Minor Rant On Movie Sequel Titles

Does anybody else get a bit tired of corny or unnecessary movie sequel titles?
I do. Some of them are just silly. Or they're just not needed.

Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall?
Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows?

Despite its unpopularity, Ironman 2 ws a film I enjoyed for what it was. And it didn't have a tacked on name after it. I dunno. Maybe it's just me. I recall Monotreme commenting on the new Sherlock Holmes movie's title in another topic. So, I guess that I am not the only one that thinks this way.

What's wrong with just "Kick-Ass 2"?

"Kick Ass 2" is news to me as well!
I thought the original was surprisingly good...I say "surprisingly" good because the commercials looked awful.

It's not the title I'm worried about....I hope it's a proper sequel and not a quickie cash-in with all new characters.

Fast & Furious
The Final Destination

Probably the most unimaginative sequel titles ever.

And I agree with you. Ever since the early 2000s it seems like filmmakers feel the need to tack a semi-colon with something lame after it I would prefer just Kick-Ass 2 etc. as well. The subtitle for that movie in particular is just...awful. I hope it changes.

Oh yeah. That's just complete laziness.

The subtitle for the new Transformers movie also sounds lame. Dark of the Moon sounds more like a Castlevania game.

Those are the ones that probably annoy me the most. It's like they get so far into a movie series that they give up on the titles and either add or remove "the" from the title. It's so confusing. Is it a reboot? A remake? A sequel?

Also annoying now are all the 3D movie sequels that tack on 3D at the end and disregard the actual number movie it would be. Like the new Silent Hill 3D. It just makes me think they either forgot about part 2 (when in fact in this case it is part 2) or it's the first movie and just in 3D. Saw 3D was probably the worst though. I guess they were afraid to title it "Saw VII 3D".

I usually prefer just tacking on a number (or better: a Roman numeral) onto a title. I don't mind the subtitles THAT much, some are clever, but most of the time unnecessary.

I work at a movie theater and I get the question "When is the Dark Knight 2 coming out." And I just want to slap them. Apparently most of America doesn't know that Batman Begins even exists and that the Dark Knight is technically Batman 2.
