Deicide's new album OWNS. I haven't heard any of their older material, though, so I can't make a comparison. But I've heard the last couple albums were pretty lackluster.

Scars of the Crucifix wasn't terrible, but Insineratehymn and In Torment in Hell wern't very good. I read an interview with Glen where he said that Roadrunner (their lable at the time) were fucking them pretty hard, so they just gave 'em 2 generic DM records. But then they signed with Earache which is great cause Scars was much better then the previous 2, and The Stentch of Redemption totally shreads.

Indeed it does. I'm not so hot on the whole "UBER-SATANIC" thing, but then again, who really listens to death metal for the lyrics? This album owns. Jack Owen owns! And so does Ralph Santolla.

You should check out the albums Deicide and Legion. Those are their best. I like the new one alot too though. Also, you might be interested in Vital Remains - Dechristianize. That's a truly outstanding album and Glen Benton from Deicide is on vocals.

I've been told Vital Remains is great. Anyway, anyone heard the new Suffocation?

God, this topic makes me remember how much I love metal. For awhile, I wasn't really listening to any. I kind of drifted away, and was listening to like Jrock and stuff. Then I bought Summoning's Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame, and I was like, "ZOMG. NOW I REMEMBER. METAL IS TEH PWNAGE." Anyway, I'm listening to the new Blind Guardian CD. Fly is like, the best fucking power metal song EVER. The chorus is infectious.

I'd like to vote up "Sacrament" to an 8/10, after getting in the mood (i.e. eating beef jerky and drinking with a heap of Southern agern), it's a solid album.
So that's
Burn the Priest - 7/10
New American Gospel - 8/10
As the Palaces Burn - 10/10
Ashes of the Wake - 9/10
Sacrament - 8/10

And, oh yeah, "Blacken the Cursed Sun" rules.

Slayer - Divine Innervention 9/10 (underrated)
Motorhead - Kiss of Death 9/10 (they can do no wrong)
Six Feet Under - 13 7/10
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath 10/10

Well, I gave into pressure and listened to the advance press copy of Mastodon's "Blood Mountain" that my friend was sent. I was gonna wait for the majesty of opening the shrink wrap, drooling over the beautiful art (it is a Mastodon album after all), and popping the retail version into the CD player... Regardless, this album owns. Mastodon were fairly unknown to me in 2004, even after the release of "Leviathan" and all the praise it got, I had only heard "March of the Fire Ants", "Iron Tusk", and a live version of "Megalodon". Then I heard "Blood and Thunder" and pretty much begged my at the time girlfriend to loan me the money to get me a copy. She did and from that moment on, it's a rare thing when a week goes by that "Leviathan" doesn't enter my CD player. "Remission" is almost as good, but it lacks the diversity that makes "Leviathan" so great. "Blood Mountain", however, is "Leviathan"'s succesor and peer. In a recent interview with Alternative Press when asked about the change in label and the addition of even cleaner vocals if they were afraid of being labeled "sell outs", guitarist Bill Kelliher responded with "If I heard some kid call me a sellout, I'd punch his face in." And this is the attitude the album gives you. There are calmer parts, but right when you start to think the album's going soft on you, it kicks you in the nuts and rocks your face off. To give an example of how otherworldy this album can feel, most of it reminded me of the Elder Scrolls game, Morrowind, more specifically, it's expansion pack, Bloodmoon. The album gives the feeling of being somewhere familiar, but at the same time, somewhere frightening and dangerous. Mastodon is one of the few modern metal bands that transcend genres and almost become an art form unto themselves. "Blood Mountain" deserves to be heard by any fan of music at all, not just metal fans, but for those of who us who are listening and see everyone on MTV enjoying the current youth culture, we smile to ourselves knowing that they're missing out on what is undoubtedly to my ears, a masterpiece.
10/10
(Sorry for my lengthy review, but God, I just love this album.)

Napalm get a ton of credit, and they deserve it, but Terrorizer is a terribly underrated band. World Downfall is a killer death/grind album.

I'm listening to The Fall of Ideals right now. It's infinitely inferior to its predecessor, but it's starting to grow on me. The formulaic arrangements drag the album down. Not every song needs a ball-less clean chorus.

Mastoden...meh. They're unique, but they don't really interest me.

It definitely is the best album Kamelot ever recorded. Alot of their stuff is rather weak, but The Black Halo is actually really really good. I'd recommend to anyone with an interest in modern power metal.

I never cared for Prometheus, but for me Anthems to the Welkin At Dusk is THE number one black metal album. No other can take me on a journey every time I listen to it quite like that cd.

Well, I'll agree with you there, it's also the only album I can think of that Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir is on that I like.
