Riverside is ok but then again I don't like most of the prog metal I have heard.

I'm really digging Sanctus Bellum - Return To Dust. Classic doom with lyrics referencing H.P. Lovecraft.

Just checked out some of Ratt's new album. It's great. It's as if it was a lost album from 1993 that just came out. A perfect follow up to Detonator.

Also been rocking my Dio greatest hits CD. Always loved Rainbow in the Dark.

RIP DIO

I picked up the new Soulfly CD, Omen, today. So far its a real solid thrash CD. They seemed to leave out all that tribal/drummy stuff. Which I was never really into. For the most part its straight ahead metal. The double CD has some nice bonus cover songs on the music disc. The only other Soulfly CD I really enjoyed was Prophecy. So far I think Omen is a little better. It reminds a little of the Chaos AD stuff.

Also the BIG 4 global podcast is June 22nd. Coming to theaters.

Yeah, but the tickets are $20. Plus, they're not screening the full sets.

It would be even better with an accompanying video. XD They make the most asinine faces in the video they made for Battery.

Yeah, I've still got those faces scarred in my Sight. As soon as I saw your post I said aloud "Van Canto... We meet again... For the last time!" (hopefully)

Well they don't sound like Blind Guardian, but check out Lost Horizon RIGHT THE FUCK NOW. One of the most insane power metal bands ever (their singer makes my nuts explode). The new Blind Guardian CD should be sweet, too.

Yeah, all of that shit. Although the closest any of them will get to sounding "Like Blind Guardian" is probably Rhapsody. They have that same epic style, but they even go more over the top. One of their albums even has Christopher Lee on vocals (That would by Symphony of Enchanted Lands vol 2: The Dark Secret).

And there is of course Demons & Wizards, a Blind Guardian/Iced Earth side project that sounds exactly like those two bands combined. It's the Voltron of power metal, really.

Anyone want to download a cool metal album for free? Check this out:

http://www.nosoulsinmanchester.com/

No Souls in Manchester, an indie Canadian metal band. I guess you could call it gothic-metal. Sounds kinda like Poisonblack, if that means anything to you. And even if it doesn't, why not check it out anyway? It won't kill you to click a link and hear some samples. If you like it, you can download the album right off their website.

I mean, come on.

It's.

Free.

I haven't cared for Iron Maiden since the 90s. The Blaze Baily albums were awful, and the stuff since Bruce came back have been average.

Just picked up the newest Dream Evil CD. Pretty good, but I love these guy's sense of humor. The booklet has the band members listed as:

Lead Vocals
Lead Bass
Lead Lead Guitar
Lead Rhythm Guitar
Lead Drums

Also been listening to Avantasia's The Wicked Symphony. So, am I alone in thinking that Avantasia's stuff is way better than Edguy? Also, the Ripper Owens track (Scales of Justice) is incredible. Makes me wish he would really work with producer Sascha Paeth on his next album.

Except for the thing about Maiden, I agree with you 100%.
Dream Evil is great and hilarious. While not the classic that is The Book of Heavy Metal, the new album is great.

And yeah, I love Edguy, but Avantasia goes to 11. Great shit.

Agreed. Maiden were along with Queensryche, Megadeth and Sacred Reich my favorite metal bands of the eighties, but just haven't delivered since.

I'm just now getting around to checking this long, gone band, been meaning to do it for years...

THe German speed metal band Chainsaw. Very punkish, Motorhead/Venom/Accept sounding speed metal from the mid 80's, only released one album called HELL'S BURNIN' UP!

I'm fuckin' lovin the album!!! If anyone's interested, I can post some tunes.

I never cared for Ozzy solo career. Don't like his singing and doesn't fit with his solo music songs. That new single was horrible. Sounds like Godsmack or Nickelback or some radio rock band.

I love Ozzy's solo career. It's my 5th favorite band in fact. Which is why this abortion is so much more of a travesty.

Agreed. Also the best band name of all time.

Kicking back and taking in the latest from one of the most influential bands ever, and I 'm loving it.

Slough Feg are completely underrated. I seriously can't believe that they don't have more recognition. And did you know that Mike Scalzi is a professor at a California University? I had no idea.

How does everyone like the new Nevermore disc? I've only heard it once, but I dig it. The die-hards are downing it because it's less complex than This Godless Endeavor. I don't know. I'll have more of an opinion later.

Brief playlist...

Warbeast-Krush the Enemy (9/10)
Cirith Ungol-King of the Dead-(9/10)
Nevermore-Dreaming Neon Black (10/10)
Immolation-Majesty and Decay (8/10)
Death Angel-The Ultra-Violence (6/10)

I love it. I may like Dreaming Neon Black and This Godless Endeavor a tad more, but it's one of my favorite albums they've done. I've probably listened to it two or three times a day in its entirety since I got it.

Iron Maiden of the mid to late 80's was my favorite era of theirs-"Powerslave"(1984) fun! fun! bass jammin' CD. Bassist Steve Harris -I'll always be grateful for his work on that release,it really helped me back in the mid 80's develop finger speed! Click image for larger version
