10 years on a forum

...I kind of slept through it, but I do still graze here sometimes. I know the site as a whole has been around longer, but for a forum to hold my attention for that long, that's some good shit (and there are people who have been here a year longer, even).

Good on you Jo, & schmoes. Even if it's not the golden days, this place is the best online community I've ever come across. seriously, some really great discussion has happened here, and will continue, cause of some damn great people. keep it coming.

Ten years....wow. I've been her only 5 years. Even that's a fairly long time. It's a chunk of your life, so to speak. Hell, I remember my first post without even looking it up. Good onya, man. I take my hat off to you for being here that long, and for being an important part of this truly great online movie community. Here's to another 10 years? Possibly. Who knows, hmm?

You even still sport the avatar I made you years ago. XD

I always think of these things in terms of percentage of my total life lived, and it seems more substantial. Then wild when considering that percentage will just keep getting bigger.

Happy 1-0, Ric! You still remain the only schmoe whose user name story has made its way into my real life conversations.

Only started to post on the forums last year but I've been reading this site since 2005/6 and you can't get any better with geeky movie sites then Joblo. The members are so wonderful that I wish some members such as Postmaster General/Bubba Strangelove and Brando@$$fat were neighbors of mine. This fourm has so few assholes that make my time even more enjoyable then with other forums I've been member of.

Thanks Joblo and the Arrow. I really love what you've done to one of the coolest forums on the web.

I've also been here 10 years. Fantastic community and I still come here all the time. It's been great watching this site grow and progress over the years. It looked so different back in 2001.

Keep up the great work.

It's pretty amazing to have a site you check daily for close to 15 years. Then to harbor a message board that can function for 10+ years.....icing on top.

The only other movie based forum of any significance is IMDB and we've avoided being even close that that obnoxiously bad, so that's something. I do miss the early years of my membership here though, when hundreds of members were online instead of 8.

I'm on 8 years. My post's were terrible when I was 15, and now they are just moderately acceptable.

8 years

Been lurking on the site since late 1999. Then joined the forums in 2001. It's been a great decade. I've always enjoyed informing friends or correcting them on movie stuff from things I've read on JoBlo.com. Then I tell them I read it from JoBlo.com and they always think it's some porn website lmao.

I've met some incredible folks on here. It's funny how I scroll through threads now and stop when I see familiar names that I've known for years on these threads. More out of respect, even if I disagree with a comment I'll still read them.

10+ year club! Party at JoBlo's place!

^ lol, my friends always think I'm discussing a porn site when I mention 'JoBlo' as well. Wonder what my employers think I'm browsing on when they see "www.joblo.com" in the history (considering I spend half my work-day replying to threads)

I think that members with 10 years should be mailed a coffee mug or a tshirt or something from Joblo or Arrow, would be a nice thank you for us sticking around all these years!

I've been here a hell of a long time as well. I lurked in 2000, joined under a now abandoned username in 2001 and due to a change in email servers in 2006, created a new username. Either way, I've skipped maybe a total of three months worth of days in those years when I didn't check the boards. Whether it was arguments, agreements, pokes, prods, or cyber high-fives, this place has been and hopefully will continue to be my online movie life blood. Cheers!!!

Hit 10,000 posts with this one (and it only took me 11 years). I've been on the forums nearly half my life now, which is crazy to think about when I put it that way. I definitely credit this site and the people on it with contributing to my love and understanding of movies. As a young burgeoning filmmaker, coming here was more than just an entertaining trifle.

So thanks to Jo, all the schmoes and schmoettes for contributing to this great community that's kept me coming back all this time. To quote Mr. Spielberg, "I love Joblo.com."

Gotta jump on as well and just say that JoBlo's by far the one site I've stuck to the longest. My post count isn't much and is bettered by people who've been here for two years or less, but I lurk more than I post and i have months where other parts of my life take over.

I love a good movie discussion and I've had plenty on this board, with some of the most knowledgable people I've never had the pleasure of meeting in person.

Thanks goes out to all the regulars, the mods and the admins of the site who've contributed to making an online home for me a happy place to visit. The power of movies is a wonderful thing.

I spent about a year looking at the site before I made an account. I lost it, and a year later I joined again. I can't believe it's been 10 years. Insane.

Sadly I probably have a little more longevity, than some others. What makes that even more pathetic is I also have fewer posts than a majority of Schmoes, but granted a lot of my older posts have probably been excised due to thread eliminations and/or site overhauls. My 12th anniversary is in November, just in time for my 36th birthday. Yay?

Yeah this is definitely the site that has outlasted all other sites I visit. I really started getting into movies at around the same time as I joined this forum so I cannot emphasize just how influential this board and the discussions with people here have been on my taste in film.

Gotta say, do miss the days when these boards were crazy active. Now there's so many other distractions online I guess (Facebook, Twitter for example) and so many different film communities that it's all fractured. Also, I guess message boards and discussing things in-depth are kind of out of style. I don't think we've gotten a lot of prominent new members in the past few years. There seems like more strikebackers than posters though. It might help if JoBlo makes a post selling the forums on the front page once in a while, the same way they did when Movie Fan Central went up. I'd love to see these forums thrive again.

Some months may be busier than others but I can't imagine a time when I will stop coming/stop posting. We're by far the best film community online imo and the most passionate group. Glad to know y'all. So cheers to that.

And the new members that do join head straight for MFC. I don't know if they don't realize there are discussion forums with this site or would just rather post status updates and what not. It's a shame, I remember when these boards were consistently slammed with schmoes itching to put in their two cents. A few are still around, but not nearly as many as there used to be.

Ahhh, how the times are a'changing.

That, I think, has been true now since the explosion of social media.

I lurked joblo for a solid 3-4 years before ever signing up. it was my main source of desktop wallpapers long before it was my favorite forum. Since joining I've left, came back, left again, been a moderator, left a third time, and come back again. I love this site, and those of you who have been here for the long haul, I love you in some obscure way too. Especially Big Red, who was the only other person who posted in the LOTR section with me. Thanks for that buddy.

Going on into my 11th year in a bit myself. I always have and always will love this movie fan community.
I remember the good old days, I used to always refer to myself in the third person for no reason, much to everyone's confusion.
Not much else I can say but, Joblo.com rules! And just for old time's sake, "ThereWolf" loves this website.

Ah the memories of the LOTR threads.

I haven't been around here for a while, but man...I grew up here.

It's good to come back once in a while and see it's still up and running. And many of the good ol' faces still posting after all these years.

Many kind thanks to the Masters of the Schmoeland for still having us over!

It will be 10 years for me when November hits. Don't even want to look at any threads or posts I made in the first year, "Horror Talk" nonsense or not. Was in my last year of high school at the time. High school was bad for me, but this place has been good and has helped me grow up a lot. Never really took any vacations from here. Couldn't stay away. Would stop posting for a while, but this place was always there for me. It was kind of big in the early 2000's, suddenly grew bigger in the mid-2000's, and has seriously slowed down lately. What a difference it makes when a lot of big-time schmoes move on or are banned. I miss, Countchocula. And I also miss C-Desecration. They were both critical of my work and were right about a lot of things. I never did reach 10,000 posts. Nor do any of you know my real name (whereas a lot of you do seem to know each other well). In a way, I remained an outsider no matter what I did. Perhaps because I am a far more creative person than a social one. But this place has been good to me. It helped me as a grow as a writer, whether it was fan-fiction threads you wanted or were sick of. Definitely wasted too much time on the "Horror Talk" stuff, but it led to the fan-fiction "Halloween" sequels, something I remain proud of.

It's about time. My real name is Nick. Hi. In turn, Nuke. My cool name. But I made a mistake when first registering and thus, Duke Nukem. Never once played that game.

Going on eleven years, though I haven't posted much in the last couple. Partly because the discussion board has died off and partly because I'm hardly interested in horror movies anymore. Shock! Still, this place holds a lot of nostalgic value for me so I still come back every few months.

This January coming will put me at the 7 year members mark. But like many others before me, I have been lurking, and Clayton's trolling since around the 2004 mark. IMDB was the very first movie related site/forum I ever joined. And that was back in March of 2001. So, if I had joined JB then, that would make it around 11 years for me. Oh the shame...

Right behind you God of War....member in 2006...clearly remember lurking during the productions of Batman Begins and Superman Returns. Even though I agree with people that say the discussion boards have died off a bit I'm still in love with this site...I'd say I get roughly 65-75% of my movie news from here, and pretty much do 100% of my online discussion here...

I'll never forget that first post after a year or two of just onlooking...the only thing I could try to compare it to is transferring to a new high school and raising your hand to answer the first question. Funny to look back on now....good times! MOVIES! F YEAH!
