Anybody Catch That Kooky Cult's New Album Yet? (The Fragile Army)
Let me first say that I am EXTREMELY discomforted by The Polyphonic Spree's change in uniform.
WTF. But anyway, anyone hear their new album yet? It's kind of on the scale of meh, I know that first and foremeost, they are a live band, but I think the butterflies in your stomach saccharine novelty is starting to wear off, unveiling the sad truth that they really are getting progressively.. not good. The Beginning Stages Of was my #5 album of 2003, I couldn't get enough of it, and after I saw them live the following Spring, I thought they were on their way to establish themselves as a truly great band, niche as the may be. Then Together We're Heavy came out and I was one of the only people to defend it, it didn't crack my top 10, but I liked it and defend it when everyone said it was shit. I've heard people criticize Blonde Redhead's 23 for sounding overproduced, but at least it's something new. For the most part, this album sounds almost exactly like Together We're Heavy, and it feels like a gallant leap in no particular direction. 5/10 I still have Icky Thump to listen to, so maybe I don't have to be totally disappointed today. |

yeah I wasn't too impressed with their new effort. Live they are fun times but they don't translate well into recorded form. I think it helps when your knee deep in the culty expaerience to get into the music live. yeah the new uniforms are a wee bit disturbing.
I might think twice before drinking anything offered at the next show of theirs I go to. |
