVD titles, though I'm not sure as to how many discs (I'd say around 1100 at a guess). God only knows how much they've cost me over the years, but like georgiasam said back on the first page - if I hadn't spent it on DVDs, I probably would have wasted it on other things, and in all honesty I'm glad I did buy 'em while I had the chance, as now I appreciate 'em even more ![]() As for additions? Well, I don't exactly have the disposable income that I had while I lived with the 'rents, but I'm hoping to buy either the complete Buffy the Vampire Slayer collection, or The complete X-Files collection (at the moment I'm leaning more towards Buffy and Co. rather than Mulder and Scully), and aside from the forthcoming "Viewaskew" dvds, the only other "bigish" dvds I'm hoping to buy (in terms of cost etc) are Seinfeld Series 4 onwards, and the 5th Series of 24 - oh and the Dead Like Me sets, if I can find 'em cheap enough. Apologies again for the bad picture quality -'tis an old phone and an even older camera . |

Couple of comments, it looks like you have a pretty cool collection but you should invest in some way to display them, trust me you'll be a lot happier after you have a cool way to store and display them.
And ewwwwwww how do you keep all your snappers together, that would drive me insane. I have been slowly transfering all my snappers into keep cases. I go to www.cdcovers.cc, which has really high scans of dvds covers in the keep format size and then I take them to a professional printer (costs me about 75 cents per cover) and have them printed out in the best quality on the best paper. Then I put them in keep cases. Its nice I have converted like 20-30 so far but I am running low on amrays and don't want to buy anymore (I used to work for a blockbuster and took home like a couple cases of them at one time or another as we just threw them away once we put them in our own lock cases but if I buy a movie from a pawn shop or previously viewed at Hollywood and the amray has been scuffed and treated badly I always replaced it with a new amray. But I got a friend in Vegas who still works for a Blockbuster and he's golng to see about getting me some more amrays. |

I'm currently looking into getting eithera couple of high quality bookcases or a display case for the dvds, 'cause at they're gettinga bit of a bad hand As for the snappercases- that's exactly why I decided to keep 'em together, 'cause they're so icky -though the idea of replacing 'em with keep case versions does sound like a winner- I'll have to look into that. |

It's not the best of quality, but here is the latest photo of my small-but-growing DVD collection, including the most recent additions:
![]() Hard to see some of the titles; the white case between Chicago and The Aviator (top level, rightmost square) is Brokeback Mountain, the orange case between Stand By Me and Magnolia (top level, second to right square) is Boogie Nights, the dark case between Being John Malkovich and 21 Grams (top level, second to left square) is The Shawshank Redemption, and the dark case between Minority Report and Blues Brothers (bottom level, second to left square) is Jurassic Park. |

I have a question for yall, how do you get the picture to appear in such large format on here. I tried it with some dvds I purchased, got the picks of amazon, on another forum and the pictures appeared smaller. I ask because I want the images to be see-able. Was it just the picture size of the images I got off of Amazon? If I take the pic myself will it be fullsized? (don't you just love digital)

You have a great collection yourself, Why only volume 3? Well, a lot of awesome dvds have been coming out lately, and I didn't feel like spending 200+ on Bond in the past few months, because I'm not that big a fan, but I will get them eventually. The dvds are pretty unorganized...I noticed Batman: SE and X-Men 1.5 aren't there for some reason. Once again, thanks for the compliments people ![]() And very nice collection Tarko...I dig the Eraserhead and Donnie Darko dvds you have there. ![]() |
