![]() 10/10 Officially my favourite movie......just watched it 3 times in about as many weeks..featuring my favourite score, the best editing I've ever seen and one of my favourite performances (Oldmen) ever...totally underrated and easily deserved the oscar.....i also absolutely love the scene with Costner and Sutherland...sends chills down my spine every time i watch it...and while i am most likely biased in that i completely agree with Stone's theories, I don't see how any rational thinking person can believe Oswald did it alone...if you have not seen this, put it on the top of your list.....even if you don't agree with the content, you can't deny that it is filmmaking of the highest order |

The Mummy 3 - 4/10
Yuck. There was...maybe...a decent film in this, but I'm not sure where. The film was DOA when: 1) Maria Bello stepped in; 2) someone not in touch with Jerry Goldsmith's sensibilities came in to score the film; 3) they made the story take place in China; 4) the villain was made really lame; and 5) Rob Cohen was assigned. No offense to the man and it's clear from his blog that he was quite passionate about this project, but he wasn't the right man for this. The acting and CGI were also quite pitiful. This film as a whole is just on par with Indiana Jones 4 quality...which isn't a good thing. |

Swing Vote - ***
A pretty solid and entertaining comedy/drama with solid acting by Kevin Costner, Kelsey Grammer, Dennis Hopper, Stanley Tucci, Nathan Lane, Paula Patton and the actress who plays Costner's daughter. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor - * 1/2 ![]() |

![]() Never Back Down - 7/10 Take the story from The Karate Kid, replace the karate aspect with MMA. Throw in a bunch of good looking chicks, have some hard rock music as the soundtrack, and call it a day. Honestly, this movie was seriously like a remake of The Karate Kid. The story was almost exactly the same. I'm not saying this was a bad movie, it wasn't. This was actually entertaining for what it was. It was a fun little sports oriented movie. It wasn't touching, it wasn't overly entertaining, but as a way to put off going to sleep on a Friday night ... it fit the bill. |

![]() The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor - 6/10 I went into this movie with probably the lowest expectations of any movie I have seen in a long time, and I'm glad I did because I kind of enjoyed it. It's nothing special, but it was definitely a decent way to kill a couple of hours on a shitty Saturday afternoon. There is plenty of action, all which is very exciting and fun. I tend to enjoy Brendan Fraser's performances, and he was plenty of fun here. I agree with the majority, Maria Bello was pretty damn bad, and I usually enjoy her performances. Jet Li when on screen was fun to watch. The CGI was good in places, and not so good in others. The cinematography was pretty damn gorgeous with some breathtaking shots. Overall, this sequel is probably on par with its predecessors (albeit I haven't seen either of those in a while), is cheesy dumb fun, and was a solid way to kill a few hours this afternoon. Nothing more, nothing less. |

My Siter In Law - 6/10
Sex comedy from Lucio Fulci, nicely made and some nice visuals even if I lacked subtitles to properly tell what was going on.Step Brothers - 7/10 I was hating this at the start but it really got funnier as it moved along, fun interactions between the characters and some hilarious scenes. The Mummy 3: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor - 3/10 Dull, effects vary from terrible to kinda good, soso acting, bad script... meh, they should have never made any sequels to the fun first film. My Sassy Girl (08) - 2/10 I wanted to like this but no.... just no, Cuthbert is decent but Bradford is just terrible and makes every scene with him nearly unbearable, the rest of the acting isn't very good either, the song's don't seem to fit in a number of scenes and they really destroy a great story. Seek out the original and watch a good film. Last edited by Cronos; 08-02-2008 at 05:02 PM.. |

"Movie I finally got to friggin see"
![]() 2001: A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick, 1968) ![]() Pleased to find out that it kept me entertained but is far from the greatest movie ever. However it is a strong film, perhaps the 'best directed' movie and almost certainly the movie with the best use of sound/music. The part with the monkeys at the beginning was fascinating, as was the part at the end (although that was a little scary as well). HAL was an awesome villian, the part where he kills the sleeping crew was the most a movie has scared me in a while. Another thing I found was that it was one of the first movies that had physically effected me (I got some major headaches during the first and final segments). So despite the fact that I did find it a little...pretentious? self-indulgent? kudos to Kubrick for creating such an interesting watch (I couldn't begin to analyse the meaning of some of those scenes )8/10 |

![]() Swing Vote - 5/10 This is, by far, one of the worst movies I've ever seen in theaters. Aside from the fact that the plot is ridiculous; the acting is horrible, the jokes are unfunny, and there is not one likable character in the entire movie. This movie was someones way of getting a message across about the ludicrous nature of American democracy. The message they were trying to send was that a lot of average American voters are unintelligent individuals with no idea about the political process or it's candidates, yet they still get the right to vote and let their voice be heard. While one could make an argument that the message is dead on, I would like to think that that's something people can figure out without watching a bad Kevin Costner comedy. If you want to see this at all, wait for it to come on free TV. Don't waste $10 like I did. |

Your review sounds WAY harsh for a 5/10. |

When I rate movies, I do it out of 10, and I look at it the same way a teacher looks at grades.
10/10 = Perfect 9/10 = A 8/10 = B 7/10 = C 6/10 = D 5/10 = F To me, a 5/10 is a movie failing at what it attempted to do. I see no purpose of saying 4/10, 3/10, 2/10, because it's still a failure. The only way any movie could get below 5/10 for me is if it's unwatchable, meaning I had to struggle to get through it; which rarely happens. While I was happy when this was over, I didn't struggle to get through it. In my opinion too many people on this board rate flicks 2/10, 3/10, 4/10 etc; and I think they do it simply so they can show how "smart" a movie fan they are, because in their minds it's cool to say that some movies "fail" in such a dramatic manner. A 5/10 is a movie grade of an F. That's as harsh as harsh gets. |
