The Great Misdirect is good, but I thought they really peaked musically with Colors. This one is good, but dull in parts whereas Colors had me captivated the entire time. Maybe, it will get better for me in repeated listens.

The new Slayer album leaked and it's really boring. "Playing With Dolls" is an embarrasingly bad song.

[QUOTE=Powerslave;3132525]I've been listening to A Sun That Never Sets by Neurosis almost constantly for the past 24 hours and holy shit, this album is perfect

I mean goddamn, what an album. It's just so otherworldly, dark and grim but not oppressively so; just the right amount and in exactly the right manner. Every track evokes such strange and intense mental images, mostly of weird and foreboding landscapes: alien wastelands, gargantuan sandstorms, suns rising and setting (ironically) on massive deserts. It's epic and beautiful, and undeniably artistic but not in an obnoxious or self-conscious sense. It's the real deal.

Other stuff of this (admittedly broad) ilk that I've been listening to: Boris (including Altar and Sun Baked Snow Cave, need more though, the only other album I have is Akuma No Uta), Baroness (need to pick up Blue Record), Mastodon (need the rest, i.e. Remission and Blood Mountain), Electric Wizard, Bongzilla, Sunn, Fu Manchu, Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Kylesa, Torche, Orange Goblin, a few others.

[QUOTE]

Good taste there man, Iīve listened to lots of BORIS during this year, my favorites are "Dronevil" and "Rainbow". "Akuma no uta" is also killer, very addictive. NEUROSIS rules too of course, " A sun that never sets" has some of their best moments. Iīm trying to pick up some of Steveīs solo stuff, the songs that are on youtube are all pretty cool.

As for the playlist:
Maiden Powerslave & Fear of the Dark (10/10 both )
My dying Bride Symphonaire... 7/10
My dying Bride As the flower withers 8/10
My dying Bride A line of deathless kings 6/10
Fates Warning Inside out 8/10
Metallica Death Magnetic 7/10
Black Hole Land of Mystery 10/10
Reverend Bizarre In the Rectory 7/10
Nevermore Enemies of Reality 7/10 (I havenīt listend to it much but I dig the title song "...eat the worms of the enemyyyyye" and all)
Black Sabbath The eternal Idol 7/10

Thanks dude. Yeah, Akuma No Uta's definitely very addictive. When I first got it, I would listen to it straight through several times a day for like a week or two. That album was the soundtrack to my life for a little while. Rainbow I don't have, but I've heard it many times and it's indeed great. All their stuff is, and it's all so different. And there's so MUCH of it. I really want to get some more of their drone stuff, like Feedbacker, Flood, and Amplifier Worship.

The new Rammstein sold 22,000 copies in the U.S. to hit the 13th spot on the Billboard top 200. Pretty impressive for a metal band that doesnt speak English.

I thought the album was decent. There are a few good songs and some boring ones. The whole bonus CD is boring. I like the album as a whole but its my least favorite Rammstein album. Rosenrot took me a few listens to get into it, but I enjoy it now. I dont think the same will happen with the newest album. Reise, Reise is still my favorite album.

Ha, it's been a while since I checked in on this thread. Man, I've been jammin a lot of shit since I last was here.... Autopsy, Deicide, Megadeth, Cancer, Mortician, Gorguts... all great shit in my opinion.

I finally have the new Kreator album and it's fucking incredible, one of my favorites from them.

Right now I'm listening to Deicide's In Torment in Hell album. Ya know what? I fucking LOVE that album. I don't see anything wrong with it. It's heavy as shit and it's catchy and memorable too.

LOVE The new Between The Buried and Me CD... Swim to The Moon is Epic in ever sense of the word and Obfuscation is simply amazing. Great addition to their library, i still think White Walls is my favorite song by them.

Ive seen them in concert 7 times, and they are simply amazing, besides Metallica, they are my favorite band, both in general, and to see live in concert.. especially if you can see them at an intimate venue where you can stand inches from Tommy as he sings or Paul as he fuckin OWNS on the guitar!

I also bought the new Rammstein CD... i really enjoy it, and ant stop listening to Pussy, pointless song lyrically, but still amazing! The video is fuckin weird if you havnt seen it... its basically Rammstein in a porn video!

Cool . The title track is special for sure, the beginning is really great with these minimalist guitars and Martinīs vocals... I love TYR as well, I think itīs the best thing sabbath did since Sabotage for real. "Anno Mundi" is properbly my favorite Sabbath song without Ozzy. Cross Purposes Iīm not so familiar with, Forbidden was a bit of a mixed bag but I think having Tony Martin and Ice T on the same track is sort of neat. Whatīs your take on Born Again and Seventh Star?

Oh and in case anybody was not aware: Carcass was a band sent by god to replace jesus. "Necroticism" smokes hard, it was a damm influental album to be sure.

One thing I always liked about Eternal Idol was the tasteful use of keyboards. They're not over-bearing like on Headless Cross (a good album too BTW), they come in at the right time and never overstay their welcome. Whereas 70's Sabbath used keys to create a psychedelic effect, the ones on Idol sound ominous and threatening.

Born Again is real good, give or take a few tracks. Not all that crazy about "Digital Bitch" or "Keep It Worm", but "Disturbing the Preist", "Zero the Hero", those are totally evil songs. As for Seventh Star, it's a decent rock record, although I don't consider it a proper Sabbath album.

At first I really had no words for how I felt about Between the Buried and Me's Great Misdirect, but now that I've listened to it quite a few times I think it may be my choice for album of the year.

Its easily their most ambitious release to date, almost entirely abandoning their standard metal howls for much more diversity in vocals. I think if this would have been released as the second half of Colors, both titles would have benefited greatly in making it the must have record of the decade. But instead we get two very good albums just short of being masterpieces.

I just picked this one up today and listened to it. Absolutely fucking stellar! I don't know if it's as good as "Colors", but it's epic as hell. I really dug the hell out of "Fossil Genera...", but "Swim to the Moon" is the highlight. These guys keep progressing, but stay true to their roots.

I have yet to see them (ottawa sucks!), but they're playing in MTL soon so I think I'm gonna make the trek.

This is true. I can't imagine a HOF album without a monsterous guitar sound.

Oh yeah, Om has a new one out, God Is Good. It might make my top 10, if only for the fact that their music's so comforting. The new drummer is real good and the sound hasn't changed. Very consistant band.

Stuff

In a blatent display of copy and past, here's some Housecore Records news:

Quote:
*haarp has wrapped up recording their forthcoming full length for HCR .
*Warbeast is finishing up the mix on their record for their 2010 release
*Crowbar is releasing their 1st album for us; a live record being recorded November 20th in Houma, LA.
*Atlanta dirty Rock band, Red River Revival, is in Nodferatu’s Lair recording vocals for their upcoming HCR release.
FUCK YES on the haarp news. Those guys are lethal, do check out their EP's if you like sludge. The new Crowbar can't come soon enough, I was hoping for a release this year, but Kirk's a busy guy.

I've plugged this band here before, but I'll do it again cause their full-length has been out for a while, Dragged Into Sunlight: http://www.myspace.com/draggedintosunlight

Real nasty sounding shit. Dirty, sludgey, doomy blackend fucking metal.

Haven't done one of these in a while:

Black Sabbath - The Eternal Idol
High on Fire - Blessed Black Wings
Solitude Aeturnus - Through The Darkest Hour
Solitude Aeturnus - Adagio
Saint Vitus - Mournful Cries
Clutch - Strange Cousins From the West
Eyehategod - Dopesick
Post Mortem - Message From the Dead

I haven't listened to any NEW metal album recently coz i prefer old-school stuff but i like metal (speed-trash-death-black mostly ). Gorguts is a all-time favorite of mine.

It's all because of this nice story ....

Back in 93 at the peak of my "death metal" phase , i went to see a concert featuring Obliveon/Gorguts ( 2 "local" bands ) at Foufounes Electriques in downtown Montreal. I liked both bands & always considered them to be underated. What is out of the ordinary is 2 things that makes it a lifetime memory.

1-I was getting drunk while Obliveon was playing so i had to pee eventually. I go to the bathroom on the 2nd floor of the bar and while i am doing my deed , this guy next to me say "Nice tattoo dude !" and we chatted for 3-4 min. I was telling him that i couldn't wait until Gorguts goes up on stage and play my fav song of them " Innoculated Life " and such. We split and i go back to my friends and enjoying the rest of Obliveon's performance. They finish - 10min break - Gorguts come up on stage. To my disbelief , the singer of Gorguts was the dude i was talking to in the bathroom. Back in the days , Death metal band didn't have videos and if they did , it didn't have any airplay anywhere so all i knew of Luc Lemay's appearance was 1 pic in the Considered Dead booklet. I didn't recognized him at all.

2-The date : June 9th 2003 ... that's the day that the Montreal Canadiens ( hockey team) won their last Stanley Cup. I love hockey and watched all the playoff games until that night but these 2 local bands , i couldn't miss. The magic happened at the end of the show. Gorguts rocked the place and i forgot about missing the hockey game on TV. Then all of a sudden , the big screen in the back switched to the game. There was like 30 sec to go and Montreal was winning. It was displaying Patrick Roy with the hands in the air and couples of second later , they won. At the same moment , Luc Lemay says ( in french of course ) : "Montreal won , let's do 1 more song to trash the place" and they played Innoculated Life. That exact moment was better than threesome !

Gorguts - Innoculated Life ... solo by James Murphy btw

Hey guys I'm a bug metal fan myself. I like a lot of the older Metal mostly however. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Manowar, Running Wild Etc...

I just recently taught myself some video editing software and took some of my favorite songs and put them to films I thought would go good with them.

If you guys want check them out...and I would appreciate any feedback.

Good call on Lordi, skullbone!! I was jamming The Arockalypse in the car earlier today. Great album, probably my favrite neo-80's metal album of the decade!

Dirtyfrog, great story!! Luc's an awesome vocalist/guitarist. "With Their Flesh, He'll Create" and "Hideous Infirmity" are some of my favorite Gorguts tunes. The fact that Chris Barnes backed 3 songs on Considered Dead only makes 'em sweeter!

I love Rammstein ever since i heard their music in Lost Highway. They made awesome music in the past 10 years but .....

any of you saw the new video of Rammstein for the single "Pussy" ?

The song is pretty good in itself but the video is going for the controversy award of the year for sure.

Pretty girl in music videos aren't new , sexy act in video aren't new either. Hell , hip-hop has been doing it like forever. Still , it kept some boundaries.

The Rammstein video is going full-on hardcore ... not sure that was necessary.

Rammstein - Pussy (Censored)

Rammstein - Pussy (Uncensored)

PS. you can't find the actual uncensored version video of the song on Youtube , i had to go to a porn site to find it. You've been warned!! Just click on the censored version if you think you might be offended.

DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT - Hatred For Mankind
6 tracks - 52 minutes
Mordgrimm Records (Grimm Sixteen)

http://www.myspace.com/draggedintosunlight

1. Boiled Angel/Buried With Leeches
2. Volcanic Birth
3. To Hieron
4. Lashed To The Grinder and Stoned To Death
5. I, Aurora
6. Totem Of Skulls

Review by Paul Priest for Raw Nerve Promotions

"If you've ever seen or heard Dragged Into Sunlight before, you'll know they are no ordinary four piece! I've witnessed their intense, misanthropic, well structured, almost spectacular live show on a fair few occasions, and it never fails to fill me with actual joy.

This translates onto record near perfectly. Nearly an hour of sickening, gritty black metal with a lot of major doom and sludge overtones, and generally quite dank, horrid atmospheres throughout, which is, of course, a compliment!

Monumental riffs litter the first song 'Boiled Angel' and nothing much holds them back after that song spews out its digust onto these happy ears. 'Lashed To The Grinder and Stoned To Death' has some massive sections as well, and the slower moments bring the whole piece together, in a seething fashion.

That's not to say this album is perfect. A couple of the songs don't quite have enough real hooks or big riffs to stand out amongst the monster tunes, which is why this album is generally best enjoyed as a complete piece more than anything. Every song does have something remarkable about it though, just occasionally not as much as they've set the standard for. A few guitar parts aren't as audible as I would like, lacking a little definition in the guitars, moreso on a few of the faster parts, but for the most part, Dragged Into Sunlight get their point across very well.

What does make up for it though is the absolute aggression, and the true coldness in the way the songs and sounds have been put together, and add on top of that some huge drum batterings and vicious vocals (along with some strange but interesting vocal sounds), we have something pretty special and rather unique.

All of that can be said before I even get to the closing 'proper' track, 'I, Aurora', a song I am already enamoured with after many a live and recorded listen. In this true champion of a song, we witness something beyond special, an absolute masterpiece that has literally everything all you fans of grim and extreme music need. Quite simply one of the best songs I've ever heard, any style, and if they can, for a follow up, put together a 3 or 4 song album to the standard of this, then there's no reason why they can't become a world respected band on the 'bigger' circuit.

Get this album, definitely go see them live and marvel at how good DIS are!"

Doom over the World Review

"Incredibly sinister, malice-filled, hatred-drenched, Blackened Death/Doom from this relatively new Liverpool 5-piece; "Hatred for Mankind" is a monolithic slab of misanthropy from a band destined to make waves in the underground in the months and years to come.

Seriously, this is mandatory stuff."

Time for this thread to get resurrected.

Even though the post above me is obvious promotion, presumably from the bands record company, it's right on. That album is a fucking monster and has a secure spot on my top 10 of 2009 list. I love new bands that make me lose my shit. I think I've got my best of the year pretty nailed down. I was hoping Anal Cunt would have their new one ready by now but alas, that dosen't seem to be the case.

So... anyone else got anything awesome to share?

Been jamming a lot of Autopsy, Warbringer, and Megadeth as of late....

Autopsy- Well fuck, if you don't like Autopsy and you like death metal... something is SEVERELY wrong. Autopsy are fucking incredible!!! Been jammin their Severed Survival album many many times this week.

Warbringer - This band and Evile and Toxic Holoocaust... best new thrash bands, without a fucking doubt. I got their new album, Waking Into Nightmares, about a month or so ago... it's incredible! Gary Holt produced it, so it's already guaranteed to be loud, fast and heavy, and almost certainly will grab you by the head and shove yur ass directly into the ground with brute force... but thankfully for the band, they didn't need him for this to happen!!! Warbringer's awesome, I recommend them to everyone reading!

Megadeth - Fuck, needs no description. Megadeth rules. I've mainly been listening to The System Has Failed for the past couple weeks, excellent thrash/groove metal record.. almost a perfect balance! I'd sya it's probably in my top 5 Megadeht records.

Theres a really good show coming up in June. Unfortuantley its in Switzerland.
The lineup is:

Metallica
Megadeth
Slayer
Anthrax
Heaven and Hell
Motorhead

I am guessing Motorhead would open. Which would make it really tough for the following acts. Which is a great thing. Every band is going to bring thier A game as it is. That would be great if this show came to the States. For now I gotta settle for Megadeth, Slayer, and Testament in June.

So I dusted off my copy of Incantation's Onward To Golgotha a while back and it kicked my ass so hard I got Mortal Throne of Nazarene. Then I got the rest of their discography. I think I have a new favorite death metal band. Some of the gnarliest fucking metal ever. The sound they got on their albums is unreal, so fucking thick sounding, and John McEntee's vocals are top shelf. So yeah, Incantation rules.

Bear-Autopsy rules! I have Acts of the Unspeakable on cassette. Great shit. I'm big into sludgy, fuzzed out death metal like Autopsy, Lord Gore, Pungent Stench, and Asphyx. Warbringer is also delectable. Have you heard of Blood Tsunami?

Hannibal-I was planning on Mortal Throne of the Nazarene being my next purchase along with the new Nile (which crushes). Here's a small playlist.

Benediction-The Grand Leveller
Sarcofago-Rotting
Trouble-Psalm 9
Grim Reaper-Fear No Evil
Hypocrisy-The Arrival
Cannibal Corpse-Evisceration Plague
