I expect to be in the minority, at least among arthouse fans, but I was really disappointed by the ending of Meek's Cutoff. Otherwise though, it's mesmerizing the whole way through, stunning to look at (if not for Tree of Life I'd say it'd be hard to beat), and really well-acted. It was great and for me just missed the mark of masterpiece at the conclusion. It's a really cool way for Reichardt to branch out too, adapting her sensibilities to a period piece, if you dug her last two films I'm sure you'll love it.

The Gleeson/Cheadle movie? Nah, it's not out here in the States and didn't play AFF or SXSW. Not sure they've set a release date yet but I heard very good things.

I really loved The Conspirator, despite the reviews.

Meek's Cutoff is out in LA this weekend!! It's #1 on my list right now.

Well said. As it faded to black, I said to myself, "that can't be the end!", but it was. I loved it up to that point.

I thought The Tree of Life was an absolute masterpiece, and I wasn't even aware of who Terrence Malick was until after I saw the film. Rango comes in second as my favorite film of the year so far, but the gap between The Tree of Life and Rango is enormous, despite me loving both.

Still have LOTS to catch up on (Melancholia, Take Shelter, Meek's Cutoff, Ides of March, Tree of Life, 50/50, Super 8, Jane Eyre, Warrior, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia, Meek's Cutoff, The Interrupters, The Descendants, Midnight in Paris, Martha Marcy May Marlene to name the ones I can remember) so there are a few categories where I'm straining to find five worthy nominations (notably Supporting Actress)

As I'm in Canada, I'm counting 13 Assassins, Uncle Boonmee, and Incendies as 2010 films. Otherwise, Incendies would sweep pretty much all the categories, at least so far.

I have yet to see dozens of films that I'm dying to see this year. So this list is totally temporary.

Best Films:
Drive
Super 8
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Insidious
I Saw the Devil
Like Crazy
X-Men First Class
Red State

I don't want to list other categories just yet because I'm dying to catch up on flicks like Tree of Life, Shame, 50/50, Moneyball, We Need To Talk About Kevin, The Descendents...the list goes on and on.

I don't get the love The Descendants is getting. It's not terrible but it's really nothing all that great either. George Clooney is excellent in it, no doubt, but the supporting cast is so one-dimensional, and the young girl and the teenage boy are just annoying as hell.
