Being in the military doesn't make you Superman
We've all ran across these assholes plenty of times before, especially the Marines, which from my own personal experience with them that branch seems to have the highest ratio of assholes with God complexes.
I'm sure at least a few of you have been to parties where one of these chumps takes it upon themselves to be the party's official bouncer even if nobody appointed them, and even if God forbid they don't even know the person/persons who live there that threw the party in the first place. Their friends all stand around them with their Coronas taking turns sucking his dick by asking him how many kills he got, how much pussy he got, etc, etc. The marine's friends always love to interrupt random conversations by saying "Hey you don't want to fuck with that guy over there he's a Marine he'll kick your ass" to which you reply "Ummm, okay, that's cool....so anyways Jake what did you think about last night's game?" If you've ever had an accident and spilled the slightest little drop of beer, they are the ones who always violently grab your arm and say "HEY MOTHERFUCKER CLEAN THAT SHIT UP WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE I'M A MARINE YOU DON'T WANNA FUCK WITH ME DURRRR" before you even have a chance to bend over and clean it up. One of my biggest pet peeves are people who walk around thinking they're so fucking big and bad, regardless if they really are or not. I consider humility to be a great virtue that everyone should have. Raw physical strength and big muscles aren't everything, a quick crazy psychotic motherfucker can kick you in the nuts and gauge your eyes out just as easy as Mike Tyson can. And before any smartass even dare tries to come in here and accuse me of "generalization", I fucking know that not all marines are like that. There. |

I would urge any marine acting like that to read Eugene Sledge's "With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa" and then tell them to get back to you.

So you're saying you hate assholes. I do too. I especially hate assholes associated with physical activities like gym assholes or jock assholes or army assholes because they have a better chance of being bigger or stronger than me, which makes their assholeness harder to stomp.
Otherwise I have no problem with people being proud of their service, or with others who are impressed by it. |

My brother is a Marine and he is UNBELIEVABLY cocky. I still love him, but I literally get sick of him after 5 minutes. Thank god he lives at the other end of the state.

I was in the Marine Corps for 7 years and I can not stand the kinds of people you describe, but I've not found them to be THAT common. I mean they do exist, but I've only heard about a story or two where something like this has occured.
And as far as everyone sucking that person's dick at a party... normally it's not the person's fault. The person bragging about them is usually a close friend or relative and in my case it caused me embarrassment as opposed to self-congratulations. And if it isn't a friend or a relative it usually comes out anyway when they're asked what they do for work. What I find more common(and annoying) though is people who join mainly for the praise they'll recieve for it. I appreciate the great respect our military gets in this country but I can't help but feel awkward when strangers shake my hand and thank me for their freedom. "The Lucky Ones" does a good job at portraying this. Last edited by EVILxxx; 02-08-2010 at 01:26 AM.. |

^See I have a problem with guys like you because you look like you might break my back with a hug. BoxManShoes, would you have cared if the assholes at the party were some skinny guys you could step on with your boot? A person's bad behavior is amplified when they're tough. Just watch Predator.

Wow. People sign up for the armed forces...and whilst I really do appreciate what they do - providing they are doing it for the right reasons - it's not as though they have been drafted. I hate all these sycophantic facebook groups dedicated to "our lads"...bleurgh. |

Right here. My biggest beef with them is how they always (at least around here) want credit for doing what they do. Look boy, if you were drafted, I'd thank you. But you signed up. You volunteered. So stop wearing your fatigues to Wal-Mart, you little attention whore. |

My thoughts exactly.
I appreciate that the troops are putting themselves at risk for the nation's sake, and I don't wish a single one any harm. But as was said earlier, doing this is trolling for attention. It just strikes me that a soldier should be more humble about his or her duties, not go out of their way to say, "I'M SAVING YOUR FUCKING LIVES, ASSHOLES!" Both soldiers and civilians should be considerate of the other party. |

Marines are great in my eyes. And I know a number of them I went to high school with and none of them are remotely cocky. Infact they are insanely humble and polite. And they dont "brag" about what they did over in Iraq or Afghanistan and I sure as hell wouldnt ask them gory details about their times there out of respect.
I do hate aggressive aholes at parties though. I am sure we all do. I find that most of them sell insurance for a living though. And no I am not kidding. |

Never met any marines (why would I, I'm british) but I know alot of people that are in the forces, while most of them are humble about it. You do get the odd chav fuckhead that only over there to kill things, rather than trying to make a difference.

I worked with a guy who was in the Marines. He was a fucking dildo. Always talking about the things he did, where he was, blah blah blah. Sure, it's always interesting to hear a FIRST take on things, but after talking about it constantly and bringing it up whenever shoplifters were caught (we were both security/loss prevention) and whatnot, it got real fucking old. He was constantly hot-headed about shit, thinking he could take on the fucking world. I verbally ripped his ass apart a few times (I was the lead security guy) and he tried using his presence to frighten me or intimidate me (mind you, he was a bigger guy...but intimidation is something that doesn't affect me in the slightest). We didn't see eye-to-eye a whole lot because he hadn't a fucking clue what to do about a lot of things. One time he saw a couple of other Marines and randomly struck up conversation with them like they were buddies. It then turned into some sort of fraternization and macho-ness...seriously, I'm not making this up.
I do have a buddy of mine who was in the Navy S.E.A.L.S. He's a cool guy, until you piss him off. |

The ones who brag about their exploits usually haven't seen much combat or are embellishing. The guys who have don't prefer to talk about it.

Around Toronto i see maybe one or two guys in there fatigues a year and they usually have a a huge bag of stuff with them so i just assume they are traveling to or from what ever base they are stationed at.
Wouldn't be surprised though if some of them were just wearing them to try and pick up chicks at the mall or something, lol. |

The marines aren't as bad as those who work for private military contractors. I personally know someone who was in Blackwater (now known as Xe) and the stereotype for the most part is true; these people really are bloodthirsty animals who kill for the thrill of it. The stories he told me, and the way he told them to me, pretty much confirmed this. He was a pretty cool dude when you didn't piss him off, but he was also unstable and psychotic, not to mention a raging cokehead.

I don't know, I never asked him. He did however brag about how he and his buddies did all the coke they wanted while shredding the constitution overseas with his CIA buddies knowingly and willingly taking a blind eye to all of it.

Just read on Huffington Post that an ex-employee of Blackwater admitted to Blackwater using American tax dollars for prostitutes, which doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Expect to eventually hear allegations against them buying cocaine with our tax dollars.

I have a close family friend who's in the Canadian Armed Forces. He's a stand-up guy and a great hockey player. And from the majority of soldiers that I've seen or met, I think it's rare to find people unlike my friend who are in the armed forces. But they are around...
I was in Belleville 2 years ago eating at a Swiss Chalet with a group of my friends, and three tables away from us were three military guys eating lunch. The entire time they were loud, obnoxious and rude to the waitress. By the end of their meal, they demanded a discount on their meals because they were in the military and they were dead-serious on getting it. As if serving in the military grants you any special rights that any other citizen shouldn't get... I think the sad part about some officers in the military is that their being labelled "national heroes" are going straight to their heads and turning them into assholes. They are using their job as a means of getting appreciation and benefits where, in my eyes, they don't deserve it. And I think it's our fault for encouraging the view that soldiers are "gods-among-men" and "heroes" of the nation, because it will just go straight to the heads of a number of soldiers that will turn them into stuck-up asswipes. To me, it's wrong to honour people just because they happen to choose a hazardous job. The only way people earn my gratitude is if they're decent individuals who are gracious, kind and polite in public. I could care less where you work or what everyone else thinks of you; if you're a dick, you get no respect from me. I'm just grateful that my friend hasn't turned into jackass military man like those I saw a couple years ago. Though he does owe me $30 for covering his bar tab last year...and he hasn't paid that back ![]() |

True that some military men are egocentric dicks, but what I'm ranting about are the egocentric dicks who think they are invincible. The types who watch too much UFC and think big muscles and hard punches are all it takes to bring someone down. The ones who always automatically assume they can whup your ass, regardless of never having fought you before or seeing you in a fight, because you know, being smaller than someone means you don't know how to physically defend yourself. I understand they teach effective means self-defense in the marines, but there are other forms of martial arts around the world, its just some of these arrogant servicemen I've encountered seem to think being in the military is the be-all, end-all of toughness.
