Good Movie Marathons?

I haven't been to or seen one at home in a very long time.
What are some good movie marathons? And what types are there?

For example: All 3 Matrix movies (entire series mrathon)
Another example: The 5 best movies from a particular director or actor.

Example: Christian Bale - Batman Begins,TDK, Equilibrium, American Psycho, Fighter

Example: Arnie - Terminator 2, Conan, Running Man, True Lies, Totall Recall.

Director marathon, Ridley Scott - Alien, Bladerunner, Gladiator, Duellists, American Gangster

You get the idea. So, gimme some good marathons please.

Usually when I think marathon I think at least 5 movies or more. Watching 3 movies and calling it a marathon just don't fly with me.

That being said here are a few good ones to have.

Bond marathon
Rocky marathon
80's movie marathon (nothing but 80's movies)

The Lord of the Rings Extended Editions marathon is an absolute blast...just sucks you right into that world and is just an incredible trilogy. I think the total runtime is around 12 hours....

As much as I fucking loathe anything that is Lord of the Rings, I can see how a fan would really enjoy watching that from beginning to end at some point seeing how it is more of one movie as a whole rather than a three part trilogy.

I actually understand why you hate it, I have many friends that are not fans of "genre" movies like this, where I can't imagine movies without them...to each his own. It's not my favorite movie of all time but I just get completely swept away by it when I watch it every couple of years.

I had this one the other night:

The Last Castle - The Sting - Cool Hand Luke

Here's one I'm working on, the Asylum films. Those trash movies like Mega Piranha, Transmorphers, Allan Quatermain and the Temple of Skulls, Titanic 2, etc.

I had this marathon recently and loved it; if "Stephen King" is attached to a film it's usually extremely entertaining/creepy/engaging.

I completely agree with the Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogy. That is probably my favorite film marathon and it's such an epic journey. I also love to marathon the Potter films (soon to be an epic 8-film series.)

Dig up all your war movies and organize them in chronological order and im not talking the year they were made but the year the events of the films took place and then start plowing through from earliest till the latest.

I know this isn't quite what you're asking, but occasionally I want to watch a lot of completely random films and sometimes play the "what links these 2 films" game.

Example

Fight Club - Edward Norton stars
The Illusionist - Paul Giamatti
Cinderella Man ... and so on

80s marathons are generally fun (fantasy, teen comedy, action)

More specifically John Carpenter : Escape From New York, Big Trouble Little China, The Thing, The Fog

Or Pixar films : Toy Story 2, Incredibles, Monsters Inc, Wall-E

Or Rock & Roll films : A Hard Days Night, Purple Rain, Spinal Tap, The Wall

Or Spielberg : E.T., Raiders, Jaws, Close Encounters

I really like watching director marathons, I find it fascinating to watch how a director's technique evolves with each movie which is why I really enjoy watching them order.

P.T.A - Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love & There Will Be Blood. This was one of my best cinema experiences, watching how PTA moves his camera in each film and how he has recurring themes was amazing.

Scorsese - Mean Streets, Alice Doesnt Live Here Anymore, After Hours, Colour of Money, Last Temptation of Christ. With this one, I tried to watch Scorsese's lesser seen films and watch how they differ from his commercial successes

I've organized three marathons with friends in the past. The first was a zombie movie marathon. I chose Dawn of the Dead (Original), Return of the Living Dead, Dead Snow, Re-Animator, and Shaun of the Dead.

Went swimmingly.

The second was an 80s fantasy marathon with Legend, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, The NeverEnding Story and Conan the Barbarian to top it off with a bit of the old ultraviolence.

and the third was the return of the zombie movie marathon with a few favorites from the last time and a few new additions. Namely Night of the Living Dead, Day of the Dead. I ended the night with the ultimate in zombie mayhem. Dead Alive. So glad they dug that one

Lord of the Rings Challenge

I did not read through all of the posts so i don't know if anybody said this but the challenge is to watch the entire Lord of the Rings (extended version) Trilogy and consuming a 30 rack to your dome piece by the time it is all over. I have attempted this challenge two times. the first time I thought I was manly enough and went out the night before. The next morning was tough when we started around 10. I barely made it to 15. My second time I said no fucking around. The night before I skipped the party and watched some class A adult entertainment while touching myself ever so gently. I was extremely sleepy afterwards and called the night nice and early. I woke up the next morning extremely refreshed. I made a NECESSARY snack run where i loaded up on Bugles and candy bars, along with a nice cold delicious 30 rack of Bud Light and me and two friends sat down once again to attempt the challenge. By the end of the fellowship, me and my fellowship of drunk college kids, where already done with 15 beers. Which is well above the 10 beer a movie pace. I thought I was golden to finish this challenge until 3 beers later I don't remember the rest of my day. The last part I remember of The Two Towers was when Merry and Pippin escaped into Fangorn Forest. Anyway i woke up in my own house the next morning and immediately wondered if I had finished the challenge. Now things get sad here, we all did not complete the challenge. I got to 28 beers. I walked back into my friends house and saw the two lonely beers sitting by each other next to crumbs of bugles and half eaten candy bars. I felt so defeated. So please somebody revenge me. I am getting too old for this shit and my liver, self esteem, and dignity can not take another hit like that. Now let me list some rules and fun tidbits to the game:

1) When you finish a beer you make your empty beer can's into Gandalf's wizard staff so when you are drunk you fight each other.

2)At the beginning of the film you each pick a character and drink when your character does something specific to their personality. (examples: Samwise: gives a gay look to Frodo or thinks about food)

3) Applies to Rule 2: If you belittles your race you have to drink.

4) Between each movie somebody MUST do a ceremonial dance of your choosing to celebrate the finishing of the first movie.

5) DO NOT DIE

6) If you do die, sorry

7) You MUST finish the 30 rack by yourself

Thank you! That is all1

That one looks wicked! I'll have to try it once I finally get around to seeing Ong Bak 3.

I was thinking of also doing a Bruce Lee marathon of Fists Of Fury, The Chinese Connection, Return Of The Dragon and Enter The Dragon. I wouldn't include Game Of Death because Bruce is only in the end fight scenes of it.
