Best/Worst Bond Films

I've seen all the Bond films. Throughout growing up they were never off the TV and I'm usually first in line to see the latest one a the cinema.

I know a lot of people are going to go with Sean Connery as the best bond. I grew up with Roger Moore as bond, so I can see the merit in both of them. Nevermind the best bond though, that discussion could go on for days.

What about the best and worst bond films?

Best:
From Russia with Love
You Only Live Twice
Live and Let Die
Living Daylights
Goldneye
Tomorrow Never Dies
Casino Royale

Worst:
Never Say Never Again (does that count?)
View to a Kill
Octopussy
Diamonds are Forever
The World is Not Enough
Die Another Day

I know The Man with the Golden Gun is generally reviled, but I always kinda liked it, or maybe I've been swayed by the Golden Gun mode in N64 Goldneye ;-)

Also, Quantum of Solace really wasn't that bad!

My favorites are Goldfinger, Casino Royale, Thunderball and Goldeneye.

My least favorites are Moonraker, Die Another Day and A View to a Kill.

And I kind of enjoyed Octopussy, as well as The Man with the Golden Gun (though the latter's problem is it's quite dated, moreso than others).

I just don't get all the hate for A View to a Kill, I'd put it in my top five. Great set-pieces, good story and a bit of a darker edge than some of the other stuff that Moore did.

My faves would be Casino Royale, From Russia with Love, For your Eyes Only.

I have to admit, embarrassingly enough, I haven't seen all the Bond flicks. One film I don't see people really loving is On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which is one of my favorites.

Only.
For me, it was a combination of Grace Jones, Tonya Roberts, and it was the Moore movie where he was too old. The story isn't bad, Walken is good, but the Bond girls were weak and Moore should have retired as Bond at this point.

I've seen it, but it's been a long time. So much so that I've forgotten a lot about it (except the ending, can't forget the ending).

Been years since I've seen On Her Majesty's Secret Service, I really have to revisit it, but I don't remember enjoying it at the time.

And what's the deal with Never Say Never Again? Is that like an "unofficial" bond film with Sean Connery wearing a wig? It's never included in Bond boxsets.

Casino Royale
Goldeneye
Goldfinger
From Russia With Love
Thunderball
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Licence to Kill
Dr. No
The Living Daylights
Live and Let Die

Worst:

Octopussy
A View to a Kill
Die Another Day
The Man With the Golden Gun
Moonraker

I think Licence to Kill, The Living Daylights, and On Her Majesty's Secret Service are the most underrated of the Bond films. I will defend any of them until the day I die. I love Lazenby and Dalton, I feel they are highly under-appreciated. Moore is by far my least favorite.

Like I said i haven't even seen all of the Bond flicks. When I was a youngster though the guy at the local video store said I had to watch On Her Majesty's Secret Service because Bond actually gets married in it. It seems to me that the movie is a bit of an outlier, only film Bond gets married (i think?), only film Lazenby does as Bond, only Bond flick Hunt directed etc... So it has some oddball appeal to me. Along with being more realistic than the others.

I agree, I've slways thought that Dalton was vastly under-rated as Bond. He brought a hard edge to him which has been missing. Most like what Bond would look like if he was an actual person in my opinion.

I've probably seen only about half of them. Maybe even a little less than that.

I also have to confess that I've tried to watch From Russia with Love a few times but just wasn't able to to get though it.

The recent Unpopular Opinion article on Die Another Day made me watch it again after years, just to see if it wasn't as all bad as it's reputation.

What a mistake that was.

I mean, plenty of Bond films have been campy and cheesy before, but DAD takes it to a whole new level of suckage. It's cheesy without one ounce of the charm or wit you would find in a Roger Moore era film. Hate on Moore all you want but the guy had charisma and charm and no matter how bad some of his films were (I love Moonraker) he never put on a bad show. He sold even his most silly of one liners and double entendres with class and sly wit.
DAD is just plain old stupid. I mean, its BAD. Some of the stunts and science in the film are so bad it even makes other Bond films look realistic in comparison. Brosnan is at his worst here. He seems to have given up at this point. This plays out more like a parody of a Bond film then an actual Bond film.
Say what you will about Moonraker, that flick at least felt like it was in on the joke (to me at least, it is one of the first Bond flicks I ever saw so I have an affection for it) but Die Another Day is one of those bad films that just doesn't know it's bad. And the less said about Madonna's song the better.
For a while I had Diamonds Are Forever as my least favorite of the series, but after re-watching this pile of dookie, Diamonds moved up a notch.

I liked the one where he travels around the world, screws at least two beautiful women, and kills the bad guy.

I never understood the hate for Die Another Day. It's my second favorite Bond movie after Goldeneye - and the way I see it, it's like Goldeneye on crack.

Top Five:

1 - Goldeneye
2 - Die Another Day
3 - The Spy Who Loved Me
4 - A View to a Kill
5 - Casino Royale

Bottom Five

1 - Dr. No
2 - From Russia With Love
3 - For Your Eyes Only
4 - Live and Let Die
5 - Tomorrow Never Dies

Starting with the best and worst of each category. Moore is my least favorite, and Dalton was unfairly maligned in his day. And I've always wondered what OHMSS could've been with Connery in the lead. Cheers to 50 years.

Best -
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (still my favorite Bond)
From Russia with Love
Goldfinger
Skyfall
Casino Royale
Goldeneye
The Spy Who Loved Me
For Your Eyes Only
Octopussy
The Living Daylights
Licence to Kill
You Only Live Twice
Dr. No

Worst -
A View to a Kill (easily the worst)
Die Another Day
Moonraker
The Man with the Golden Gun
Live and Let Die
Diamonds Are Forever
Thunderball
Quantum of Solace
The World Is Not Enough (borderline)
Tomorrow Never Dies (borderline)
