Tori Amos: Northern Lad
I love Tori Amos' voice more than almost any other. From the Choirgirl Hotel isn't her best album, but this is a wonderful track, which also just happens to include, about midway through, one of my favourite uses of profanity in music. The drawn out "fucking" is incredibly sexy.

The Cardigans: And Then You Kissed Me
A difficult song to listen to, it's about singer Nina Persson's real life experience of a violent relationship, beautifully played and sung, but extremely harsh and depressing.

Echobelly: Great Things
One of the bands I've recently rediscovered through my current project of listening to a lot of albums I missed in the 90's. A solid, if lightweight, pop record.

Portishead: Glory Box [Live]
Beth Gibbons could sing the phone book and it would be compelling, but this rendition of one of Portishead's finest moments is one of the best things she's comitted to record.

Saint Etienne: Pale Movie
Saint Etienne are one of THE great pop bands, and this is a perfect example of why, a danceable track with Sarah Cracknell's girlish vocals along with some smart lyrics about a mismatched couple. Lovely.

Arab Strap: Speed Date
Aidan Moffat; Scotland's poet laureate of misery and dysfunction. Here, in his usual hillarious fashion Moffat addresses modern relationships. The lyrics are as sharply insightful as they are funny [so called Dr Gray's a billionaire because he's got the sexes sussed / we're a different race we can't communicate and mindgames are a must] and he does it all in the three minute span of a single speed date.

The Song Remains the Same by Led Zeppelin - ~ - A classic tune, indeed. Jimmy Page's army of guitars never ceases to amaze me. "I had a dream..."

The Man In the Green Shirt by Weather Report - ~ - Crazy free-jazz that makes me feel a little more free, myself.

Enemies With Me by 2pac - ~ - What can be said about the greatest rap artist of all-time. All his songs speak to me in such a beautiful way. I miss this man.

Moses of the South by Colour Revolt - ~ - A fantastic Mississippi band that I can't quite describe. Like a heavy Modest Mouse or something... Great song here, as well. Taking it down to a little acousticness, which I can dig.

Cemetary Walk (Live) by Umphrey's McGee - ! ~ Ah! A live tune from my favorite live band alive. Cemetary Walk is a fantastic track from their newest album that really showcases the new sound they mastered on their latest release.

4 Minute Warning by Radiohead - ~ - Ah. My shuffle sends me off with a beautiful little ditty from In Rainbows... How appropriate... What a fantastic song.
