New WWE Game

All I have to say is finally and fuck yes!!! WWE have finally announced they are doing an all legends game.

AGOURA HILLS, Calif. - (Business Wire) THQ Inc. (NASDAQ:THQI) and JAKKS Pacific, Inc. (NASDAQ:JAKK) today announced that WWE® Legends of WrestleMania® is currently in development for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. Joining the distinguished WWE® SmackDown®/SmackDown vs. Raw® franchise, which has shipped more than 37 million units worldwide since 2000, WWE Legends of WrestleMania is scheduled for release in March 2009 to coincide with the annual pinnacle of sports entertainment, WrestleMania® 25, in Houston, Texas.

"We have generated significant year-over-year growth in key global territories with WWE-licensed videogames, including tremendous success with the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise," said Peter Matiss, vice president, global brand management, THQ. "The development capabilities afforded by next generation hardware, combined with our established history and deep understanding of fighting videogames, allow us to leverage the strength of the WWE brand to further extend our leadership in the fighting videogame genre and bring this new property to market."

"JAKKS Pacific is pleased to introduce a new WWE videogame property to the fighting genre," said Nelo Lucich, senior vice president of interactive, JAKKS Pacific. "The WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise has captured a collective audience of WWE fans, game enthusiasts and casual players, and we are confident that WWE Legends of WrestleMania will be poised for great success."

I haven't liked an SVR game since the 2006 edition, but still this should be awesome.

I imagine we will get:

Hogan
Flair
Rock
Austin
Bret Hart
Andre
Piper
Mick Foley
An Old School version of The Undertaker

But after that, the possibilities are endless.

I just hope they keep the movesets realistic unlike those lame Legends Of Wrestling games where Hulk Hogan does a death valley driver or powerbomb and Dynamite Kid does a shooting star press.

Acclaim had a similar game, and had so many legends, too bad the game sucked.

As for this, I am not a fan of the Smackdown series, I hate the gameplay, but I will give this game a chance.

The day the creators of WCW/NWO Revenge and Wrestlemania 2000 make a game with every single wrestler all time from WWF/WCW/ECW is the next time I'll buy a wrestling game.

Fuck yes! This game, if done properly, will be kick all kinds of ass.

I hope these people meet the final cut (if they use more than just former WWF/WWE wrestlers), complete with accurate theme music:

Macho Man
Koko B. Ware
Honky Tonk Man
Million Dollar Man
Repo Man
Evil Doink The Clown (not the lame ass face Doink)
Arn Anderson
Tully Blanchard
Magnum TA
Terry Funk
Ronnie Garvin
Greg Valentine
Ricky Steamboat
Demolition
Jake The Snake Roberts
British Bulldog
Ultimate Warrior
Mr. Perfect
Ravishing Rick Rude
Tito Santana
Rick Martel
Earthquake
Vader

Tag Teams:

The Fabulous Rougeaus
The Quebecers / The Mountie
The Hollywood Blondes
The Midnight Express
The Rock N Roll Express
The Road Warriors
The Fabulous Freebirds
The Rockers
The Steiner Brothers

Would they include someone like Owen Hart? I don't think they would.

I really hope Vince finally manages to mend fences with Macho Man by the time this game is released, but I doubt it. I hope they can somehow get Sting to agree to this as well, but once again I doubt it.

In fact, based on real life feuds with Vince, I just can't see these people being in the game:

Ultimate Warrior
Demolition Ax
Honky Tonk Man
Chyna
Macho Man
Dynamite Kid
Owen Hart (Martha Hart still owns all of his rights, I think)
Honky Tonk Man
Bruno Sammartino
Lex Luger
Jeff Jarrett
Brock Lesnar
Goldberg

Some of these guys are in the action figure line, but it's a big difference between action figure and video game.

Vince Pulls Randy Savage From Upcoming Video Game
09/10/2008 by Nick Paglino

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Vince McMahon has decided NOT to feature Randy Savage as a playable character in the upcoming "Legends of Wrestlemania" video game which is slated to be released by THQ next March. Savage, who competed in 9 out of the first 10 Wrestlemania's and won the WWF Championship at two of them, is being regarded by THQ as a huge loss to the video game. In addition to Savage, McMahon has also made the decision to pull Mick Foley from the game even though his character had already been created. McMahon made the decision following Foley's departure from WWE and announcement that he has signed with TNA. Several other names were also removed from the game at McMahon's request, but those names have yet to be released.
--------------------

Well can't say I'm surprised at all but still, I am a little disappointed that McMahon can't seem to put grudges aside to give the fans Savage vs Steamboat. I'm really curious as to who else he had pulled from the game.

Typical piece of shit McMahon. Savage had several of the greatest bouts in Mania history (vs. Hogan, Steamboat, Warrior, Flair), and for Vince to do this just shows how he likes to piss on his own company's legacy. Fuck that piece of shit...

The fuck! No Foley?! Savage should be in too (but i'm more fussed over Foley). But maybe they'll keep his bit's n peices in so we can make him? Vince is a shitfuck.

I hope this (and SVR 09) have the option for classic controls....I can't adjust to the new ones.

I'm shocked people are surprised that Savage isn't going to be in the game. For some reason, Savage being promoted in these products like DVD's, Games, and even Action Figures is forbidden in the WWE. Nobody knows why Vince hates Savage, the net rumor is that Macho had his way with an underage Stephanie, but that was on the Death Valley Driver list of wrestling's urban legends that seemed like 80% was false. If it wasn't for Macho appearing on WWE 24/7, he'd nearly be like Benoit is now for WWE products as in erased from WWE history.

If you know where Foley is headed then it's easy to figure out why he's not in.

Why is Savage not being in, Vince's fault exactly? No one knows what truly happened. Maybe Savage did something totally fucking stupid. It says something when Vince isn't willing to make money off his name. At least in video game form.

I'm not shocked Savage is not in the game, but I am severely dissappointed. Quit thinking about yourself once Vince and give the fans what they want. Anyone old enough to have watched most of these wrestlers know Savage was the shit, and now we are denied The Mega Powers, recreating Wrestlemania 3 with Steamboat... And letting Savage wrestle people that you always wanted to see him wrestle in real life. I was a huge Savage mark back in the day... him, The Rockers, and Demolition were a big reason for my watching when I was young. I do hope they atleast do more with the tag teams, as back then tag team wrestling was actually a big deal.

Totally expected and extremely disappointed at the same time. Much like the Hall of Fame, it's not really a Legends game without Randy "Macho Man" Savage.

yeah couple n64 wwf games were wicked and snes royal rumble

really don't like smackdown vs raw. hate the characters for the most part

this game is meant to be more arcade style which should be more fun, shame they have left out classics like yokozuna and mankind

They still have more wrestlers that haven't been announced for the game yet. Based on that picture of Fuji that I posted where he's throwing salt in Bret's eyes, it seems like Yokozuna is definately in the game since Bret/Yoko from Mania 9 is where that is from. I don't really know if Foley can be in the game due to some contract from TNA regarding his licensing rights possibly. Same with Angle, Kevin Nash/Diesel, The Dudleys, Jarrett, New Age Outlaws, and so on.

They added some new names to the game and I put them in my roster post. Some of them are baffling in terms of the whole Wrestlemania gimmick like Michael Hayes (1 Wrestlemania), Kamala (Never appeared on Wrestlemania), Arn Anderson (1 Wrestlemania).

I'm still holding out for Sid, Ricky Steamboat, Demolition, Tito Santana, and Paul Orndorff.

If th einterface is the same from the Smackdown! series then no thanks. Horrible, horrible system.

NO MERCY is one of the best games of all time. There's legitimate STRATEGY involved in that game, with the ability to turn the tide of any match with an AWESOME counter system.

Paul Orndorff
Rick Martel
Razor Ramon
Diesel
Sid
Marty Jannetty

What gets me is wwe.com recently had one of their infamous polls asking who is the greatest Legend of WrestleMania. Sure enough, Randy Savage was one of the choices. I’d love to see him as part of the DLC package down the road, but I have my doubts. It’s been said that the DVD is being made because the demand is there and lots of money will be made despite the economy. Will Vince see a $5 or $10 DLC package be worth the inclusion of Macho Man? I hope so, because as with the DVD, it will sell.

- The following information comes from an online chat with Paul Edwards, a member of the THQ: WWE Legends of WrestleMania design team:

* The control system is designed to be something of a mix between the old school arcade game style play and today's controls.

* There is no Playstation 2 version as they wanted to focus on the newer systems to keep their efforts focused on the highest quality game possible.

* There are no female characters in the game due to time constraints.

* There will be characters that fans can unlock via gameplay. They teased Howard Finkel.

* There will be 30 "Legends" in the game but you will be able to bring over the WWE roster and created characters you've put together from the most recent Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 game. The only exception will be characters that were later created for SVR2009 as downloadable additions.

* There will be Steel Cage and Ladder matches in the game. The cage will be the old school big blue cage. The game will also feature a Royal Rumble.

* There are video montages that WWE edited together for the "Wrestlemania tour mode" portion of the game, including some footage that WWE has never released on DVD before.

* Designers have recreated all of the venues and looks of the first 15 Wrestlemania events, minus the "WWF" logo, which they can't use for legal reasons.

* Like Smackdown vs. Raw 2009, you will be able to import custom music for your characters.

* Damien the snake and Frankie the bird pop up.

* All of the classic music will be used for Legends, as well as some new music for talents that didn't have music that was still available for the game.

* There will be no referee visible in the game as the look is meant to be a throwback to the early WWF Arcade Games and there were no referees in those.

* The hope is to make the game a yearly franchise like Smackdown vs. Raw but game sales will determine whether that happens.

* There will be multiple costumes for talents.

* The World Heavyweight, Million Dollar, Intercontinental, and Tag Team championships are included in the game.

* No Kim Chee with Kamala.

* You will be able to create stables in the game.

* There will only be four managers in the game and you will not be able to create managers on your own.

Gotta say I'm pretty disappointed with the demo. Graphically, it looks great but the control mechanics suck. Why would they change the gameplay from SvR09 so dramatically? I'll still probably get the game but my anticipation dropped like a rock bottom.

I've decided that demo actually saved me $65. I may rent it down the road but I'm in no hurry. I still have my SvR09 and I just got Resident Evil 5, so I'm good to go for a while.

It's a shame, I was really looking forward to this game.

So like many of my fellow schmoes, i have been eagerly awaiting this title for quite some time and finally it came out...and it sucks...big time..the characters look nothing like their real counterparts, the control layout is horrendous and the gameplay itself isnt that great to begin with. The only part of the game that i actually enjoyed was the nostalgia(sp) behind it all..I really felt like I was teleported to the mid 80s to the mid-90's..but yea..If I were you guys, I would rent it..

You said it sister, Revenge is the best wrastlin' game ever.

A little off topic but who cares, I remember my senior year in high school we had a super nes rom and we would play WWF Royal Rumble computer vs computer and pick the royal rumble and take dollar bets on who would win it all. Vegas should really have this at a casino.

Agreed. By far they were some of the most entertaining games ive ever
played.

Really, WHO GIVES A SHIT about "Legends" rosters when all the characters have the same moves and the gameplay is utter shit?

I havent played a wrestling game since the original smackdown.
