Schmoes Choice for Game of the Year 2011

Mortal Kombat [PS3] & Batman: Arkham City [PS3] * T I E *

Again, I really didn't get that many games this year [Tomb Raider Trilogy] was the only other game I bought new in 2011. I'm on the fence about getting WWE 12 later this month. The only reason I would get it is because of the Randy Savage DLC that will be released later. So, I'm going to go ahead and cast my choice[s] for GotY. Both of these games were released by Warner Bros. and both games surpassed my expectations. Mortal Kombat is the perfect MK game. It had all of the necessary fighters, one hell of a story mode and pretty kick ass DLC fighters. Arkham City, while not the complete game that Arkham Asylum was [IMHO] is still an incredible game. An excellent story that had it's share of twists and turns as well as DLC Characters like Catwoman and Robin. Not to mention those insane Riddler trophies!!
Both games received a 9.0 [out of 10] from me.

So lock in your vote now or secure your spot and post back later as the year winds down.

I also thought it'd be cool to reflect our choices for GotY the past 6 years:

Arkham City would be mine. MK is up there, but Arkham edges it out.

So far Arkham City is my choice, but Assassin's Creed Revelations and Skyward Sword are still to be released.

Plus Skyrim JUST came out, so you know I'll have to get back to this list when I'm done play all 3 of these games

Admittedly, I don't play too many video games. Portal 2 was the best one I've played this year. I may start a one-man campaign for it.

Haven't played any games that were released in 2011 that would be worthy of this award since I rarely buy new video games.

Rift was a pretty good game that was fun for a month or two. It's only 5 bucks right now I think too, if anyone was looking for cheap entertainment. But it's hardly game of the year level.

I'm calling it right now though: GOTY 2012 > Diablo 3

I could see this if only cause of the aleady established fan base clamouring and the time it's taken to develop it had better be or else head will roll, lol.

I'm holding hope that Old Republic will be cream your jeans amazing fun but the fact that its an MMO will probably keep it from being good enough.

LittleBigPlanet 2 for me. Batman: Arkham City nipping at its heels.

Of course, I say this and haven't picked up Skyrim or Uncharted 3 yet, so my vote could change. Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, and Dark Souls are all pretty honorable mentions though. Fantastic year for games!

Gears of War 3 is the only new release I've played this year...so that.

inFamous 2, Portal 2, Gears of War 3, NBA 2K12, and Uncharted 3 are my honorable mentions.

Winner: Arkham City

I'm not touching Skyrim (which I suspect will win most GOY votes from "major" publications), and of course Skyward Sword hasn't come out yet (I'm a huge Zelda fan) but for now, it's Arkham City

Skyrim. It's not even close. Skyward Sword has a tiny chance of overtaking it, but I'm doubting it. Skyrim is just immensely impressive.

Skyrim is way ahead of the pack, and I've played or owned almost all of the new and big releases of the year...except Uncharted 3 (which is coming for Christmas)

I don't even know what would be close to it? Arkham City seems to be a front runner, but this game was disappointing to me. The story was all over the place, the side quests were really lame, and the side bosses, while cool, had no bearing to the progression at all. The Catwoman rescue was absolutely pointless, it was a reason to add her into the game. The only thing that was great was the gameplay, and graphics, but the gameplay basically was just recycled from Arkham Asylum.

Cant believe Deus Ex hasnt been mentioned more. When it first came out, they way everyone was talking about it I thought it had GOTY wrapped up.
