I like Kid Rock, and he is actually pretty talented. I don't think he is the best singer, or guitarist, or really anything, but I still like his music. You don't, so I guess that means he doesn't make "good music".

Um, I love Nirvana and I'm not of the lot that still holds onto the conspiracy theories or built a fuckin' shrine. But I enjoy Pearl Jam as well.

Alright, that sidekick you speak of was ten years ago. Not exactly a valid complaint. Now, I think Kid Rock's early stuff that was in the Limp Bizkit area (Devil Without a Cause, that terrible covers album) were pretty atrocious but hey, give credit where it's due, he's matured and grown into a pretty damn good songwriter, even if it's tough for you to get that image out of your head rapping about mushrooms and Deeeeee-troit with that little dude.

It's not music that will change the world, I acknowledge that, but as far as creating enjoyable, well-crafted Southernesque rock, I think he has now really silenced a lot of his critics, well the open-minded ones at least. Rock n' Roll Jesus is one of the best party albums to come out in a very, very long time, and it sounds to me like you're really not too well-versed in his recent stuff to be making those sorts of "He is worse then Nickelback" claims.

neil is popular amongst all age groups in the north of england. he's a karaoke staple and pretty much everyone i know likes/loves him. it's an odd phenomenon. even my 10 year old nephew knows the lyrics to at least 3 or 4 of his songs.

i think his 2 most recent albums have been really great. i love the energy you mention...i love the jazz singer...his combover. i just heart neil for being one heck of a performer!

That's what's appealing about Diamond - His passion. He sings the shit out of everything.

16 Songs is a masterpiece, and probably one of the best albums of the past several years. "Hell Yeah" is gut wrenching.

I've actually subscribed on a craig's list to escort someone with an extra Diamond ticket for his local show here later this month since I can't afford a flat-out ticket. If I can find just one desperate housewife who is ticked about getting stood up for that date, I'll be gold.

Here's an unpopular opinion: I have never taken Metallica seriously. I can listen to the first album on a jokey level, but I just can't take it seriously at all. Hetfield's voice always gave the band this extra cheesy sound. He's a terrible singer... I know metal isn't known for good vocals, but come on, Ozzy was great with Sabbath and Mike Patton is a versatile performer who can do the best growls as well as croon. That and Lars Ulrich is the most overrated drummer of all time. He ain't shit without a double-bass peddle. Proof? Look up his shitastic solo on youtube. Just terrible.

I usually "discover" bands long before anyone else. I can predict - uncannily -who is and who isn't going to be successful at least 6 months before anyone I know has ever heard of them. Then...

...once they become famous, I am duty bound to disdain the band forever. I swear, I just dump them like they were Jennifer Aniston. I deny any knowledge of ever having liked them. Know why? I'm a fucking snob. I hate populist music - aside from a few notable exceptions - and would rather admit to wanking over picture of Martin Short than listen to the bands again.

And here is the big secret: Most of you also feel that you also discover bands and that they belong to you and you alone. Fame is an act of betrayal.

Unpopular, maybe, but not totally unique. If you look through my posts in this forum, you will see that we have the same position, one I've maintained for 25 years. I've hated those guys since they were pizza faced teenagers with an EP, and the main reason is that clod Hetfield. Their covers of Whiskey In The Jar and Turn The Page are just beyond wretched.

To be fair, metal really isn't known for good vocals. That's an opinion that most people who aren't fans of metal hold, or so I've found from my own personal experience. It may be a misconception, I'm not saying the subgenre isn't full of great vocalist, just that that's not what it's known for.
