Under the Radar Movies that You must see!

This thread is an attempt to find movies that may have passed us by. We all see those occasional movies that we had never heard of and we wonder how we had missed seeing them for so long.

Post movies here that you've seen and really liked but for whatever reason, most people you talk to haven't seen. I hope that after awhile we will have a nice list here of movies we should check out. That's the plan anyway. (I'm sick of searching Blockbuster and just guessing at something, it'd be nice to have some Schmoe recommendations for a few movies I may not have seen). I'll start the list.

A Boy and his Dog. Its kinda campy and cheaply made, but it has its own charm.

It's hard to gauge what movies are less seen by people but here's a few (a lot of foreign films since I figure most people in N America have seen less of those) that I think are lesser seen that I love or really enjoy...basically as a general rule I just stayed away from anything with over 10000 votes on IMDb

C.R.A.Z.Y.
3-Iron
Mysterious Skin
Following
My Life as a Dog
You Can Count on Me
Altered States
The Princess and the Warrior
Nobody Knows
Spartan
The Bride with White Hair
Tarnation
Nine Queens

I didn't list this one because it did receive a couple of Oscar nominations, but hell yes. A classic.

Holy shit, does that mean someone else has seen it? I'm so glad you also enjoyed it. It's one of my favorite movies (top 10, #8 or so) ever, it's incredibly powerful. Dennis Quaid masters thespian abilities.

It helps that I'm a big fan of movies that are set in that area.

I realized that I also love movies set in those bleak really unknown areas hit with war/poverty/etc. I particularly like the African setting for dramas. Do you know of other great movies set in the Serbia/Bosnia area? Or Africa?

Sorry to derail the thread, schmoes.

The only 2 that I can think of are No Man's Land and Harrison's Flowers. I would love to see more though.

In a way, Savior feels like a post apocalyptic movie. Like you said, bleak war torn area. Not a lot of people around.

I think I might have to rent that tomorrow. I HIGHLY recommend others do so too.

I own Savior. Good movie.

I would also HIGHLY recommend Harrison's Flowers. A VERY good movie with a great performance from Andie McDowell.

And, damn. How could I have forgotten about Interstate 60?! I LOVE that movie!

I just finished watching another movie that deserves mentioning:

Knockaround Guys

MadsenOMC - Yeah I was really surprised when I finally saw You Can Count on Me a few months ago...really amazing and heartfelt film but it didn't go overboard into total sentimentality. Really loved it.

And Spartan - my family (particularly my brother) kept raving about this movie to me for ages so to shut him up I finally watched it and it was excellent.

Savior - great flick from what I had seen of it...my Gr. 12 politics professor was a big advocate of this film I think as he had us watch it one day when we had another teacher filling in for him...

Unfortunately that asshole teacher started bitching about the inappropriateness of the movie (though in her favor, it was a pretty graphic scene...I think those of you who have seen the movie will know which one I'm talking about) and turned it off halfway...she also apparently wrote our politics teacher a letter later admonishing him for showing us that as outsyder can probably attest to since we were in the same class...

But very good movie from what I saw...I'll have to check out the rest sometime if I can find a copy of it.
