Great music from movies

This might belong in the music forum but this is just as much about movies as music and this forum is much more crowded

Anyways I'm looking for some good music from movies.

I'm not talking about music like
Will Smith - Men in Black
Celine Dion - My heart will go on

More like:
Gary Jules - Mad World
Pearl Jam - Reign over me
U2 - Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me
(from dusk till dawn, can't remember artist) - Dark Night
BOB DYLAN - HURRICANE CARTER
limp bizkit - take a look around
etc. etc.

So many knowledgeable movies fans on this forum so help me out plz

Le Big Mac covered everything I was going to mention...

As far as score soundtracks go, one of my favorites is what Thomas Newman did for Road to Peridition.
Also:
Cliff Martinez for Solaris
Johnny Greenwood for There Will Be Blood
Hans Zimmer for The Last Samurai

Also, two of my favorite soundtracks I just remembered:
"Goody Two Shoes" - Adam Ant (Hot Fuzz)
"Village Green Preservation Society" - The Kinks (...)
"Caught By The Fuzz" - Supergrass
"Solid State Easy Action" - The Fratellis
"Zombi" - Zombie Nation (Shaun of the Dead)
"Mister Mental" - Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster (...)
"Don't Stop Me Now" - Queen
"You're My Best Friend" - Queen

The Lord of the Rings has some of the greatest scores ever written. Even Enya went off for Fellowship of the Ring.. beautiful soundtrack.

The Coasters - Down in Mexico (Grindhouse: Death Proof)

Two words. JERRY GOLDSMITH. My faves are the scores for Planet of the Apes and Escape from the Planet of the Apes, but there's also Total Recall, The Omen and Outland.Yeah, he did some other ones, too ;D

I agree that LOTR had a memorable soundtrack, but its not the kind of stuff that I would go out and buy to listen to. It's perfect for the movie, but thats pretty much it for me, except for the Shire theme from Fellowship of the Ring, that tune is "Giggidy Giggidy, Al-right!

The Braveheart soundtrack always hit a nerve. (I've even heard a trance/techno remix of it.) I remember Alive had a memorable soundtrack (about the footballers eating eachother in the Andes). Natural Born Killers had a good soundtrack too, especially the placememnt of 'Take the Power Back' in the jailhouse.

Not very much to contribute here, but on the topic of great classical music soundtracks, one must mention the following:

Philip Glass for The Hours
Clint Mansell for The Fountain
Thomas Newman for American Beauty
Hans Zimmer for Gladiator

Also, in terms of compilation albums, i.e. movies that just have damn good soundtracks:
Pulp Fiction
Kill Bill vol. 1
Forrest Gump
Dazed and Confused
Snatch
Juno

That scene was great, song was even better.

"All Along the Watchtower" in 'Forrest Gump' was good.

In terms of scores, some of the older WWII flicks were really good, namely 'The Great Escape' and/or 'Patton'. Jonny Greenwood's work on 'There Will Be Blood' was spectacular, and the credit composition by Haydn (might have been Bach...?) was REALLY nice.

'Gladiator', from which 'Pirates...' was ripped off of (same guy though, I don't know if that counts...), has some great, really appropriate scoring.

Well it's not exactly the same guy... The first "Pirates" was scored by Klaus Badelt, although the guy collaborated with Hans Zimmer on the score - incidentally Badelt also worked with Zimmer on the score for Gladiator, so I guess it's most accurate to say that it's the same TWO guys. Still, some parts of the score ARE strikingly similar. Gladiator rules though.

Another really great classical score is this year's Oscar winner Dario Marianelli's score for Atonement.

I too have to say that Requiem (and The Fountain for that matter) is one of my favourite scores. I also noticed no one has given Steve Jablonski his due credit for Transformers here yet, so there it is. As far as songs go, Dead Can Dance's piece from The Mist goes nearly unrivaled in my book.

Yes it is! It's called "Summer Overture" by Clint Mansell and it is by far freaking incredible! One of the best scores I've ever heard!

Have you ever heard Paul Oakenfold's "Zoo York"? It's a sampled version of the song off his Bunka album. It's pretty good.

The Garden State Soundtrack is one of my fav's.

I might be the ONLY person to think this but F it, I REALLY like the song "Cry Little Sister" by Sisters of Mercy off The Lost Boys Soundtrack. I LOVE that song!

The Lair of the White Worm

I know it is weird but I loved the violin song about the guy that killed the D'Ampton Worm.
I have not heard it in years but I remember thinking this song rocked in a nifty kind of way.
Anybody else remember it?
