As you can tell, I am very pleased with Leo's look in the film.

I would say so since you got him in your avatar
And I agree, Leo's got the look in this one. I have no doubt that he'll deliver

Saw that avatar coming a mile away. Congrats on snagging it first.

It's an effing great picture.

Jamie Foxx looks confused though. And let's not forget that Waltz looks like a badass as well, he's got some terrific terrific lines in the movie.

SBC leaves due to scheduling issues and Kurt Russell leaves for unknown reasons. A little late in the game, don't you think? Those aren't small roles either.

If Cohen was meant to play Scotty Harmony then there's no way that's just a cameo. Either QT changed the character drastically, or SBC's ego got enlarged.

Russell's departure cuts way deeper though. Ace Woody is a cunt of a character and Russell would have been pretty perfect for it.

Damn, this isn't great news.

We're left with Leo and Jamie Foxx?

Ouch. This movie will probably be a flop.

Those two aren't getting my money so I will not be going to see this.

What about Jonathan Banks (from Breaking Bad) taking over for Kurt Russel? I haven't read the script but I think Banks could pull off the role

This shit doesn't make any sense. Unless Tarantino made some serious re-writes to the draft that has been circling the net, Ace Woody and Scotty cannot simply be cut from the film. They are important characters.

Wasn't he one of the main henchmen in Beverly Hills Cop?

Yeah, that'd be him rocknblues.

Bummed that Russell is out. Would've been quite nice seeing him collaborate with QT. How about Mickey Rourke? sorta like a trade off. Rourke was supposed to do Death Proof, replaced by Kurt Russell... now Russell is out, replace him with Mickey. Works out for both.

Word around the campfire is that Walton Goggins' character, Billy Crash, has been re-written to the point that he has taken over most of what the character Ace Woody did in the film.

Interesting.

Couldn't care less about this movie ... i like the old Tarantino but lately he's only doing hommage movie.

He lost me at DJANGO since he had a small role in Sukiyaki Western Django ... a 2007 movie by Takashi Miike

check his scene right here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-81VrzGAlkQ

he should have called his new movie Rigatoni Unchained

Pretty much all of QT's films are homage films even the early ones.

Yeah but, Pulp Fiction, Res Dogs and Jackie Brown are nowhere near as blatant as Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds, and Death Proof. I can definitely see a huge shift with the Kill Bill films and onwards.

Django is somewhere in the middle from the script I read.

He's had Kill Bill in mind since Pulp Fiction days, Basterds wasn't new either, it was waiting to be produced. Death Proof is an exact homage to grindhouse though.

The jig is up. Theres probably a lot going on behind the scenes here. Maybe a bit of drama backstage, arguments and whatnot.

I hope that we get some more news on why things are going down the way they're going down. It wouldn't surprise me that Tarantino changed the script drastically.

The ending seemed to abrupt, and RZA was cast as a character not written in the script I read. I'm thinking the leaked script Is maybe only 60-70% the real movie. And what has been rewritten is upsetting some people.

Time will tell.

^I agree, something is obviously going on behind the scenes, like a VH1 special. Quentin seems to be driving away a lot of talent with this film, even people he's worked with before. Must be some issues with the script. I personally think Tarantino has been slipping since Kill Bill, he's probably surrounded by too many Yes-Men who have given him carte blanche because Pulp Fiction was so fucking cool. I think he needs to cut back on the self-indulgence and try writing a great movie again.

IB was better than Pulp Fiction which really isn't all that good when John and Sam are not on screen. Death Proof is not a great movie, but it's fun. So I don't really buy that QT is slipping.

There seems to be good reasons for Sacha and Levitt leaving. I think Costner and Russell are older conservative type guys and so this film might be too much for them. Costner hasn't done anything like this... And I'm not shocked that he dropped out. But it sucks about Russell.

Can't argue with your post at all man.

I still have some high hopes for this film but its obvious QT isnt the genius "It" guy that he once was in the 90s.

The biggest thing DU still has going for it is Leo as the villain which is a huge plus.

I don't think there's a lot going on behind the scenes. Other than some scheduling issues, the only thing I've heard until Russell leaving was how smoothly the shoot was going. Costner didn't work out from the start due to scheduling issues (this happens frequently with Tarantino films, which often take several months to shoot and require people to devote a significant amount of time to parts that may be very small). Hill is doing The End of the World and The Wolf of Wall Street, so that was never going to work out. Levitt is in pre-production on his directorial debut. Baron-Cohen has been doing a ton of press for The Dictator and by the sounds of it that role has gotten smaller. The only one that sounds a bit off is the Kurt Russell departure, which I'm sure we will find out more about soon (most of the sources that talk about it cite a fucking IMDB post).

Ultimately, you still have Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Kerry Washington, and Walton Goggins, among others. A few people from a very large cast dropping out is not out of the ordinary.

Look guys, we all know that actors are leaving the production because Quentin keeps going around trying to lick their feet. Frankly, I don't blame them.

I completely disagree. I think Inglourious Basterds is Quentin's second-best film, and one of the best films of the past decade (as is Kill Bill Vol. 1).

Costner dropped out two months before the film even started shooting. JGL well before dropping out said that he "hoped he could" do the film, already expressing uncertainty as to whether his impending directorial debut could accommodate the role. Then Sacha Baron Cohen has a perfectly plausible (albeit stupid) excuse, that of promoting his latest film, which he has been doing nonstop the past week or so, as anyone who turns on their television can confirm.

That leaves Kurt Russell's fishy departure, which could be for all we know a decision of Tarantino's, to streamline the film by reducing the number of characters, or unhappiness with the performance, or any number of possibilities. Or maybe it's a diva fit. Or maybe two actors couldn't get along. Who knows?

I know I'm in the minority, but I hated Kill Bill. I think Tarantino made a really irresponsible film that just glorified revenge while ripping off better films. It also should have been cut by 45 minutes and recut as one movie. Oldboy is the quintessential revenge movie of the last decade.

Different strokes I guess
I did find the anime part in Kill Bill to be awesome (as was Lucy Liu's character) but I just couldn't get into it like I could his earlier films. The dialogue didn't seem as "cool" as his previous scripts if that makes any sense.

Anyway, I am still absolutely stoked for Django Unchained and hope we can still get an XMas day release.

Oh, I find Kill Bill Vol. 1 emotionally flat to a some degree, but it's so exuberant, stylistically wonderful, and masterfully composed that I can't complain about it.

I dunno about anyone else, but I'm absolutely giddy that Walton Goggins is getting a larger role in this. Anyone who's seen his work on Justified will know that he'll absolutely murder it.

The word is that it's very, very, VERY good. Fans of Inglorious Basterds and Kill Bill should rejoice because it seems like the entertainment level is on par with those two. Everyone seems like they are on top of their game but two people stood out:

Leonardo DiCaprio, apparently sporting some gnarly teeth and using the N word as often as cowboys spit.

and

Don Jonson. LOL. Can you imagine? Apparently they got to see a bit of Jonson in his role of slave master Big Daddy and he will completely surprise us. His southern accent is also spot on and terrific.

Waltz and Foxx are also very good, Foxx turning into a bad ass without much effort and Waltz, though channeling his last Tarantino character a bit, having loads of fun.

So, this is pretty exciting stuff. Also, Harvey Weinstein says there is still room for "surprise" cameos and supporting guest stars.

Goldderby recently did an interview with Walton Goggins. It was mostly about Justified and the emmy's and a little bit about The Shield. But he did say a few things about his role in this and Spielberg's Lincoln. Both likely to be among my favorite movies of the year. Anyway, can't wait for a trailer! If it's before Prometheus then it should hit the web within a week or a week and a half, right?
