Generation Kill (Susanna White & Simon Cellan Jones, 2008)

I think this is the first miniseries I've actually watched. It was great, a very funny, challenging piece of film/journalism. The acting is fantastic, I love James Ransone and even though that David Simon cynicism has started to become recognisable, perhaps a little annoying, it still packs the punch it intends to.
9/10

Really glad to see you enjoyed this, it absolutely blew my mind the first time I watched it. I completely agree with you on James Ransone as well. He's shown up a few times on David Simon's new show Treme but he really doesn't get anywhere near the recognition or number of roles that he deserves.
Now, find the time to watch Band of Brothers .

After too long a hiatus I jumped back into season 2 of Breaking Bad. Moving at a slower pace then season 1 but there is slow building suspense that's becoming more and more palpable with every passing episode. Can't wait to see how it ends.

Oh yeah, I've only got a week left at my parents house and so have to choose between Band of Brothers, Angels in America and the first season of Breaking Bad before I go back to Uni - tough one.

At the moment the TV show I'm watching is the Rugby edition of Come Dine With Me, Victor Ubogu is hilarious.

Come Dine With Me is television gold!

And I have to say I'd probably recommend you go with the first season of Breaking Bad if you can only watch one, but all three are worth your time.

Just knocked out season 2 of Breaking Bad.

One hell of a finale. At first the mystery of the pink bear felt out of left field and disappointing but after some thought I think it actually speaks volumes about the characters and what their actions create.

SPOILERSSSSSS!!!

Not sure what to think about Walt letting Jane die, though.

Appropriate Adult.

I'm watching the second part now. Not gritty enough. Not a terrible work, though. Quite interesting.

Breaking Bad Season 1 (2008)

Yeah this show is badass. The only downside is that I'm gonna have to put it off until the whole thing is released - I still have access to the complete Sopranos and Six Feet Under before I start actually purchasing box sets. I always thought Bryan Cranston was the best thing about Malcolm in the Middle, now I think he might be the best thing about television! A truly special performance, and all the supporting actors do great work too. The pilot is probably my favourite pilot ever, was on such a high after watching it. Episode 6 (first time we see Walter bald) was brilliant as well.

Ringer - Pilot

I was a bit disappointed to be honest. The pilot seemed to be doing a little too much for its own good. Heaps of interesting plot points and moments were glossed over. The scene on the boat for example. I hope we get to see in full what actually happened later on, I assume we will. Apparently the storyline slows down considerably in the next couple of episodes.

I hated the music. The song choices were terrible. A lot of the time there was cheesy, horrible back-of-the-shelf pop music blaring over potentially powerful scenes. This was my biggest annoyance with the show overall.

SMG was good, she wasn't amazing, but did a good job of creating two distinctly different characters, though I do hope we get to see more of Siobhan in future episodes. Hopefully the role provides her with plenty to do.

The show had a "classic", retro kind of visual style that I liked a lot. That said, a lot of the scenes with Siobhan & Bridget looked fake, and it's kind of distracting when there's an over-the-shoulder with a blatantly shorter/taller double for SMG. That's nitpicking though.

For the pilot, I say a 6/10. The second half was better than the first. There were fun twists and turns and the show has me interested, but there's definitely flaws here, especially in the musical department.

Yep Urban, me too. I'm with you on the truly horrible choices in music, and the somewhat unsteadiness of the first episode. I watched because I have always been a fan of Miss Gellar, I think she is very versatile, and doesn't get enough kudos for it. But I agree again; she was good, not amazing.

She'll get into it, no doubt. Gonna watch again next week

I'll follow the show without a doubt. SMG is my favourite actress and I was an obsessive Buffy fan (still am to this day, to be honest). But I really hope they let her performance do the talking and not the music. Honestly, the scenes with her speaking on the phone to her rehab buddy about Siobhan's death, or the Bridget/Siobhan convo in front of the mirror, had the potential to be moving, powerful scenes where SMG's performance could shine, but the music just completely ruined it on both occasions. Some dodgy editing didn't really help either.

I also can't buy SMG as a recovering drug addict at this point. She needs to get more into the role, as you say. Hopefully she sheds her good-and-wholesome image to make the character really gritty in the future. There could be flashbacks.

I know she is talented as fuck and can handle more than one character - she did it on Buffy, and showed huge dramatic talent in The Air I Breathe with a near Oscar-worthy performance that went largely unseen and unappreciated. The show needs to really service her talent. That's where the potential for this series is, mainly in her acting ability, and not so much in the far-fetched story (how did Bridget get Siobhan's bank account details and pin numbers to buy coffees for her and a friend, etc, there are various plotholes). If they keep that in mind, this show could be fantastic. I hope the characters get significantly fleshed out soon.

I'm really looking forward to episode 2, even though I'm somewhat disappointed by the pilot.

Now THAT was a strong episode. The first episode to actually deal with Walt's cancer full on and the result was the most emotional episode yet. Also the best of season 1 so far.

Chuck (S1-S4 marathon )

Good and entertaining TV show. I laughed , I shouted in excitement , I shed 1-2 tears ..... but i also facepalmed a couple of times. This show deserves a 5th and final season but no more.

The Good :
Jeffster ( freaking hilarious ) - Adam Baldwin as Casey Jones and the rest of the supporting cast (Big Mike , Morgan , The General , etc) - action sequences - guest appearances (Steve Austin prolly my fav with John Laroquette a good 2nd choice)

The Bad :
the "secrets" of the storyline - S2 finale - special FX - Chuck ( dont get me wrong , Zachary Levi is a good actor but the character gets annoying fast )

The Best:
Yvonne Strahovski as Sarah Walker. Not only is she really an awesome eye candy , she can act drama-comedy-action like the best hollywood starlet around

I think they renewed for a 5th season solely on this scene

7.5/10 overall ... some episodes are worth a 9 , others are worth 6
