people who bash other people for liking a movie

alright so i know that people have different opinions on everything ever but this is strictly movie related. i know its a bit of a trope but i just get super tired whenever someone asks "how could you even like that movie? whats wrong with you?" i saw bucky larson today and i'm not scared to admit that i laughed my ass off. i thought it was hilarious and even though its as idiotic as the westboro baptist church, i found it to be hilarious. of course, it is as well received as a video of a kitten being stomped on to death. i talked to some friends who saw it with me and i was the only one who liked it and immediately i received a bunch of "how could you even like that crap?" and the comparison i hear a lot is "you probably also like transformers." i dont think its fair to indicate that anyone who likes stuff like transformers or disaster movie is automatically a dumb person. i'm not a self-conceded but i don't consider myself dumb as i like a lot of well praised classics but it just gets tiring when people think youre dumb and wonder why you like something. its different tastes and i dont get why people cant get over that.

I have a lot more respect for a movie fan who can admit to finding enjoyment in a "bad" movie than those who just go with the general consensus so as to not look stupid/uneducated in other film fans eyes. Honesty is always the best policy. Different opinions are always interesting to read anyways.

I've admitted to enjoying plenty of films deemed "bad" by the general majority on these boards and I never cop flack for it. Nor do I give others shit when they like a film I couldn't stand. That's what I like about these boards. Agreeing/disagreeing sparks discussion and makes the place more interesting. I do think schmoes should be prepared to back up their opinions though. I'd prefer to see someone saying "I loved Batman & Robin because its cheesy, fast-paced popcorn fun" than "Batman & Robin sucked balls, bottom line."

Good for you man! I think you get it. Of course Bucky Larson is a shit bag of a movie, but that is not the point. The point is to laugh your ass off and if you did, then it did its job and you should like it.

I do the same thing with people who get off on watching fetish porn. How can people get all excited over watching feet? Sure it is wrong of me, but feet? What is wrong with these people?

The only thing I'll say for Bucky Larson is that I like that Adam Sandler doesn't star in it. I'm tired of him hogging all the bad movies. I say spread the wealth.

Getting back to the topic, there are lots of movies most people consider bad that I like. I say as long as I'm not bored watching a movie, then it's not a complete piece of shit.

One of the biggest offenders for me was the Tuxedo. I'll admit that if there are people that like that movie, I might question them on it. They better have a damn good reason for taking any enjoyment from it because Jackie Chan has had better movies. This one was by far the worst movie he has made. I was so fucking bored and Jennifer Love Hewitt annoyed the shit out of me.

For some people, it's easier (and for some messed up reason, cooler) to hate something rather than admit to liking it.

I like the Twilight Saga, certain parts I really get into and enjoy. I also liked Sucker Punch. So commence with the bashing, I'm a big girl I can take it. Hit me with your best shot!

While i usually respect the praise other people give about a movie i didn't enjoy , I will mostly smash them Hulk-style if they don't bother to explain why.

Yea! Now I don't feel so alone, but a rarity for a guy to admit to these movies! I commend you, Sir!

Well, it's wrong when they go the ad hominem route, or immediately assume that you indulge in every kind of guilty pleasure when it comes to movies. Still, that doesn't stop me from tearing some movies to shreds, or asking how someone could actually like I Heart Huckabees.

If people don't like a movie, its all good to me. You like something that I don't, and I don't feel to be the type that shoves my views down peoples' throats. However, I get a bit irked when people go "I don't get what you people like about this movie".

Of course you don't because we all have different viewpoints/tastes of what makes a movie great to us.

The general public has destroyed film just like they've destroyed music by supporting crap. I blame the movie audience for the state the movie industry is in. There hasn't been anything with seeing in at least 2 years. When people are talking up stuff like Rise of the Apes you know the movie biz is in bad shape.

I'm curious as to what this has to do with OhDaeSu's post? He's talking about people being jerks to other people over something petty, not the state of the movie industry.

I agree with your rant, OhDaeSu. I think a real film buff enjoys entertainment and weightier films. I feel if you only like one or the other, you're missing out on the whole spectrum of cinema. Everybody should enjoy at least one bad film. The most snobbish film fans tend to be really boring anyway... they're no fun to be around.

And that's why I have an amazing collection of the Asylum flicks on DVD. There's nothing like throwing on Allan Quatermain and the Temple of Skulls and having some drinks.

I think the reason people like his friends act the way they do is because of all the bad stuff we get nowadays. Assuming his friends are film buffs (Maybe I'm wrong there) they're probably tired of getting stuff like Bucky Larson all the time. The comedy genre is over saturated with Adam Sandler/Judd Apatow type comedy movies. And I think movie buffs are tired of it also and so they lash out at some people who like these types of action and comedy movies. Maybe it seems immature to some, but we like to have quality entertainment also. Maybe it's not right to attack people that like bad movies.... Maybe if we got more good stuff that wouldn't happen though.

Films at their very core are the filmmakers experessions and personalities so I have no fight to bring there but I do believe some films don't deserve any praise or mentioning at all and there's legitimate reasoning behind the such bashing, some works are true garbage, it's not just one opinion.

Since a member will ask, I will provide... Transformers 2 and 3.

I had no idea that was one of their titles, haha. I'm fond of Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus.

Yeah that is a classic Asylum flick. Some other greats:

Airline Disaster
Mega Piranha
Pirates of Treasure Island
Sherlock Holmes
Titanic 2
I Am Omega
Death Racers
Transmorphers
When a Killer Calls
Invasion of the Pod People
#1 Cheerleader Camp

And many other hilariously bad movies.

I will not bash another person for liking or disliking a movie. Ever. I would hope people would return the favor, but instead, insults and put downs always ensue.

I will debate, I will discuss, but when someone starts insulting, I am done. There is no point. This happens to me on IMDB all the time. It gets old quickly. I like your post OP.

The nice thing about movies is you can watch them alone! So fuck haters and watch whatever movie you want, and be proud about it . i LOVE Jennifer's Body because it's so bad that it's brilliant and my friends make fun of me all the time. i just laugh
